Neil Patrick Harris Promises Broadway Is ‘Not Just For Gays Anymore’ In Tony’s Opening Number

Host Neil Patrick Harris performs on stage during the 65th Annua video

Sometimes it seems like half the goal of the Tony’s every year is to trick “regular folks” into caring about the theater. And, when this year’s crop of shows included output from the South Park guys, Chris Rock, and Harry Potter, and the show itself was being broadcast on CBS (your parents’ network!), this year seemed like a perfect year to go for that mainstream audience. So, last night’s Tony’s opened with host Neil Patrick Harris delightfully pointing out the effete, blue state elephant in the room with a hilarious song (as good or better than some of the actual show tunes performed that night!) entitled, “It’s Not Just For Gays Anymore!”

Psychology Today Asks (Then Un-Asks) ‘Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?’

thejl

A column on the Psychology Today website earlier today caused a justified wave of Freud rage™ by asking “Why Are Black Women Less Physically Attractive Than Other Women?”

The post, which featured “research” of uncertain methodology by evolutionary psychologist Satoshi Kanazawa, drew immediate condemnation, and the magazine has since deleted the article. A reprint of the article is still up at Something Awful.

Chris Rock Roasts Oprah: “She’s So Rich, China Owes Her Money”

OBAMA/ Video

On the CBS broadcast of the 33rd annual Kennedy Center Honors, Oprah Winfrey was one of the honorees to receive recognition from fellow celebrities. Oprah pal John Travolta and Barbara Walters provided some harmless remarks, but luckily comedian Chris Rock arrived on the scene to offer some uncomfortably hilarious jabs at both the “most powerful person in the world” and the guy sitting next to her (Barack Obama).

Sex, Love & The Double Standard (and the Oscars)

Anne Hathaway

Earlier this week, I hosted an online panel examining gender stereotypes surrounding sex and the double-standard in relationships and the workplace, hooked on the release of the film Love & Other Drugs, in which Anne Hathaway and Jake Gyllenhaal play a couple who initially meet because they are both fans of casual sex. That begins [...]

Geraldo Confronts New Black Panther Chief About Glenn Beck ‘Restoring Honor’ Rally

geraldo

Fox News host Geraldo Rivera continued his network’s conspiracy-defying publicity tour for New Black Panther Party Chairman Malik Zulu Shabazz this weekend, confronting him with a clip from Mediaite’s interview with Shabazz in which he promises “direct opposition” to Glenn Beck‘s “Restoring Honor” rally. While I agree that Glenn Beck has the right to “access the Lincoln Memorial,” Rivera uses some dissonant logic to make that point.

Chris Rock: Democrats “Want To Win The Fight Without Taking A Punch”

Picture 3 video

Chris Rock is not exactly America’s top political pundit, but his fresh perspective on the left during his appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher yesterday he provided insights on topics the professionals often overlook. Democrats, he argued, have to develop some thick skin. Being Chris Rock, he followed that up with the claim that true racial equality would only be achieved when America has a “dumb black president.”

UPDATED

File this under “People Who Think They Are Helping Roman Polanski Really Aren’t”: At least one pro-Polanski online activist has blocked at least one Facebook user critical of Polanski from posting anything to do with Polanski to her Facebook page. Bi-zarre.
