CNN’s Kyra Phillips has done an on-air apology for having an ex-gay activist on her show without a countering expert, but said she was hurt by the “hateful messages” she received from viewers who were upset about the show.

HLN host and The View panelist Joy Behar and actress Cynthia Nixon received the top honors at the Gay an Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation Awards handed out March 13 in New York. Behar won the excellence in media honors and Nixon received the Vito Russo Award for advocacy by an openly lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender media person.

It was an irresistible story. A gay-hookup site called ManCrunch submitted an ad to CBS for inclusion during the Super Bowl. Is the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation too beholden to the networks it is supposed to be watchdogging? That’s the allegation made by gay activist and radio host Michelangelo Signorile who has accused GLAAD of having “a drug habit it just can’t shake” when it comes to criticizing the corporations that give it money.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation says ABC’s decision to put Adam Lambert into performance exile is not because of homophobia but because he won’t follow directions, giving cover to the network from critics who say the ban from the Jimmy Kimmel Live and ABC’s New Years Rockin’ Eve show is due to Lambert’s homoerotic antics at the American Music Awards.

What Makes Good Gay Journalism? And Why Is There So Little Of It?

On October 2nd, the New York Times published a piece called “The High Price of Being a Gay Couple,” (still #2 most e-mailed in the “Your Money” section). Unlike so many of the articles I read everyday about issues facing the gay community, this one established a way of looking at the topic that renders it serious, without having to explain, qualify, or prove it. Why aren’t there more pieces like this?
