Britney Spears’s blog had this to say: “This morning, Britney’s Twitter was hacked. We apologize for any offense the message from the hacker caused and are working with Twitter on remedying the situation as quickly as possible.”

For the time being, the hacked account is still up. It’s all the more damaging for being a verified account — and because Spears has almost four million followers. As of 9:47am, it’s still up, but it will likely go down within the next few hours.

Update #3, 10:11am: Thank heavens this trying ordeal seems to be over. And all without a single suspension of Britney’s account, it appears.
