The broadcast ratings are in, and ABC News had the most watched coverage overall among networks.

NBC finished 2nd in total viewers, followed by CBS. But in the younger demographic, NBC finished 1st. Oh, and Fox News averaged more viewers than all the broadcast networks.

“People will advise me, sometimes, to be more judicious,” began Barney Frank before launching into an epic slam against the media, primarily the Boston Herald and Fox News, right in the middle of his acceptance speech. Frank said that sometimes you have to “bite your tongue,” but his tongue remained firmly unbitten. The speech was about as Barney Frank as Barney Frank can get and, therefore, you can probably guess as to how your mileage will vary.

Following Rep. John Boehner‘s weepy speech last night MSNBC’s inimitable election panel spent some time hashing over what the tears meant. Rachel Maddow felt that Boehner’s tears fit right in with certain cable news hosts.

After a busy night for Chris Matthews and the rest of MSNBC’s hosting team on Election Night, it was Morning Joe that was the focus this morning.

The program was live, with a studio audience in the Saturday Night Live studio, and Matthews showed up too. He had a lot of fun bothering Joe Scarborough.

Most importantly, did NMA News, those delightful Taiwanese animators, give their take on the developments? When David Frum last appeared on The Colbert Report, right before the election that ended with Oprah crying instead of John Boehner, he predicted that the Republican party would have to move more to the center to survive. Last night, during his live election night show, Stephen Colbert asked him how he could possibly have been so wrong.

Harry Reid‘s surprising victory over Sharron Angle may turn out to be the one bright spot in an otherwise fairly dire night for the Dems. So really who can blame John Kerry for being jubulent and wanting to rub everyone’s face in it. And by everyone we really mean the media, which has been gleefully predicting an Angle win for weeks now.

In a big blow to the tea party, Senate Majority leader Harry Reid will defeat challenger Sharron Angle – and it looks like it could be by five or six points.

In a night of many GOP victories, the media, almost across the board, agreed it was a “huge win” for Democrats and “disastrous” for Republicans.

“You have not heard the last of Carl Paladino,” the surrealist New York Republican gubernatorial candidate growled to voters. He may have lost by upwards of 25% to Democrat Andrew Cuomo, but his concession speech sounded like anything but tonight as he brandished a traffic-cone-colored baseball bat and advised his opponent to bring the bat to Albany, or “run the risk” that someone would use it against him.

Rep. John Boehner was in Washington, D.C. as it appeared he would soon become leader of the majority of the House.

It was a joyous moment for him and those gathered, and his speech just before MidnightET was about bipartisanship. But it was also an emotional one for him, as he choked up several times.

Ever since Will.I.Am did his best Princess Leia impression on CNN, the cable news networks have basically done the Daily Show writers’ jobs for them with their over-reliance on ridiculous technology during election night coverage. Therefore, it was unsurprising that the show got a lot of mileage out of their own “high tech” equipment. After mocking some of the more bizarre uses of CG visuals from earlier in the evening, the show trumped them all with an amazing “Holo-Suit.” Sure, it was actually just John Oliver in a chromakey body suit but, really, is that any less illuminating than a member of the Black Eyed Peas?

Chris Matthews just had a action-packed interview with triumphant congresswoman Michelle Bachmann during which one brave soul brandished a sign making fun of Sarah Palin, and another who wandered through the second half of the interview with a big sign asking ‘How’s the tingle Chris?’ complete with the NBC peacock symbol.

We had an interesting, closer-than-expected race in South Carolina tonight. Sadly, we’re not referring to an Alvin Greene Senate stunner, but the state’s race for governor between Republican Nikki Haley and Democrat Vincent Sheheen did create more drama than expected. Both MSNBC and Fox, though, finally called the race for Haley with over three quarters of precincts reporting and approximately a five percentage point lead.

Chris Matthews interviewed victorious Rep. Michele Bachmann, and while this was going on a person behind Bachmann was holding a sign with an NBC logo and the words, “How’s the tingle, Chris?”

This opened the door for Matthews to address that tingle-like comment regarding then-Senator Barack Obama a couple years ago.

The media’s favorite candidate Christine O’Donnell bid conceded her Senate loss to Chris Coons tonight, telling her audience that actually they won….because Delaware politics will never be the same. Indeed. She also said that during her phone call to Coons she encouraged him to watch the 30 minute video she’d made. Also? Try the veal! (“We’ve got a lot of food, we’ve got the room all night.”)

Rand Paul used his victory speech to declare that the Tea Party was witnessing a tidal wave victory across the nation. He also presented a list of requests he was “respectfully” asking the Senate to deliberate on.

Rep. Alan Grayson, who had arguably one of the most offensive campaign ads this season “Taliban Dan”, has lost his re-election bid to Republican Daniel Webster, according to several outlets.

Bill O’Reilly confidently said Grayson would lose long before it was called – and predicted his next place of employment.

One of the few states in the country where women voters turned against a women candidate in significant numbers. Former WWE President Linda McMahon lost to AG Richard Blumenthal who managed to overcome the revelation that he had lied about his Vietnam record to win the Senate seat, or at least not offend the voters [...]

The networks are declaring Republican candidate Marco Rubio has won the U.S. Senate race in Florida. The Tea Party-backed candidate defeated both Democrat Kendrick Meek and Independent Charlie Crist, whom Rubio pushed out of the Republican Party in the state’s primary race. “This man is a rising star,” Brit Hume said on Fox News, confirming [...]

One of the key races today with regards to the 2012 election is the Ohio governor’s race. If Democratic Gov. Ted Strickland loses to Republican challenger (and former Fox host) John Kasich it will mean the GOP is in control of the districting board in the state. As we all know from recent presidential elections Ohio is a very, very important swing state.
