kirsten-powers-flipflop video

Brit Hume: Gay Marriage ‘A Net Minus’ For Obama, ‘Just Another Politician Doing What Politicians Do’

hume video

Brit Hume attacked the conventional wisdom on President Obama’s gay marriage announcement this week on Fox News Sunday. Hume said that the nakedly political rollout of Obama’s position on gay marriage was an attempt to merely excite the base and curry favor with a segment of the Democratic electorate, but by avoiding policy proscriptions that advance what has come to be seen as a civil rights issue, he looks to be avoiding the tough decisions. “Far from being a kind of post-partisan leader and all the rest of it, that he turns out to be just another politician doing what politicians do,” said Hume. “And I think that’s harmful to him.”

Not So Fast, Orphans: Mitt Romney Doesn’t Support Gay Adoption

gayadoption video

On the heels of his anti-gay marriage, anti-civil union double-down on Evolution Day, presumptive Republican presidential nominee Mitt Romney was at least getting credit for supporting gay adoption. Thankfully, he cleared that noise up today in an interview with Charlotte, NC’s WBTV-CLT (The Clt!). Confronted with his statement that gay adoption was “fine,” Romney said he was simply acknowledging the fact that gay adoption is legal in almost every state.

Sen. Rand Paul: ‘I Didn’t Think [Obama's] Views On Marriage Could Get Any Gayer’

Rand-316x2551 video

Senator Rand Paul spoke this weekend at the Faith and Freedom Coalition meeting in Iowa, and in the middle of his speech he got around to President Obama making news this week on gay marriage. Despite Paul’s libertarian views, he does not support gay marriage, but he does favor letting the states decide (which is essentially Obama’s position too). Paul noted Obama’s explanation that his views on the issue have been evolving for some time, and remarked, “Call me cynical, but I wasn’t sure his views on marriage could get any gayer.”

Red Eye Marvels At Crazy Anti-Gay Lady’s Rant: ‘The Most Coherent Nonsense Ever’

Redeye video

There has been all sorts of substantive news about gay marriage this week, it’s easy to forget the small moments. I’m referring, of course, to the Nebraska woman who gave her remarkably unique reasoning for why gay people should not be allowed to get married. To say she went off the rails would be kind. More accurately, she went off the rails and down into a bottomless pit of confused bigotry. Thankfully, the guys over at Red Eye picked up this moment and decided to have some fun with it.

Ann Coulter: Obama Will ‘Screw [Democrats] Six Ways From Sunday’ To Win Reelection

1645269579_AnnCoulter210_xlarge-316x245 audio

Ann Coulter sat down with Sean Hannity on his radio show Thursday to talk about President Obama finally coming out in support of gay marriage. Coulter didn’t spend too much time going after Obama for his position, instead going after him for putting his own reelection chances ahead of members of his own party. Several Democratic legislators in contentious elections are backing away from Obama’s endorsement of gay marriage so they stay in office. Coulter said that the president’s thought process on this was just to “screw them six ways to Sunday” and keep the focus on his own reelection.

Top Republican Pollster Advises Party To Embrace Gay Marriage

gaygop838

A memo sent out by a Republican pollster has been making the rounds online for its conclusion that the party needs to embrace gay marriage as part of its platform because of recent trends showing increased support for this important social issue. Jan van Lohuizen, who worked as a pollster for George W. Bush in 2004, made the case that the GOP should be fighting for gay marriage as a conservative issue, by emphasizing that “freedom means freedom for everyone.”

NC-Gov-Perdue-wont-seek-re-election-HAT91U7-x-large-316x232

One prominent North Carolina politician has been making her opposition to Amendment One, the proposal that passed this week to end recognition of all civil unions in the state beyond an already-existing ban on gay marriage, known. Governor Beverly Perdue remarked that the vote was disappointing coming from a “progressive forward thinking economically driven state” and added that by having a population that overwhelmingly supports such measures, “we look like Mississippi.”

Maher: If Biden’s Gaffe Forced Obama’s Hand On Gay Marriage, ‘Biden Must Make More Gaffes’

Newrule-316x239 video

One cannot help but marvel at how the Obama administration’s hand was forced on the gay marriage issue after a “gaffe” from Vice President Joe Biden on Meet the Press this week. Bill Maher pointed out the interesting turn of events in his final New Rule of the night…

Video Features Mitt Romney Making Case That Dead Straight Parent Is Better Than Live Gay One

romney video

One of the relatively “bright” spots to come out of this week’s discussion of gay marriage for Mitt Romney is that he has at least been getting credit for being “fine” with gay couples adopting children. However, a new video out from progressive SuperPAC American Bridge casts some doubt on the depth of that conviction, featuring clips of Romney arguing against gay parenting, even as compared with one live and one dead straight parent.

Morning Joe: Timing Of Romney Bullying Story After Obama’s ‘Big Nothing’ Statement Is Curious

joe_paper Video

On Friday, Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough weighed in on the timing of this week’s big headline that presumptive GOP nominee Mitt Romney had held down a presumably gay fellow student and cut his hair. It it mere coincidence, he wondered, that this story has come out right on the heels of President Barack Obama‘s “big nothing” of an announcement that, while he personally supports gay marriage, he’ll leave it to individual states to decide for themselves whether they will allow it?

Dancing With The Devil: President Obama’s Gay Marriage Evolution And States’ Rights

obama1

One of the media flashpoints in the recent debate over marriage equality has been the persistent use of analogies to the Jim Crow and slavery eras of American history, particularly over the idea of leaving the issue to the states. President Obama‘s evolution-heard-’round-the-world contained a reference that seemed to endorse the idea of marriage equality as a states’ rights issue, but should gay marriage supporters be disturbed by it?

Or, you know, we’d be looking at Dora the Explorer for attorney general.

Now Alex Wagner video

On Thursday’s Now with Alex Wagner on MSNBC, New York Daily News columnist S.E. Cupp weighed in on President Barack Obama’s revelatory interview with ABC News in which he confirmed that he did support same-sex marriage rights. Cupp questioned whether the moment was politically driven, more by the need for donations from the gay rights community than by belief in the cause of gay marriage. Also, she said that gay and lesbian Americans should rethink just how much Obama did for them by opening up in this way. Cupp said, “If I’m in the gay rights community, am I really happy that this is a president who just said, ‘well, I’ve finally decided to like you guys. I’ve decided I accept you people.”
