cbsnews video

Since the announcement that terrorist leader Osama bin Laden was killed, there has been a general assumption that the raid would have been captured on video. Now, CBS News national security correspondent David Martin is reporting that, indeed, all of the 25 Navy SEALs who participated in the raid were equipped with helmet cameras that filmed the whole thing. Based partially on reporting from those tapes, CBS created an animated simulation of parts of the raid.

But my job is the same as it ever was, which is to make 9:00 P.M. as good as I can.”

CBS Officially Names Scott Pelley New CBS Evening News Anchor

Picture-131

In a move you’d be forgiven for thinking had already been made, CBS officially named 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley the new anchor of the CBS Evening News, replacing Katie Couric. “Scott has it all. He has the experience, the credibility and he is among the very best reporters ever to work at CBS News,” said CBS News chairman Jeff Fager. “In more than two decades at CBS News, he has distinguished himself at every level, right up to his current role at ’60 Minutes,’ where his work has been incomparable. We like to think of CBS News as the ‘reporter’s network’ and I can’t think of anybody in this business better suited for the anchor chair than Scott.”

Picture 5

There’s always a chance that the Katie Couric-is-leaving-the-evening-news story is wrong and the Donald Trump-is-running-for-president story is right, but The New York Times says we’ll finally get the answer on Couric this week, when CBS begins the process of dragging this thing out for at least two more weeks–first by confirming that Couric’s leaving, and then next week telling us that Scott Pelley‘s announcing someone as her replacement.

Report: CBS News Boss Rips Early Show For Dropping The Ball Monday

In an email obtained by the New York Post‘s Page Six, recently-appointed CBS News president David Rhodes slammed staffers at CBS’ Early Show for a “bad Monday morning” after a big weekend. “We broke major news,” the paper quotes Rhodes. “Let’s get with it. Go at it. We’ll have that debate. You’re not going to be able to do that by nickel-and-diming me in the budget. You think we’re stupid?”

What If A White Guy Didn’t Get Katie Couric’s Job? Here’s A Diverse Short List For CBS

cbs-news Gallery

If the rampant but rather bland buzz is to be believed, CBS News will tap 60 Minutes correspondent Scott Pelley as the next anchor of the CBS Evening News, replacing the soon-to-depart (and almost certainly daytime-bound) Katie Couric.

By all accounts, Pelley’s a great guy, well-liked at CBS News, and a fine choice to inherit the chair once owned by Walter Cronkite. Picking Pelley would reshuffle the evening news anchor deck, returning it to mostly white guys, with ABC’s Diane Sawyer the only exception. But what if CBS decided on a more diverse choice? Who’s out there? Is there anybody worth a look?

CBS News Exec Denies FBI ‘Informant’ Allegations: ‘Outrageous And Untrue’

Isham

CBS News Washington bureau chief Chris Isham says a report that he was an FBI informant is “outrageous and untrue.”

The original report–claiming a journalist at ABC News had cooperated with the FBI–led to a swirl of speculation in media circles. Isham concedes he may have been the person being discussed, but he was no “informant.” Isham worked as an investigative journalist at ABC, and he says he would contact the FBI in the course of stories to attempt to confirm facts.

Ask, and the internet swiftly provides: Earlier today, we told you about a declassified memo describing an unnamed ABC News journalist looked at by the FBI as a possible informant after he had revealed information about a (false) tip the network received concerning Saudi connections to the Oklahoma City bombing. ABC News claimed to be unsure of the journalist’s identity, but seemed confident that the person in question no longer worked at the network.

Turns out, that’s true: The journalist in question has now been identified, by multiple sources, as CBS News’ Washington bureau chief / vice president Christopher Isham.

Who Should Replace Katie Couric? Better Question: What Should Replace The CBS Evening News?

Picture 5

It seems fairly certain that very soon, CBS News will come to the end of the Katie Couric era. For many, that means an entertaining round of media speculation about who will inherit the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News.

Much of the speculation has focused on Scott Pelley, the CBS lifer who’s a correspondent at 60 Minutes. Pelley’s a nice guy, a good reporter and would surely do a fine job as an evening news anchor.

CBS News Poll: 50% Of Americans Back Obama’s Handling Of Libya

Picture 17 poll
