It’s a rule of course in local news that when weather strikes, reporters must be sent out to endure it–and the more visibly they can suffer, the better. Hence reporters in rainstorms, blizzards and heatwaves. So WNYW-TV reporter Dick Brennan, being ever the good sport (I had the pleasure of working with Dick at Fox 5 back in the day), ventured out into steamy New York City to talk to folks braving the heat in Central Park. And that’s all pretty much by the numbers. Runners say remember to hydrate, Brennan rolls up his shirtsleeves, and then he makes a point of walking directly into a huge sprinkler, dousing himself from head to toe. Wait, what?

Usually, reporters and sprinklers only connect on live television by accident. But in this case, a possibly overheated and giddy Brennan soaked himself on purpose, leaving Good Day New York co-hosts Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly wondering if, you know, Dick’s okay out there. Adding to the strange liveshot is the appearance of a massive truck hauling Port-o-Lets that blocks the camera’s view entirely.

Anchors Rosanna Scotto and Greg Kelly chat a bit in amazement at the American Idol finale and at how Michaels’ performance did not betray his illness, when Kelly suddenly asks “was that a hoax? I wonder.” Scotto replied that it was “a hell of a hoax to pull off, pretending to die,” but Kelly insists, with a bit of humor in his voice, that “we think it’s a hoax.” This is either a sad statement as to what the publicity world has done to public trust, or a compliment to Michaels that he is such a good performer reporters don’t believe him when he goes to the hospital with a grave illness. The National Milk Producers Federation is arguing that the only milk worthy of the title is that from a cow– not goat’s milk, sheep’s milk, soy, rice, coconut, etc. The change would mean that companies selling any of the other types of milk would have to find a new name for their product. After having clearly given it some thought, Scotto calmly suggests the new name “soy jizzum.” This is especially comical because “jizzum” is, biologically speaking, the opposite of milk, and because seconds before Scotto noted that she was trying to avoid getting in trouble for her comments on geese.

Palermo, who’s known on the show as the entitled, under-qualified new hire at Elle, is apparently a sore subject for “working girl” Cutrone. When asked her opinion on Olivia this morning on Good Day New York, the 44-year-old hesitates at first, before taking a deep dig at the socialite by advising her to “leave your f**king attitude at the door.” The rant starts around the 0:35 mark. What’s equally entertaining is the quick attempted recovery made by Greg Kelly and Rosanna Scotto.
