Chris Matthews has some serious questions about the Democratic propaganda machine. If Barack Obama managed to pass the cornerstone legislation of his presidential campaign with health care and was enormously popular when elected, where is the Democratic party to back him up when Republicans attack his policies?

Chris Rock is not exactly America’s top political pundit, but his fresh perspective on the left during his appearance on Real Time With Bill Maher yesterday he provided insights on topics the professionals often overlook. Democrats, he argued, have to develop some thick skin. Being Chris Rock, he followed that up with the claim that true racial equality would only be achieved when America has a “dumb black president.”

Linda Douglass, who served as spokesperson for the Obama administration in charge of health care, is leaving the White House.

Douglass says the experience has been “exhilarating and grueling,” but it is Douglass’ past job, ABC News Congressional Correspondent, that raises questions about her future plans.

The Associated Press is reporting that a man from northern California has been arrested by the FBI for allegedly making threatening phone calls to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. As of yet, little is known except that the calls were related to health care reform.

As Frank Rich noted in his Sunday column this week a whole lot of people suffer from the habit of comparing President Obama to past political heavy-weights. Or not. At least according to New Yorker editor David Remnick today on Meet the Press, who noted that Obama “does not have the talents” of Ronald Reagan.

Former Bush speechwriter David Frum appeared on The Colbert Report last night to discuss his firing from the American Enterprise Institute for daring to tell the truth about the GOP’s defeat on health care. He rightly corrected host Stephen Colbert‘s assertion that he was a conservative “apostate,” but that’s probably Frum’s biggest problem right now. Conservative apostates can still make a living, but nobody wants a conservative heretic.

The border between confidence and hubris is often difficult to see. In an instant, one’s confident declaration can be viewed as pomposity. Critics of President Obama have long painted him as aloof and detached, while his supporters see him as cool and appropriately dispassionate. It’s in this context that the following speech is sure to be analyzed in the opinion shows this evening. So, now that you know what will be on Fox News and MSNBC tonight.

What is the first image that comes to mind when you hear the words “National Republican Party”? Thanks to Erik Brown, probably something inappropriate. But imagine the opposite of that, and you’ll get the latest “positive ad” from the NRSC, thanking Barack Obama for bringing unemployment down to -39% and investing in “low-emission unicorns.”

The Democrats’ extremely short health care honeymoon appears to be over. This week, according to Gallup, voters are apparently back to preferring the GOP candidate. Something so rare it’s only happened three times before now. Reporters are apparently “flummoxed.”

The RNC got caught paying for bondage club field trips, LL Cool J and Sarah Palin are at war, and now someone has managed to displease the robotically sunny Ezra Klein. Yes, it’s been that kind of a week in the media world.

Pretty much the only person not to weigh in on the Tea Partiers in the last eight months has been the person arguably most affected by them, namely, President Obama. No more. Obama touched on both the Tea Partiers and the Birthers during his lengthy-ish interview with Matt Lauer and he totally lost his cool! Kidding.

Conservative activist Jason Mattera, who created a stir at this year’s CPAC, has posted video of an ambush interview in which Senator Al Franken (D-MN) is driven to exclaim “You need to shut up right now!” During the interview, Mattera constantly interrupts Franken, calls him “Senator Smalley,” and attacks provisions of health care reform that support funding for schools and breastfeeding. At least Mattera wasn’t wearing a costume. Check it out after the jump.

Last night ‘Waterloo-er’ David Frum popped up on Larry King Live, along with Scott McClellan and John Avalon. King, not lately known for his, um, hardcore interview style, nevertheless managed to get a few interesting gems out of Frum. First question: Are you a heretic? Answer: No, I don’t think so. Then it got interesting.

The best part of the GMA clip below may be the subject line of the ABC News alert email which contained it that just landed in my inbox: “Palin: Love or Hate Her, She’s Here to Stay.” No kidding. Actually, the point of the article appears to be that no matter what ridiculousness Sarah Palin injects into the world, the world continues to eat it up.

Lost somewhere among the Saturday night Glenn Beck reruns and Geraldo Rivera‘s missing people exposés is usually a nugget or two of pure commentary gold, whether it’s Chris Wallace calling the White House a bunch of “crybabies” or a segment dedicated to bashing Sarah Palin. This weekend, Cal Thomas uncovered the secret “haiku going on” between the Democrats and the mainstream media, and Fox News Watch host Jon Scott did his best impression of a living edition of the Boston Globe.

I guess this means Sarah Palin has a sense of humor. Also, a grasp of the English language that perhaps some had not previously attributed to her. Palin followed up a weekend of well-covered speeches with this Facebook note, ostensibly about March Madness (the basketball kind).

In case you missed it, Frank Rich penned one of his epic, touchstone columns yesterday; the sort that will subsequently be brandished on both sides of the aisle as evidence the opposition had gone off the rails, as was evidenced on yesterday’s Sunday shows. It is, of course, exactly the sort of thing Rich is paid to do.

This week President Barack Obama signed the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act into law. This major health care reform bill was voted against by every Republican member of Congress as it made its way through the Senate and the House of Representatives. History was made, but quality late night jokes were not. Whether you are a Democrat celebrating a step in the right direction or a Republican turning to your favorite late night comedy host for a little comfort and laughter, everybody can cross party lines to agree: this week’s health care jokes just made us sicker.

Maybe next time Eric Cantor decides to make a (almost literally) federal case about something he should check with the police first. Yesterday, Cantor held a rather dramatic news conference to announce that the Dems weren’t the only victims of violence following Sunday’s health care vote; someone had shot at his office also! Turns out, not so much.

Pretty soon the question is going to be who isn’t to blame for the threats against members of Congress following Sunday’s health care bill vote. There is a lot of finger-pointing going on (needless to say). So perhaps it was inevitable that at some point the fingers turned to the original death paneler, herself, Sarah Palin. Former Bush speechwriter David Frum has been fired from the American Enterprise Institute, the right-wing research institution where he has been a resident fellow since 2003. The announcement comes shortly after Frum received a rush of criticism for a column suggesting that the passing of health care reform was the Republicans’ “Waterloo,” and that they “suffered their most crushing legislative defeat since the 1960s.”

President Obama would like you to know that the health care bill passed and, contrary to the prediction of….many, it was not followed by Armageddon. Obama addressed a rally in Iowa this afternoon where he gently mocked the overheated rhetoric that flooded the airwaves the last few weeks: “So after I signed the bill I look around to see if there were any asteroids falling…Turns out it was a nice day.”

Chris Matthews knows a thing or two about gaffes. The shouty MSNBC host has suggested the American military is the President’s “enemy,” become questionably aroused by political events, and made off-color remarks about Barack Obama’s race (and that was just this past year). So when Vice President (of Comic Relief) Joe Biden got a little too excited about the health care bill, Matthews rushed to praise him for his tendency to go off-script.

Don’t think the Tea Partiers are unaware of the recent criticisms cast at them regarding their potentially violent protest behavior– they’re just taking a “what doesn’t kill us makes us stronger” approach to the negative coverage. Today’s battlefield is the few feet of space between Missouri Congressman Russ Carnahan’s home lawn and the sidewalk before it, where Big Government‘s Jim Hoft defies Politico to prove the protesters put a coffin on private property.
