Over the weekend, Reliable Sources host Howard Kurtz slammed MSNBC for allowing Rev. Al Sharpton to cover the Trayvon Martin story, while leading rallies and protests at the same time. Rev. Sharpton picked up an unlikely ally Tuesday night, as The Young Turks‘ Cenk Uygur, who has been sharply critical of The Rev in the past, came to his defense, saying “God bless Rev. Sharpton. He’s bringing to light an issue that needed that light, that needed that attention.”

For about a week and a half, the tragic story of Trayvon Martin‘s killing at the hands of self-styled neighborhood watchman George Zimmerman (who claims self defense) galvanized much of the nation in support of justice for the slain teenager and his killer. Then, President Obama made the dastardly choice to offer words of comfort to Trayvon’s family and millions of supporters, and suddenly, the right wing decided that the media was aiding Trayvon Martin in oppressing his killer from beyond the grave.

Luckily, all the latest right-wing guano has been aggregated in a one-stop shop by Human Events‘ John Hayward, so let’s clean the shelves.

Kimberly Guilfoyle and Leslie Marshall joined Sean Hannity last night for his hour-long special on the “hate speech” of the left, and Guilfoyle, perhaps even more so than Hannity, let President Obama have it for his affiliation with Bill Maher– namely, that the latter donated a million dollars to the former’s campaign. Accusing him for failing to “show respect as a man,” Guilfoyle railed that, as leader of the country, President Obama owed it to women to condemn that language.

Bernie Goldberg and Bill O’Reilly don’t think that Ed Schultz is much of a journalist. That is not exactly news, but for the fact that Goldberg used that line of attack to actually defend Schultz from claims that he is in violation of NBC journalist policy for having accepted $200,000 in speaking fees from unions. “I agree it’s wrong,” Goldberg told a somewhat outraged O’Reilly, “but it’s not a violation of MSNBC standards.”

Satan must be getting frostbite tonight, because MSNBC colleagues Ed Schultz and Martin Bashir found themselves agreeing with none other than, as Schultz phrased it, “right-wing hate merchant” Ann Coulter.

Never in the history of our nation has a hug been so controversial. Barney the Dinosaur would be ashamed, and so is Ed Schultz, who continued to hammer Sean Hannity for pushing the controversy that President Obama has ties to the late, controversial professor Derrick Bell. Professor Charles Ogletree, who had the tape Hannity played on his show, came on The Ed Show today to not only defend himself and Bell, but also accuse the president’s most ardent detractors of reaching too much to try and find something to go after him with.

A poll conducted this week in anticipation of today’s Alabama and Mississippi primaries found some data show that a shocking number of people in both states believed President Obama was a Muslim. This poll concerned Chris Matthews tonight significantly, since it seemed to him to feed Republican support for Mitt Romney despite him being Mormon. To Matthews, Romney was like an Indian (“or somewhere in the Third World”) computer scientist fixing your computer: “you don’t care who is fixing it, just fix the damn computer!”

The late Professor Derrick Bell, who was the first black tenured professor at Harvard Law School, has become collateral damage in a failed conservative attempt to discredit President Obama. Smeared by conservative websites, and figures like Sarah Palin, as “radical” and “racist,” and unable to speak in his own defense, Prof. Bell’s legacy now rests with those who knew him. On Monday night’s The Ed Show, the late professor’s widow Janet Dewart Bell responded to these attacks on her deceased husband.

With the Southern primaries coming up tomorrow in Alabama and Mississippi came the news from Public Policy Polling that a plurality of Republican voters there think President Obama is Muslim. This news greatly concerned Ed Schultz tonight, though in a larger national lens, and he asked guest Michael Eric Dyson whether the HBO film Game Change proved that Sarah Palin was the originator of much of the hate.

During his victory speech in Georgia last night, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told the crowd that President Obama, in his Tuesday press conference, “said, ‘You know, I’m really worried about higher gas prices because it will make it harder for me to get re-elected.’ I did not make this up.”

Within minutes, MSNBC’s Al Sharpton blasted Gingrich’s claim, calling it an “outright lie,” while co-host Rachel Maddow shared the panel’s comical reaction to Gingrich’s claim before playing a clip of what the President actually said at that press conference.

With advertisers and radio stations fleeing like deer from a forest fire, conservative radio giant Rush Limbaugh has tried, twice, to squirt out the flames by apologizing for his poor selection of the words “slut” and “prostitute” to describe Georgetown law student and activist Sandra Fluke. Unfortunately, as Ms. Fluke pointed out, Limbaugh’s sustained 3-day assault consisted of 53 separate attacks, and removing those two words doesn’t change that total. The Jed Report‘s Jed Lewison helpfully compiled them all into a single video.

Ed Schultz has unwittingly ended up in many tweets and headlines this week for being one of the more recent talk radio abusers of the word “slut,” and the comparisons to Rush Limbaugh seemed to finally get to him enough to make the distinction between the two clear: Schultz, he noted of himself, was unequivocal when he apologized, and unafraid to remind people today how big a mistake he made.

On Thursday, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz conducted an exclusive interview with Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, the woman whom Rush Limbaugh mocked on his radio show earlier that day. Limbaugh had asked Fluke — and her female classmates — to post videos of themselves having sex while on birth control to make it worth people’s money. Fluke, you may recall, was barred from testifying at the faith-based birth control hearing on Capitol Hill because she had been deemed “unqualified” by Rep. Darrell Issa.

On Thursday, President Obama derided Republican efforts to score political points over rising gasoline prices, casting his GOP rivals as gleeful at the prospect of the political advantage presented by the misfortune of American consumers. On Thursday night’s The Ed Show, host Ed Schultz and MSNBC contributor Richard Wolffe explained, to Republicans like $2-a-gallon promiser Newt Gingrich, exactly how global oil markets work, and how little domestic production can influence them.

On Friday afternoon’s The Five, Fox News Democrat Bob Beckel brought down the house by inventing an anatomically unfortunate nickname for individual postings on social media platform Twitter. In discussing the firing of his friend Pat Buchanan, Beckel referenced the Twitter-related suspension of CNN’s Roland Martin, saying “The black dude got suspended at CNN for saying something on a tweeter, Twitter, twats, twits…sorry.”

Former Pennsylvania Senator Rick Santorum is just the latest in a long line of Republican presidential hopefuls to surge past former Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney into the lead, and while every one of those other comers has withered for one reason or another, Santorum’s challenge is different. Setting aside his prospects in a general election, a review of Mitt Romney oppo memos against Santorum reveals a candidate with a hard shell to his right.

Ed Schultz began something of a feud with Sean Hannity, again, yesterday as the Fox News host had commented that he believed that Osama bin Laden would still be alive and kicking had President Obama “gotten his way.” Naturally, these comments incensed Schultz and led him to a discussion with Hannity over Twitter which resulted in Schultz challenging Hannity to produce any evidence that supported him.

Yesterday on The Five, Dana Perino made the bizarre claim that M.I.A. wasn’t American enough to perform in the Super Bowl Halftime Show unlike such American luminaries as, I guess, The Who, The Rolling Stones, and Madonna’s accent. Obviously, Perino’s allegation was borderline laughable and easy to make fun of (seriously, if I didn’t have to leave the office early yesterday, Frances never would have gotten a chance at this post), so you know what that means; set the timer for a rival cable network to mock it. And…take it away Ed Schultz!

After a week off due to a bout with bronchitis, Countdown host Keith Olbermann returned to the air Monday night, to the center of the Current TV universe, and to the black backdrop that seems a fitting stand-in for the star’s reportedly tumultuous relationship with his employer. According to a new report by Newsweek, that relationship may be hanging by a thread, and with it, the future of Current’s plan to become the left’s answer to Fox News.

In an interview with MSNBC’s Ed Schultz, Gasland director Josh Fox publicly responded to being forcibly ejected from a hydrofracking hearing in Congress Wednesday. “I didn’t expect to be arrested for documentary filmmaking and journalism on Capitol Hill,” Fox told Schultz. “I was prepared for it but didn’t expect it. I did think they would come to our senses and let them film the hearing. We were there covering a very crucial hearing about a case of groundwater contamination in Pavilion, Wyoming, 3 1/2 year investigation by the EPA shows subjects from the first film from Pavilion, with groundwater contamination resulting in 50 times the level of benzene in groundwater and EPA pointed in this case that hydraulic fracturing is the likely cause. What was happening today, Republicans called in the Science, Space and Technology Committee to a hearing to challenge science. Their panel was made up of gas industry lobbyists. We were there to expose what I believe is ugly and brazen attack on science itself, on what is happening across the country, with hydraulic fracturing. We were there doing our jobs.”

Ed Schultz opened his program tonight with a segment of Republicans behaving badly– from RNC Chair Reince Priebus to Arizona governor Jan Brewer to Rep. Allen West. Schultz and his guests, Melissa Harris-Perry and James Peterson, made the point that Priebus’s comparison of the President to the Captain of the sunken Costa Concordia, Brewer’s exchange with him in Arizona, and West’s demand that he leave America were all indicative of the same illness in Republican politics.

Ed Schultz and Eric Bolling have a pretty longstanding cable news rivalry of sorts, one that goes back and forth on issues from who is maybe drinking to grabbing drinks together to maybe not doing that, and policy disagreements, sometimes. The latest barb was thrown in Bolling’s direction, and for the last of those reasons, as Schultz blasted the Fox News host for disagreeing with President Obama’s use of Air Force 1.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi appeared on MSNBC’s The Ed Show Thursday night and clarified her statements about former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich. Ed Schultz asked Pelosi if she had a secret dossier on him as she seemingly suggested yesterday. “No, that’s not true. Let me tell you what is the truth. Everything I’ve said or will ever say about Newt Gingrich’s ethics is in the public record. I’ve said on and on, just read the public record.”

During Monday night’s The Ed Show, host Ed Schultz took on former House Speaker Newt Gingrich‘s penchant for “vilifying President Obama” with the “coded language” of racism. During the panel segment, Salon’s Joan Walsh summed Gingrich up in easily-deciphered fashion, telling Schultz that “Newt is the face of the politics of resentment and racism and angry white male rage” that led voters to vote against their own economic interests.

While many cable news viewers were focused on the Republican debate Thursday night, Ed Schultz took some time out to devote his “Psycho Talk” segment to Chris Christie‘s apparent sudden change of view on Iowa. And in introducing the clip of Christie, Schultz made sure to let viewers know exactly how he felt about Fox & Friends host Steve Doocy, with a fun mispronunciation of his last name.
