Facebook Cites Gingrich As Social Media ‘Savvy’ Politician
Facebook on Monday published a note pointing to Newt Gingrich as an example of the one of the most “Facebook savvy” politicians on the social network. “Gingrich’s Facebook page is a great example of providing many ways for supporters to get involved, catering to every level of engagement while equally promoting all of the tabs,” [...]

FoxNews.com Not Too Thrilled About Its Exclusion From Facebook’s ‘Most Shared Articles’ List
Yesterday, a post on FoxNews.com asked whether Facebook is “acting unsocially” by not including major news outlets (like Fox News, as well as MSNBC) in its list of “The Most Shared Articles of 2011.”
Travel Back To 2009 And Allow Rick Perry To Teach You How To Use Twitter
Howdy! Now, Herman Cain‘s campaign may be behind the political ad everyone’s talking about at the moment, but the cutest ad (you guys, it’s seriously cute, just you wait) comes courtesy of Rick Perry, from way back in 2009.
Caption This: George Stephanopoulos Shares A Smooch With Boo
You guys already know about a few things I really dislike, namely sharks and the ocean and the comedic stylings of one George Lopez. But, know what I love? Dogs. I love dogs so much. And I’ve always just really liked George Stephanopoulos. He seems like a nice guy who also happens to look a [...]
Report: Republican Congressmen More Likely To Tweet Than Democrats
A new survey completed by The Pew Internet and American Life Project finds an increasing number of Congressmen actively using social media, as the times call for them to do. According to the survey, three-quarters of Americans age 18 to 29 use social media, one-third of which go online to connect with government officials on Facebook (where 83 percent of Congress can be “liked”) or Twitter (used by 83 percent of Congress).

UK Goverment Abandons Plan To Censor Social Media During Civil Disturbances
Remember those riots in England that we were all fixated on for a few days before our attention turned to other stuff? Well, you may have heard that Parliament was actually considering temporary blocks on social media sites during times of violent unrest.
Mark Zuckerberg Really Does ‘Like’ Steve Jobs
This is cute: Facebook’s Mark Zuckerberg has paid tribute to Steve Jobs as he knows best how to by ‘Like’-ing him on Facebook, of course. Because these days, the sound of a hero’s praise is something akin to the sound of a million ‘Likes’ being clicked. Zuck’s profile will from here on out forever salute Jobs — alongside “Brogramming” and “Lotus Thai Bistro” – as one of his very most ‘Like’-ed things.
Pro-Social Media: London Riot Cleanup Gets Organized By Twitter
As quickly as some of London’s neighborhoods collapsed into chaos, cleanup brigades have sprung to life–thousands of them being guided into action via Twitter and Facebook. “The footage last night of high streets and independent shops burning was terrifying to watch and I wanted to find a way to help that was quick, simple and practical,” Dan Thompson, an artist, told the BBC. Thompson created a Twitter campaign, @riotcleanup, that’s already amassed 70,000 followers and has inspired a host of similar efforts in other cities:
Creepy Video Claims Hactivist Group ‘Anonymous’ Intends To Target Facebook
The “hacktivist” group Anonymous appeared to have struck again when a video released this morning claimed they are planning to take down Facebook in November. Coming off of a busy summer than included hacks on Sony’s Playstation network and the Syrian Ministry of Defense, it seemed that Anonymous had set their sites on a new, larger network. However, this was not quite the case.
Meet The Press To Host Republican ‘Facebook Debate’ In New Hampshire
NBC’s Meet the Press will host a “Facebook debate” ahead of the New Hampshire primary, host David Gregory announced in a web video (suitable for sharing on Facebook) posted today. Gregory described it as a “one of a kind experience” that starts “right now” with an ongoing political discussion of the 2012 campaign on the MTP Facebook page and leading up to the debate, to happen the Sunday before the primary. The debate will happen, Gregory says, “not just on air, but within your social network.”
48 Hours‘ Erin Moriarty Joins Viewers, Victims’ Families In Facebook Conversation In Effort To Find Killer
CBS News correspondent Erin Moriarty‘s halfway through a long day. Up early for an appearance on CBS’ Early Show, she may not wrap her day until well after tonight’s 48 Hours Mystery, which airs at 10 p.m. ET. Sure, the show’s on tape, but Moriarty isn’t, and she’ll be watching–and chatting–right along with viewers. “48 Hours is pretty idea for social networking,” Moriarty told Mediaite. “I like the connection with viewers.” And tonight, via Facebook, she’ll lead a live discussion of the show along with family members of victims of the Long Island serial killer who’s the subject of tonight’s report. The goal is two-fold: not only to create a deeper connection between the show and its viewers, but also, perhaps, to harness the audience in the hopes of finding a clue that will lead to the killer who investigators fear will strike again. “A serial killer, by nature, they continue killing. And that’s the concern. That’s why there’s pressure on the police department to solve this case,” said Suffolk County (New York) Police commissioner Richard Dormer.

TODAY’s half a million fans outnumber those of other breakfast shows–twice the [...]
Benjamin Netanyahu’s Son Complains On Facebook: ‘Terror Has A Religion And It Is Islam’
Yair Netanyahu, the 19-year-old son of Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu, is typical of many in his generation: He uses Facebook as a means of broadcasting his thoughts, emotional state and political beliefs. This becomes a problem, of course, when your father is at the helm of a nation currently embroiled in a raging, ongoing debate over land and religion and you say things like, say, Muslims “celebrate hate and death” or that “terror has a religion and it is Islam.” Did we mention Yair is also enlisted in the Israeli military’s media liaison unit?
Sarah Palin To ‘Good Ol’ Media:’ My Bus Tour Isn’t Canceled – I Have Jury Duty.
In a Facebook post titled “*Sigh* Reports of Tour Demise Are Greatly Exaggerated,” Sarah Palin shares that “even former governors get called up for jury duty” every so often and that, once again, the silly old lamestream media has gotten it wrong where the future of her bus tour is concerned.
Lawrence O’Donnell Mocks Media For Believing Sarah Palin Bus Tour Isn’t Over
Sarah Palin‘s “One Nation” Bus Tour, previously partially overshadowed by Anthony Weiner, surfaced once again today as news came of the Fox News personality returning to Alaska mid-tour (she has since denied this means an end to the tour). But not everyone in the media believes her– Lawrence O’Donnell, for one, has declared the tour dead, and laughed tonight at the idea that she will hit the road once more.
This Exists: Gunman Breaks From Police Standoff To Update Facebook Page With Picture Of Hostage
If you needed further evidence that this is truly the social media generation, then consider the story of Jason Valdez, a Utah man who feels compelled to update his Facebook page so frequently that no event in his life should ever take priority. Even when he takes a girl hostage and engages in a 16-hour overnight standoff with police, his Facebook friends should not, and will not, be deprived of status updates letting everyone know what he’s up to.
Choosing The 2012 GOP Candidate Based Purely On Facebook Pictures
Before we know it, the 2012 election will be upon us. Unfortunately though, the field of GOP candidates has yet to narrow itself down. With so many hopefuls in the running, how is one supposed to learn anything personal about who these great men and women really are? I mean, there are only so many [...]

Tracy Morgan Returns To Nashville To Continue His Apologypalooza
Tracy Morgan has returned to Nashville to apologize not only to Kevin, the man who posted the original Facebook note and brought mass media attention to Morgan’s rant, but also to other audience members (despite reports that not everyone in attendance that night reacted to his statements with contempt or offense), his friends, his family, and “everyone is every community” whom he may have offended.
CNN’s Amber Lyon Talks To Mediaite About Being Detained In Bahrain And The Digital Roots Of The Arab Spring
Much has been made of the role of social media in the revolution that has swept through North Africa and the Middle East–dubbed the “Facebook Revolution.” CNN’s Amber Lyon, in a documentary set to air Sunday night, reports that while Facebook, Twitter and YouTube certainly rose to political prominence this Spring, the roots run far deeper, tracking activists’ use of social media like Twitter, YouTube and Facebook back several years. The result is a dramatic power shift that has toppled dictators like Ben Ali and Hosni Mubarak with surprising speed. It’s simply a lot harder for a dictatorship to keep things quiet and controlled when state run media’s not the only media. As one activist told Lyon, when his home was raided and father taken away, “I put it on Facebook.”
CNN’s DC Bureau Chief: Twitter, Facebook Will Be Key In Tonight’s GOP Debate
CNN Washington Bureau Chief Sam Feist says the 2012 presidential election is the first where “social media has come into its own,” with Twitter and Facebook having the power not just to collapse a politician’s career, but to accelerate a candidate’s appeal in key states. The first GOP debate, tonight in New Hampshire, and Feist says social media will be part of the event, with huge screens in the debate hall displaying viewer’s tweets and Facebook comments–from suggested questions to observations on who’s answering (and who’s not) the questions. Some of that viewer feedback will be sent to moderator John King for inclusion into the live debate.
Andrew Breitbart: Obama And Clinton Told Rep. Weiner To ‘Get The Hell Out Of Here’
The Rep. Anthony Weiner sexting story refuses to stop escalating to higher levels of impropriety with each passing day, and with the news last night that the Congressman had been speaking to a 17-year-old girl surfacing, calls for him to resign are at a fever pitch. On this morning’s Fox & Friends, Andrew Breitbart confirmed there was one underaged girl with which he spoke, and even before that news broke, the heads of the Democratic Party were calling for Rep. Weiner to resign.
