The adventures of Euna Lee and Laura Ling, the two CurrentTV journalists jailed in North Korea earlier this year already seems like another lifetime thanks to the current state of the news cycle. However, looks like readers will get an inside look into the experiences of the two women courtesy of Lee who has just signed a six-figure book deal with Broadway Books.

Media blitz tours are apparently all the rage for former Presidents. Or at least former Democratic Presidents. Maureen Dowd would no doubt point to Bill Clinton’s cable rounds last night, particularly his Daily Show spot, as some sort of competitive decision on his part to share in President Obama’s magical tour spotlight. That said the timing does seem a little strange. And it’s too bad, because Clinton had some interesting things to say.

Let’s not kid ourselves. For all the fuss that was made about former President Bill Clinton‘s trip to North Korea being a private one, whose sole intention was to rescue journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, it has certainly provided the U.S. government with a lot of information that, up until now, was nearly impossible to come by.

Now that Current TV journos Laura Ling and Euna Lee are back safe and sound courtesy of President Clinton, details about their trip are beginning to emerge. Speaking to CNN yesterday Laura’s sister Lisa Ling, former co-host of The View and frequent Oprah guest, revealed that the pair had indeed crossed into North Korea. Still there remains more questions than answers.

We know former Pres. Bill Clinton went to North Korea to help secure the return of Laura Ling and Euna Lee.

But the next question becomes: what did the U.S. give up, and did Clinton talk about nuclear weapons as well? During today’s White House briefing, press secretary Robert Gibbs addressed these questions, and indicated Clinton may have talked nukes.

Arguably the best part of today’s press conference with just-landed Laura Ling and Euna Lee is when Ling recounted being told they were being taken to a impromptu meeting, and then walking into a room and seeing Bill Clinton. Wow, right? It’s like every Christmas you’ve ever had rolled into one! That said, was it a big mistake?

Before Current TV reporters Laura Ling and Euna Lee had even returned home to America following former President Clinton’s trip to North Korea to secure their release from prison, the news was already making light of the episode with sexy jokes about President Clinton’s notorious appetite.

All three broadcast networks stayed live past 9amET to catch the reunion of journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee with their families and their first comments on the matter. The cablers covered the emotional few minutes as well.

After reuniting with their families, as well as Current TV founder and former VP Al Gore and others, former Pres. Bill Clinton came down from the plane to an embrace from his VP.

This is great news. The New York Times is reporting that North Korea has agreed to free Current TV journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee, and that the two will return to the U.S. with Bill Clinton this evening. AP Reports that former President Bill Clinton is currently en route to North Korea to negotiate the release of jailed American journalists Laura Ling and Euna Lee who were sentenced in June to 12 years of hard labor for entering the country illegally and engaging in “hostile acts.” No official comment has thus far come from the office of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, nor the U.S. State department.
