Skewed urban cityscape, out—slick nested “C”s, in. Comedy Central just announced that it’s replacing its old logo with the new one at left, starting January 1. The shift is the cable network’s first major revamp in 10 years, according to Alex Weprin at FishbowlNY.

Dan Abrams Named New York’s Most Influential Mediaite By FishbowlNY

Well, this is a surprise! Dan Abrams, who just so happens to be Mediaite’s founder, won FishbowlNY‘s “most influential media person of 2009″ poll. Abrams came in at 34% of the vote, followed by Rupert Murdoch at 21% and Arianna Huffington at 15%. Simple arithmetic would seem to indicate that that means that he is just slightly less influential than Rupert Murdoch and Arianna Huffington combined. Maybe next year …

Bloomberg Axe Falls At Business Week, Jon Fine Out

Bloomberg, which acquired Business Week last month, announced this week that they were looking to layoff 100 positions or 25% of its staff. Judging from Twitter it looks like the layoffs took place today (h/t FishbowlNY).

Magazines Fall in Love with iPhone Apps, Hang on For Dear Life

A friend waits in a doctor’s office and notices that everyone around him is tap-tap-tapping away at their iPhone and completely ignoring the table full of magazines. This scene is a nightmare for magazine editors who are ever-worried about remaining relevant and somehow carving out a digital presence for themselves online and increasingly in our pockets. But unfortunately for them iPhone apps do not relevance (nor money!) make. At least not yet.

Is the Print to Blame for Chris Anderson’s ‘Plagiarism’?

There’s been lot’s of nicely ironic, hullabaloo these last few days regarding Chris Anderson being cited for plagiarism in his new book Free: The Future of a Radical Price. The trickiness of using Wikipedia as a source was given as one of the reasons the attributions had been left out. Anderson said he publishers were “uncomfortable with the changing nature of Wikipedia,” and wanted him to note the date he had viewed the page, which Anderson felt was “clumsy and archaic.” In actuality this entire episode feels “clumsy and archaic”, much like the medium of the printed word!
