The future of Pat Buchanan at MSNBC is hanging in the balance, after a controversial book in which the conservative commentator made statements that were considered discriminatory by several groups. Over the weekend, MSNBC President Phil Griffin said that Buchanan was not allowed on the air indefinitely after the release of his latest book, and has not decided whether to allow the commentator to return.

Nikki Finke is often referred to as the “most feared” or “most hated” woman in Hollywood, not only for exclusive gossip she publishes on her industry news site, Deadline.com, but also because, using come combination of wilyness and blac magic, she’s managed to accomplish that rarest of feats in today’s online age: make it through her career with only two photos of her available online, one from a college yearbook, and the other her fairly ubiquitous black and white headshot. It was once a big deal for primetime viewers to hear the word ‘shit’ on network television. It seems those times are no more: the Parents Television Council has released a report that finds that the past five years have seen a 69.3% increase in primetime profanity. The f-word, for instance, showed up 111 times during “family hour” in the fall 2010 season, while that same word only appeared 10 times in 2005. Damn.

This is sad, unfortunate timing. We’re all familiar with the phenomenon of a long-planned magazine cover suddenly becoming inappropriate. But what happens when it’s an entire movie advertising campaign that has to recalled due to unforeseen circumstances? Sadly, that’s what’s happened with the poster for Brittany Murphy’s film Deadline.
