Appearing on On The Record with Greta Van Susteren Tuesday night, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin strongly lambasted President Obama‘s plan to mandate religious employers to offer contraception coverage in their health insurance plans, calling it an “un-American act.” “Welcome to government-mandated health care!” Palin snarked. “Very poor politics they would choose such a battle. One, to pick a fight with faith-filled Americans. You know, we will fight as the Father had said earlier on the “Hannity” show, we’ll fight to the death for our freedom of religion and for the rights that are protected by our United States Constitution. This is an un-American act of our president. Anything that would violate an amendment within the United States Constitution is un-American.“

A few days ago on On the Record, newly minted Mitt Romney surrogate Donald Trump told host Greta Van Susteren that he could barely believe a loser like Rick Santorum was running for president, colorfully adding “give me a break!” to the fact that someone who lost his Senate seat so decisively thinks he can beat President Obama. Being a proactive sort, Santorum told Van Susteren last night that he reacted by picking up the phone and calling Trump directly, and asking for an explanation.

The day after Rick Santorum acquired his most impressive wins of the Republican primary so far, we finally got to see what it would mean for Mitt Romney to have Donald Trump as his surrogate. The Donald sat down with Greta Van Susteren to react to, among other things, Santorum’s three-for-three win last night in Colorado, Missouri, and Minnesota, and was profoundly unimpressed, repeating several times that Santorum lost his Senate seat “by a record number” and suggesting he pursue a career as a lawyer, instead.

Lawrence O’Donnell fiercely lambasted Donald Trump‘s endorsement of Mitt Romney on Thursday night’s edition of The Last Word. “Every single word that Donald Trump says publicly, every word, is designed to get attention to him so that he can pump up the ratings of his TV show,” O’Donnell jabbed. “…Because unlike Mitt Romney, Donald Trump still has to work for a living, and he so desperately needs the couple of million dollars that he makes on TV that he must spend his life promoting his show…

Kentucky senator Rand Paul is now speaking out about his experience yesterday with the TSA at a Tennessee airport. Early reports — kicking off with a Tweet from his communications director — said the Senator had been detained by TSA officials after setting off an alarm during his full-body scan. He was not permitted to re-enter the machine, but was asked to undergo a pat-down — something which Senator Paul has been very vocally against.

The Five is clearly Fox News’ golden child (they even got a damn New York Times profile!) and so, as the old veterans are out vacationing it up, the network is giving their favorite new superstars run of the place. Greg Gutfeld guested for Bill O’Reilly last night, Eric Bolling’s doing it tonight, Kimberly Guilfoyle is stepping in for Greta Van Susteren, and Andrea Tantaros sometimes does double duty on the radio. As they were all discussing their good fortune at the close of the show today, one lingering question remained; won’t somebody think of Bob Beckel?

On Thursday, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren chatted with Rep. Allen West (R-FL) about an “unidentified Republican congressman” who has said Speaker John Boehner may not be keeping his speakership for long. West said he doesn’t know who might have said that, adding that he feels a bit like Charlie Brown when Lucy swipes the football out from underneath him.

Donald Trump, everyone’s second favorite reality television star except for the young woman who defecated on Flavor Flav’s floor during Flavor of Love, called in to On The Record to let host Greta Van Susteren know that he’s the best, basically. Trump told Van Susteren that he believes a third party candidate could beat out a Republican candidate and make Barack Obama a one-term president.

Call it the leading edge of the Mitt-storm. Following a blistering “attack ad” that contained no actual attacks, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney unleashed the hounds this morning, releasing a web ad, called “With Friends Like Newt,” which attacks former House Speaker Newt Gingrich over his criticism of the Sacred Paul Ryan Budget™. Conveniently, Gingrich already responded to this ad in May, preemptively calling it “a falsehood.”

Romney’s ad is notable both for the sinister attack-ad boilerplate that he throws in, and the awkward things he leaves out.

Newt Gingrich has come out as one of the most vocal supporters of the proposed Newsmax debate moderated by Donald Trump, and one of the loudest pro-Trump voices generally among the Presidential candidates. As they have declined to participate en masse– first Jon Huntsman, then Rep. Ron Paul, then Mitt Romney– Gingrich addressed their decisions tonight, telling Greta Van Susteren that he didn’t “know why anyone would do that,” and suggesting it exposed a certain weakness in candidates to decline a debate.

The evolution of Karl Rove‘s feelings on the prospect of Donald Trump moderating a Republican debate while contemplating running for president himself has been a marvel to watch. On Saturday morning, he was confused that anyone would take it seriously. This morning, he was insulted. Tonight on On the Record, Rove’s patience was clearly depleted, as he told host Greta Van Susteren it will “have the smallest viewership of any debate this year.”

Given the recent spate of news regarding Herman Cain‘s alleged extramarital activity, it makes sense that Greta Van Susteren would provide coverage and analysis of Cain’s campaign, as she did last night in two separate segments. What’s surprising, however, is that she never disclosed her husband’s relationship with Cain on-air. Even more shocking? Fox News EVP of programming Bill Shine doesn’t appear to care.

Thursday night, Fox News’ Greta Van Susteren sat down with Congresswoman Michele Bachmann to discuss various topics, perhaps most notably the Solyndra scandal.

Van Susteren posted the full, 17+ minute interview on her blog, but we’ll try to hit some of the highlights. Van Susteren kicked things off by asking Bachmann about Secretary of Energy Steven Chu’s recent testimony concerning the White House’s ties to the failed Solyndra corporation, particularly its decision to hand the company a tax payer-funded loan.

After a brief hiatus after announcing she would not seek the Republican nomination for the presidency in 2012, Sarah Palin returned to On the Record to give her take on the 2012 elections. The conversation got significantly less political when Greta Van Susteren asked the former governor for comment on Rick Santorum‘s decision to call for Penn State’s football team to abstain from playing football temporarily in the aftermath of the Jerry Sandusky, a problem towards which Palin had a solution: “hang [Sandusky] from the highest tree.”

In the past several weeks, Sarah Palin has mostly kept quiet about the Republican race, particularly since bowing out of a potential 2012 run herself. Tonight on On the Record, Palin gave her assessments of the various campaigns without endorsing any individual candidate (“the cream of the crop has not yet risen”) and had some particularly strong words for the media regarding their treatment of Rep. Ron Paul: it is “unfair,” she argued, to deprive him of media coverage.

Gloria Cain is standing by her husband. The wife of presidential contender Herman Cain‘s long-waited interview with Greta Van Susteren aired tonight, and explained the way she heard of every individual allegation, and her firm belief that her husband’s conscience would not let him keep something like those allegations from her.

Tonight at 10 p.m. on ABC, Diane Sawyer will interview Gabrielle Giffords, the Arizona congresswoman who was shot in the head at close range in January, and has made an amazing recovery over the last 10 months. Two hours before the interview is set to air, Sawyer will be a guest on Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor. Normally, this wouldn’t be big news: Bill O’Reilly — love him or hate him — has one of the most-watched shows on television, and he regularly finishes on top of the cable news ratings on a nightly basis. So anyone wanting any kind of promotion for their show would be smart to pay O’Reilly a visit. But airing at 10 p.m. on Monday night, opposite Sawyer, on O’Reilly’s own channel, is a Greta Van Susteren interview with Herman Cain‘s enigmatic wife, Gloria. As of this afternoon, there was no word of Van Susteren appearing on O’Reilly’s for a promo of her show. In fact, Van Susteren hasn’t appeared on O’Reilly’s show since — and this is from volumes of Mediaite research and brainpower — late spring.

After a report surfaced yesterday that Herman Cain‘s wife, Gloria, would be sitting down with Greta Van Susteren for an exclusive interview over the weekend, Van Susteren confirmed the news today on her blog Gretawire, with photos of Van Susteren and the couple and noting that the interview, which will also include some of their children, to air tomorrow.
