I think this may be the media equivalent of “I’m going to take you out.” In response to last night’s confrontation between Carl Paladino and longtime New York Post politics writer Fred Dicker Post editor Col Allan is pushing back. Hard.

The media establishment in New York may frequently feel that the dismantling of their industry has reached what could be described as biblical proportions of the “dogs and cats living together” type. Be that as it may, it apparently is not yet bad enough for the New York Post and the New York Daily News to consider “printing together,” despite the fact such an arrangement would feasibly be to their mutual benefit.

Despite rumors of slumping newsstand, a persistent ad recession, and a nasty harassment allegation, the NY Post still delivers on what it does best: evidenced in the front page headline on today’s paper that concerns the failed attack of Flight 253. Update – It appears that Gawker Weekend Editor Foster Kamer made the same exact joke over the weekend!

A new lawsuit from a Latina former editor contends that the Post and its parent company News Corp “maintain, condone, tolerate, directly participate in and contribute to a hostile work environment,” including political bias, racial insensitivity, prejudiced hiring practices, rampant misogyny and corruption.

How did a lede like the one in Niall Ferguson’s column today make it past the Financial Times editors? The Financial Times is British paper and so arguably not quite as sensitive to the historical racial nerves Ferguson’s lede touches on. But still! Are we supposed to conclude that Barack Obama is lucky because he is black?
