Former Secretary of State Colin Powell has no faith in the Tea Party’s ability to produce a president. This he noted today in a discussion with Christiane Amanpour on This Week, where he lamented the “very tense” tone currently in Washington and attributed some of that to the obstinacy of the Tea Party.

Colin Powell was a guest on Piers Morgan Tonight Thursday and, among other things, was asked what he thought of the Occupy Wall Street movement. He seemed to brilliantly walk a line between the pro-and-anti-OWS stance, saying that he doesn’t, “begrudge anyone who has earned a good salary as part of our capitalist system,” but also expressing an understanding of the frustration many of the protesters are feeling.

Lawrence Wilkerson, Colin Powell’s former chief of staff, told MSNBC’s Cenk Uygur he feels Powell was deliberately misled leading up to the Iraq War, particularly by former vice president Dick Cheney‘s office.

Former Secretary of State Colin Powell appeared on CNN‘s State of the Union and told Candy Crowley that when searching for areas of the federal spending to cut, there is no reason why the military’s budget should not be looked at as we draw down from both Afghanistan and Iraq. On This Week this morning former Secretary of State Colin Powell told Jake Tapper that while it was clear President Obama had been overseeing the oil spill from the start, he had failed to convey that impression “and the comprehensive speech he gave the other day, I think he would have been better served and the nation would have been better served if he’d given it a few weeks earlier.”

The The Times in London is reporting that Colonel Lawrence Wilkerson, a former top aide to Colin Powell, has claimed that George W. Bush, Dick Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld were all aware that many prisoners in Guantanamo Bay were entirely innocent but left them there anyway. The accusations were made in a document that The Times has obtained.
