It’s no secret that San Antonio Spurs head coach Gregg Popovich is not a fan of President Donald Trump. And during a pre-game press conference today, he once again lit into the leader of the free world.
With Trump front and center in the news following his firing of FBI Director James Comey, Popovich explained that the president is directly impacting the mood of the country.
“Usually, things happen in the world and you go to work and you’ve got your family and you’ve got your friend and you do what you do,” he told reporters before Game One of the NBA Western Conference Finals. “But to this day I feel like there’s a cloud, a pall, over the whole country, in a paranoid surreal sort of way that’s got nothing to do with the Democrats losing the election.”
He continued, “It’s got to do with the way one individual conducts himself. It’s embarrassing. It’s dangerous to our institutions and what we all stand for and what we expect the country to be. But for this individual, he’s at a game show and everything that happens begins and ends with him, not our people or our country.”
Before wrapping up his comments, he added a few more descriptions of Trump’s actions.
“When he talks about those things, that’s just a ruse,” the 68-year-old coach exclaimed. “That’s disingenuous, cynical and fake.”
Right after Trump’s inauguration, Popovich slammed POTUS, claiming at that time that “you really can’t believe anything that comes out of his mouth.”
