More important than the crime, however, was how stoked Keith Morrison was about all of this murdering! Dude was not shy about how much dead people excite him, even going so far as to bring a tub of popcorn into his interview with Wiig.

The highlight of the sketch was Buscemi and Hader sitting opposite each other in a prison interrogation room, making suggestive “oohs” and “yeahs” at each other while they recapped Buscemi’s crimes, and this sketch made good use of Hader and Wiig, two of the show’s MVPs. While I might be tempted to grouse about how Steve Buscemi was relegated to a lot of “creepy guy” roles in tonight’s episode, despite an opening monologue about how frustrating that type-casting has been for him, it suited him in this sketch.

NBC News doesn’t have a start date or a name for its new prime-time news show to be led by Nightly News Brian Williams, but it does have an executive producer, as of today. Rome Hartman, who helped create the BBC’s American flagship newscast, BBC World News America, has signed on with NBC in an announcement from the network today.

“We are tremendously excited to have Rome on board,” said Steve Capus, president of NBC News, who also announced that David Corvo, executive producer of NBC’s Dateline, will be elevated into a new role as senior executive producer of primetime news.

Hartman has been a critic of the broadcast and cable news networks, telling Mediaite last December last his mission at the BBC was to provide American viewers a window on the world, not just Washington, New York and Hollywood.

“Our real reason for living at BBC World News America is to bring to an American audience a smart, sophisticated view of events and issues in the world beyond U.S. shores,” Hartman said. “That’s frankly a view that TV viewers in the U.S. have a hard time finding anyplace else, because the cable nets are so relentlessly focused on domestic events and issues. We think that there has never been a time when it’s more important for Americans to understand the wider world, nor a time when it’s harder to do that based on the standard fare of Amercian networks.”

NBC has said the new show will be a showcase not just for Williams to do longer form interviews and stories, but as a platform for other NBC News talent, including someone like Meredith Vieira, whose departure from TODAY has left NBC looking for a way to keep her in the family. The new show is scheduled to debut in the fall.

Assange says a cable suggesting the U.S. would back the Tunisian military may have given the armed forces the encouragement they needed to break with the ruling “political elite.” As for the continuing battle over rape allegations in Sweden, Assange tells Dateline‘s Mark Davis he cut his hair and changed his look in the wake of the charges:

When you are in this business, people try to take any point they can to malign you and stop the power of your publication. That is the same reason why politicians dress so conservatively, when they are under constant attack. It is something that I have to do in order to keep the focus on our material and keep the focus off me.

Assange says he’s surprised at the intensity of the focus on himself–particularly a flood of unflattering portrayals like the book that describes Assange as a “disco king” who engages in power struggles with cats.

Certainly, the level of scrutiny, the level of attacks on my person is like nothing else I might have experienced – possibly with some exceptions, like nothing else, anyone else in Australia has experienced.

It is the latest change at Good Morning America since Diane Sawyer left to become World News anchor.

ABC’s Good Morning America weekend anchor Kate Snow is leaving the network and joining NBC. The news was first reported by TVNewser.

It is the latest change at Good Morning America since Diane Sawyer left to become World News anchor.

Snow joins the network as a correspondent for Dateline and will “contribute to the newsmagazine and other NBC News properties,” according to the release.

This is a great day for NBC News,” said President Steve Capus in the release. “Kate is a tremendously talented and respected journalist. This signifies our commitment to growing ‘Dateline’ as it continues its ratings success in primetime, and our belief in investing in the future talent of NBC News.

Since Sawyer’s exit, George Stephanopoulos came in to take her role, and news anchor Chris Cuomo left to take a job at 20/20 and become Chief Law and Justice Correspondent. His role was filled by Juju Chang – but Snow certainly seemed in contention for that. TVNewser <a href="http://www.twitter.com/tvnewser"target="_blank">tweeted Snow “had out in ABC contract after not getting weekday GMA gig,” and was promptly scooped up by NBC.

She’s a high profile broadcast news name whose current role is different than the morning show job it sounds like she was looking for. But the NBC News role allows her to expand into other areas – mainly on cable, with MSNBC.

Here’s the full NBC release:

Kate Snow will be joining NBC News as a correspondent for “Dateline.” Beginning later this spring she will contribute to the newsmagazine and other NBC News properties. The announcement was made today by NBC News President Steve Capus.

“This is a great day for NBC News,” said Capus. “Kate is a tremendously talented and respected journalist. This signifies our commitment to growing ‘Dateline’ as it continues its ratings success in primetime, and our belief in investing in the future talent of NBC News.”

“‘Dateline’ has enjoyed a great period of success and we are now even more fortunate to be welcoming Kate to our team,” said executive producer David Corvo. “She’s the whole package. She can cover breaking news, she can interview, she can write, and I’m happy she’ll be doing all that at ‘Dateline.’”

Previously, Snow was the anchor of the weekend edition of “Good Morning America” since the show launched in September 2004. Based at ABC News’ headquarters in New York, she also contributed to various ABC News broadcasts as a correspondent, frequently reporting for “Good Morning America,” “World News with Diane Sawyer” and “Nightline.”

A political junkie with a deep interest in world events, Snow covered a wide range of stories for ABC News. She was one of the first ABC News correspondents on the ground in Haiti after the devastating earthquake there and covered everything from search and rescue efforts to incredible stories of survival.

Over the years, Snow has reported on stories from the economy to immigration, medical advances to Oscar fashions, energy policy to Katrina evacuees. She has traveled to remote Africa, covered conflict in Lebanon and hiked the Badlands for “Good Morning America’s” “Seven Wonders” series. And Snow has conducted exclusive interviews with newsmakers from President Barack Obama to billionaire Richard Branson, from Senator Ted Kennedy to Beyonce and Bono.

Snow has covered several presidential elections in her career. In 2008, she covered the campaign of Hillary Clinton from start to finish. For some eighteen months, Snow did double duty as a weekend anchor and the lead correspondent on that campaign during the week. She also covered the Democratic convention in Denver and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin’s bid for the vice presidency. In the summer of 2008, Snow landed the first interview with former President Bill Clinton in the wake of his wife’s failed White House run. In 2004, she was the first network correspondent to travel with Sen. John Kerry during his campaign for the White House and she also covered President George W. Bush’s re-election campaign that year.

Snow joined ABC News in July 2003 as “Good Morning America’s” White House correspondent. In the summer of 2004 she moved to New York to launch the weekend broadcast.

Before joining ABC News, Snow was a correspondent with CNN. She covered the Sept. 11 attacks from the rooftop of a church near the U.S. Capitol, was the first television journalist on the scene of the anthrax attacks and spent weeks covering the 2000 recount in Florida. Prior to her Washington assignment, Snow was based in Atlanta with CNN Newsource. In that role, she covered the Kosovo conflict from Albania and Macedonia.

Snow began her news career as a reporter with KOAT-TV in Albuquerque, N.M., where she also anchored the station’s weekend morning show. She has also worked for National Public Radio and NBC Radio.

Snow was part of the ABC News coverage team to be recognized with the distinguished duPont Columbia University Award for her coverage of the death of Pope John Paul II in April 2005. She is also the recipient of a Cornell University Alumni Achievement Award.

Snow is a graduate of Cornell and holds a master’s degree in foreign service from Georgetown University. She serves on the national board of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America. Snow and her husband, Chris Bro, have two children.

Steve Capus, president of NBC News, has stepped in to put a stop to ALG’s slanderous allegations. Or to “protect what is indefensible with hysterical, frantic accusations,” if you ask Carter Clews, ALG’s director of communications.

Politico’s Michael Calderone has been keeping up with the back and forth.

“Somebody, on the other end, I’m assuming, took the return stamp from the email and then put in this hateful message,” Capus told Calderone. “I don’t know who did it. It’s outrageous to suspect that somebody from NBC News would do it.” Meanwhile, Clews said that “This email has left a digital footprint that is undeniable. We did our due diligence. We have confirmed that it indeed came from NBC’s server and Jane Stone’s email address.”

But the NBC camp has done its own due diligence. An NBC statement, via Politico:

Americans for Limited Government has chosen to launch an outrageous, reckless attack and smear campaign against an NBC News employee. Faced with irrefutable evidence that our employee did nothing more than ask to be removed from an email mailing list, the organization has maliciously published a fabricated email.

Our employee never sent any such email. She is completely innocent of the outrageous charges and is being used by an organization to make a self-serving point. This is a shameless, hateful and defaming act which should be roundly denounced.

The he said–she said can only go on so long. Both sides should trot out their evidence now that this has become public and Stone’s reputation is on the line. In the meantime, ALG has gotten some serious face time from a major news company. But will all the buzz turn into embarrassment once the case is closed on ‘Bite me Jew Boy’?
