Eliot Spitzer: After Resigning From Office Weiner Should Take Time To Reflect

Dan video

Anthony Weiner has finally stepped down from the only career that he has had in several decades, leaving many to wonder what he will now do to fill his time and support his new family. Eliot Spitzer, who knows a thing or two about rebounding after a sex scandal, weighed in on the matter tonight, and along with Mediaite founder Dan Abrams, concluded that the scandal could not keep him away from the political scene forever.

On Fox, Kirsten Powers Suggests Next Job For Anthony Weiner: ‘A Show At CNN, Maybe?’

Picture 5 video

Kirsten Powers, a New York Postcolumnist and former flame of Rep. Anthony Weiner has a suggestion for the scandal-tarnished politico’s next job: “a show at CNN, maybe?” In an interview on Fox News, Powers argued Weiner’s “very good on television…he’s very smart” and then she delivered the backhand to Fox’s cable news rival: “CNN has shown they don’t have any problem with people who have had sex scandals have shows,” an obvious reference to CNN’s Eliot Spitzer.

Chris Matthews: It’s ‘Ludicrous’ That Eliot Spitzer Is On CNN Talking About Rep. Weiner

Chris Matthews Video

Chris Matthews interviewed two guests about the ongoing Anthony Weiner controversy, yet the most interesting moment by far came when Matthews couldn’t hide his bewilderment as to why Eliot Spitzer, an up-close veteran of political sex scandals, was on television talking about Weiner. And Matthews seemed comically offended that Weiner’s only future career path might similarly be a job in television.

Again? Jay Leno Tells Joke Suspiciously Similar To Red Eye‘s Greg Gutfeld’s

Picture 2 video

Looks like the Red Eye time machine was working overtime this week, as yet another Jay Leno joke from the future somehow ended up on the May 31st edition of the show. This time, Leno’s program made a joke about Anthony Weiner ending up hosting a CNN show a week after Greg Gutfeld did– and the resemblance after Leno seemed to have pulled a joke from Andy Levy two weeks ago certainly raises eyebrows.

Michael Bloomberg On Anthony Weiner: ‘Like Spitzer, He Had No Friends’

Picture 8

The New York Post‘s Cindy Adams quotes New York mayor Michael Bloomberg explaining why nobody’s come forward to defend–or even support–Rep. Anthony Weiner. “Like Spitzer, he had no friends,” Adams quotes Bloomberg, who hosted a “Made in New York” party at Gracie Mansion. Bloomberg said Weiner should’ve “owned up right away” to his history of sexting and using social media to flirt–and more–with young women.

Breitbart To Spitzer: Opie And Anthony Co-Host ‘Assure[d] Me There Are No Cameras’

Picture 4 video

It’s been another day of Andrew Breitbart having to explain how, through no fault of his own, another nail just pierced Rep. Anthony Weiner‘s political coffin, and after releasing a statement earlier today explaining how he lost control of the one photo of Rep. Weiner he promised not to release, he appeared alongside host Eliot Spitzer to detail how the radio shock jocks breached his trust to publish the photo.

Acting Mayor? Alec Baldwin Reportedly Mulling Mayoral Run After Weiner Scandal

alec-baldwin-for-president_523x346 video

In an exclusive report in The Daily, Richard Johnson reports 30 Rock star Alec Baldwin–long an activist in Democratic politics and someone who’s toyed with a run for office–is now seriously considering a run for mayor of New York, now that Rep. Anthony Weiner “appears to have sexted himself out of the 2013 race,” writes Johnson.

Dan Abrams Turns Table On Eliot Spitzer During CNN Interview On Rep. Weiner

Capture video

Rep. Anthony Weiner is neither the first nor last New York politician to be caught in the midst of a sex scandal, but he may be the first to have expressed so much indignation at the media for investigating what ended up being true. On tonight’s In the Arena, Mediaite founder Dan Abrams argued that Rep. Weiner truly lost the public not for his transgressions, but for not being forthright, and contrasted the scenario with the program’s host, Eliot Spitzer.

Spitzer On Weiner’s Press Conference: It’s Not A Proud Moment, ‘Believe Me, I Know’

Picture 3 Video

Former Governor of New York and current CNN host Eliot Spitzer couldn’t possibly avoid discussing the biggest headline of the day: Congressman Anthony Weiner’s confession in the “cringe-worthy saga.” Yet many familiar with Spitzer’s own fall from political grace were likely eager to see whether it would be awkward for Spitzer to cover a story that hit a bit close to home.

Rep. Weiner Gets A Freebie: Jon Stewart Reflects On How ‘Ripped’ His Friend Is

capture_20110606_230508 video

Talk about friends in high places: Rep. Anthony Weiner spent the day telling the media that he had lied to them and his constituents, and that he routinely sent racy pictures of himself to young women. While this is the sort of story that typically has the Daily Show writers licking their chops, tonight Jon Stewart went easy on his old friend, harping on how “ripped” his chest is instead of the fact that he called the police on journalists looking for answers.

Rachel Maddow Adds Rep. Weiner To Clinton-Inspired Sex Scandal Chart

Picture 3 video

With all the scandals to have hit American politics in the 21st century, it’s sometimes hard to keep all these disgraced politicians straight. Luckily, Rachel Maddow put all the data together on one handy chart– the Post Bill Clinton Modern American Political Sex Scandal Consequence-O-Meter, the X-axis representing potential legal problems and the Y-axis representing the creepiness factor of their behavior.

A Tale Of Two Shirtless Legislators: How Anthony Weiner Is Not Another Craigslist Congressman

dudes

So here we are again, America. It seems like yesterday we had just emerged from the latest political sex scandal, but it was really way back in February 2011 that “Craigslist Congressman” Chris Lee‘s career ended nearly before it began thanks to his decision to solicit sex from a stranger on the internet, but that scandal has already been eclipsed by Rep. Anthony Weiner‘s surprisingly cut chest. How the media and the public reacted to both can serve as a scale on which to evaluate the forgiveness each is willing to give a fallen public servant.

Howard Kurtz: CNN Leaving Spitzer Out Of Political Sex Scandal Story Is ‘Airbrushing History’

Picture 2 Video

A recent story on CNN reviewed various political sex scandals in history and strangely didn’t mention a former New York Governor who just so happens to host a nightly show on CNN. CNN’s own Howard Kurtz similarly noticed the “glaring omission” and didn’t hesitate to criticize his own network.

Eliot Spitzer’s CNN Debate On Strauss-Kahn Sex Scandal Surprisingly Not Awkward

Picture 1 video

Every time a political figure has a sex scandal, CNN is going to have to smoothly maneuver around the fact that they hired former New York governor Eliot Spitzer. If they don’t mention him (or he doesn’t discuss the news), the network will be accused of bias– and if they do, it reignites the desire to ridicule. It’s a rough spot for the network to be in, but, at least in the case of former IMF head Dominique Strauss-Kahn‘s assault allegations, they handled it as gracefully as they could: by making Spitzer put on his attorney hat.

Um, Forget Anybody? CNN Story On Political Sex Scandals Makes Significant Omission: Eliot Spitzer

Picture 11 video

Oops. In a story on political sex scandals that aired on CNN Newsroom Tuesday, Suzanne Malveaux made mention of a long list of high-profile sex scandals, from the currently unfolding Schwarzenegger-Shriver story all the way back to John F. Kennedy. The story made mention of John Edwards, Larry Craig, Bill Clinton and Newt Gingrich.

The story, which aired around 2:30 p.m. ET, included Jim McGreevey, the New Jersey governor forced from office amid a sex scandal, but somehow failed to find time for Eliot Spitzer, the New York governor forced from office amid a sex scandal. Spitzer, you might recall, currently works as the host of In the Arena, a political roundtable show airing on, yes, CNN. Coincidence?

Robert Gates Admits That Info Leaks Has SEAL Team 6 Fearing For The Safety Of Their Families

Gates video

Defense Secretary Robert Gates made a fairly startling admission while speaking at Marine Corp base Camp Lejeune in North Carolina yesterday. When asked about the how government was protecting the men who carried out the mission to kill Osama bin Laden, Gates admitted that there were deep concerns. Apparently, during that fateful Sunday night, everyone in the Situation Room agreed that no information about the mission should go public. Obviously, that plan went up in the air pretty quickly. Those leaks now have members of SEAL Team 6 concerned for their safety and, primarily, the safety of their family.

Fareed Zakaria: Yes, I’ve Met With President Obama To Discuss International Issues

zakaria video

Fareed Zakaria is a well respected journalist with a proven track record in both print and broadcast media. As Editor at Large for Time magazine, and on his CNN program Fareed Zakaria GPS, the Indian-American writer/personality has a specific focus on international news issues. So it may come as no surprise to some that he revealed to his CNN cohort Eliot Spitzer that he meets with President Obama to discuss many international issues.

‘Torture Memo’ Author John Yoo: Killing Osama Bin Laden Was A Mistake

Image1 video

In a fiery interview on CNN’s In the Arena, John Yoo, the Bush Administration deputy assistant attorney general who wrote the “torture memos” on enhanced interrogation, talked to Eliot Spitzer about his belief that Osama bin Laden should have been taken alive. “The best, most reliable information we can get is from interrogation and I’m worried that we have, this administration has closed off that flow of intelligence since President Obama took office,” said Yoo.

Yoo, who wrote an op-ed for The Wall Street Journal on the American raid in Pakistan, clashed with Spitzer on whether he had “second guessed” the president and the American forces who carried out the raid:

Journalists And Sarah Palin Reveal Who They Think Is Most Influential Journalist

Picture 12 Video

At the MSNBC afterparty for the White House Correspondents Dinner, a bunch of guests who walked by were asked who in their opinion was the most influential journalist? Given that many of those stopped were NBC employees, it’s no wonder that Brian Williams frequently topped the list. However, there were definitely some other unique and surprising suggestions.

Experts Tell Spitzer Ayman al-Zawahiri Will Take Over Al Qaeda Despite Being ‘A Terrible Manager’

al_qaeda_5.3.11 Video

In The Arena host Eliot Spitzer spoke with The Looming Towers: Al Qaeda and the Road to 9/11 author Lawrence Wright and with former CIA Islamabad station chief Robert Grenier about what the capture and death of Osama bin Laden means for al Qaeda.

Wright shared his thoughts, pointing to Ayman al-Zawahiri as a likely, if not terribly effective, leader.

Tuscaloosa Mayor Discusses Needing Help After Tornado: ‘This Is A Journey We Can’t Complete Alone’

tuscaloosa_4.28.11 Video

While Lawrence O’Donnell and Orly Taitz were entangled in their gruesome paso doble, and Rachel Maddow talked about talking about birthers while Ann Coulter talked about MSNBC talking about talking about birthers, a series of tornados violently ripped through the southern United States (and now there are tornado warning reaching as far north as New Jersey), causing over one hundred deaths and extensive damage. Alabama’s Tuscaloosa County was one of the hardest hit areas, and Tuscaloosa Mayor Walter Maddox took some time out to call In The Arena‘s Eliot Spitzer in order to talk about the challenges the area is facing in the aftermath of the storm.

Top Ten Interviewer Reactions From Donald Trump’s Outrageous TV Appearances

Meredith Gallery

Potential Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump has dominated the airwaves as of late, as he grants interviews to anyone with a camera for him to appear in front of or a telephone for him to call. Much like the four stages of grief, it seems like Trump’s various interviewers are each at various stages along the path of the “Four Stages of a Trump Interview.”

Donald Trump Phones In To Challenge Eliot Spitzer On Net Worth Speculation

Picture 4 video

While other potential presidential candidates are doing their best to ingratiate themselves with the general American public, Donald Trump has adopted the bizarre and profoundly entertaining strategy of calling up his detractors in the media individually and making them explain themselves. Yesterday’s victim was Eliot Spitzer, who had mocked Trump’s financial hyperbole, and was now presented with the task of doing so to Trump on national television.

Trump On Lying About Net Worth: ‘I’m No Different Than A Politician’

Picture 2 video

The Donald Trump 2012 pseudo-campaign is deeply rooted in two main points: “Barack Obama wasn’t born in America,” and “I’m really, really rich.” The first point has been loud and preposterous enough to take up most of the media’s time since Trump parachuted onto the political scene; tonight, Eliot Spitzer took a shot at his other campaign issue, finding millions of dollars in discrepancies between the size of Trump’s wallet and what’s actually in it.

Brent Bozell To Eliot Spitzer: ‘How Can You With A Straight Face Tell Me You Don’t Have A Bias’

Picture 8 Video

Brent Bozell, President of the conservative Media Research Center, appeared with Eliot Spitzer last night and argued that Spitzer, along with the rest of the “liberal media,” has displayed bias in favor of the Democrats throughout the entire budget battle. Spitzer was determined to defend himself against specific accusations from Bozell, yet Bozell was just as persistent in trying to get Spitzer to realize that he demonstrates a bias in favor of liberals.
