Was there another f-word on The Five today? If so, it wouldn’t be terribly surprising. When you’ve got a live show where the debates sometimes get contentious, this stuff happens. No, we’re just amused it wasn’t Bob Beckel this time. In fact, just a couple minutes after Beckel made a joke about not being able to say a word he wanted, it was Eric Bolling who let one slip

It seemed like kind of a sleepy news day today. So sleepy that Bob Beckel spent the entire last segment on Fox News’ The Five playing video poker on his cell phone. Even when the show was covering a story about a Department of Homeland Security video that featured all white actors playing the terrorists (a perfect Fox News story if I ever heard one), only guest host Monica Crowley seemed to have the energy to muster up the expected outrage. However, there may have been one notable part of that segment as Beckel seems to have accidentally dropped the F-bomb.

Well, this one won’t make the new owners happy. On MSNBC’s Last Word tonight, a story about the career of Dog Day Afternoon director Sidney Lumet included a clip from his final film, Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead. That film’s considered a masterpiece, but it’s also a film filled with graphic sex, violence and language–and one that would obviously need a bit of editing before airing some of it on a news channel like MSNBC. Or, perhaps not? In a tribute package that included classic clips like Al Pacino shouting “Attica! Attica!” and Peter Finch‘s “mad as hell” speech from Network, comes the last clip–Philip Seymour Hoffman in Devil, shouting “it’s not fair, it’s not f—ing fair,” only without the dashes.

Who among us hasn’t launched into a possibly airport Chili’s El Niño® Margarita-fueled tirade aboard an airplane, launching into rants about how the [fiddlesticking] [fudge]holes at, say, Continental Airlines are so unbelievably incompetent? Such is the situation TV producer and children’s book author Robert Sayegh found himself in on a recent flight to [fudging] Newark. This afternoon, Fox News’ Shepard Smith sat down with Sayegh to try and figure out just what the [fricassee] happened.

Ah, the ever-amusing f-bomb drop on live television. Why do we enjoy it so? Well, here’s another one for you. It comes to us from Roanoke, Virginia’s WDBJ-TV, where Wednesday’s noon news took an unintentionally funny turn. Anchor Holly Pietrzak was attempting to say “teens are having luck,” and you can probably see where this is headed. The “l” in luck somehow became an “f” and a viral video was born.

Finally! The MTV Movie Awards got exciting! Reese Witherspoon was being honored with an MTV Generation Award, and Patrick Dempsey gave a lovely speech praising her body of work, including their roles opposite one another in “Sweet Home Alabama.” Then came Robert Pattinson. He noted that they worked together on his first film, “Vanity Fair,” playing mother and son, but his part ended up being cut from the final version of the film.

How very presidential! During a speech last night at a Las Vegas casino, Reality TV star (and world class fame whore) Donald Trump gave a fiery speech in which he complained about Barack Obama by unleashing a “tirade of profanity” according to an AP report. Perhaps more offensive than Trump’s use of the f-bomb is his suggestion that the price of oil could be simply managed by having someone in Washington tell Saudi Arabia “you aren’t going to raise that f*cking price anymore!” It’s that easy!`

“You can practically feel the excitement!” says the correspondent from Seattle’s King 5 News as she does her report on the crazy shopping spree at a local thrift store. A few seconds later, you can hear the excitement as well. When asked what he’s purchasing, a man carrying what looks like a very healthy amount of clothing can’t contain himself and blurts out the best response to a local news question since a dude realized he had no Quran.

Praise be to Shepard Smith! Amidst the tragic collapse of Lindsay Lohan, a lot have wondered where exactly her parents have been. Today, Lindsay’s estranged father Michael Lohan showed up on Studio B and received what can only be called a harsh interrogation by host Shepard Smith. Under the heat of a live television appearance (and the appropriately judgmental mien of Smith) Lohan lost his cool, dropping the F-bomb on live TV.

By now nearly everyone has heard Vice President Joe Biden‘s “this is a big f-ing deal” comment to President Obama that was picked up by hot mics during the ceremonial signing of the recently passed health care bill. But it took clever comedic minds at Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to present that wonderful gaffe in the proper context: via the classic Schoolhouse Rock short “I’m Just A Bill.”

There’s nothing more that the 24-hour news cycle loves more than a good F-bomb on live television. Combine that with Joe Biden‘s history of goof-ups and public misspeaks, and you have created the perfect storm for yesterday’s historic health bill signing, where our vice president whispered to Barack Obama while still wearing his mic, “This is a big f*cking deal.” And here’s everyone on TV talking about it, with the word bleeped out, care of Newsweek.com.

Fox News was first to report that Vice President Joe Biden may have dropped an F-bomb during the signing of the Health Care bill in the White House today, and to be honest, we missed it. But upon closer inspection, yes, he did. After giving a short warm-up speech in advance of President Obama‘s speech, Biden turned to embrace the President and said “this is a big f*cking deal!” Update: Robert Gibbs responds on Twitter.

Does saying the F-word on live TV even matter anymore? Maybe not if you’re Kathy Griffin and expected to say outrageous things that will make Anderson Cooper look adorably abashed on CNN’s live New Year’s Eve special — because they both ignored it so smoothly. F-word? Live TV? Yawn. Happy New Year, everybody!
