The Tonight Show with Jay Leno has never been known known for having particularly “edgy” humor. That’s probably why it’s the only comedy show on NBC that most of America will actually watch (You don’t listen to the mean regular people, Community. We still love you!). Take for example a recent barb thrown Mitt Romney’s way; a joke whose vicious premise seems to be that, hey, that Romney guy is kind of rich, huh? It wasn’t exactly the most biting of satire. However, something went wrong along the way and the joke has somehow created an international incident with India’s Sikh community.

Last night Jon Stewart weighed in on President Obama‘s post-election trip to East Asia, expressing both skepticism of the motivation behind the trip and mockery of Obama’s dance moves. Yes, many thought it cool when candidate Obama danced on the set of Ellen; but dancing with Indian kids celebrating the Hindu holiday of Diwali at a local school in Mumbai? Not so much. Oh fickle punditry, easy to deride a man down on his metaphorical mojo.

Some days, it might not seem like it, but White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has proven, once again, that he has the White House press corps’ backs. When Indian security officials tried to restrict press access to an event yesterday, Gibbs not only threatened to pull President Obama from the event, he even offered to let them break his foot!

President Obama and the First Lady are certainly having an active trip abroad. Following the Mrs. Obama’s hopscotch moment with Indian students yesterday, the President and First Lady attended a celebration of the Hindu holiday of Diwali at a local school in Mumbai. They even busted out a few moves, participating in a fisherman’s folk dance with a group of children.

As another voice to the cacophony of pundits who have a problem with the Obama’s taking off for India. Frank Rich. Rich is not so much worried about the economics of the trip, or the President’s, er, “safety,” he just thinks it looks bad. Very bad.

President Barack Obama is staying in India in the coming days, prompting renewed criticism on the right that this is not the right time to spend money on travel. For many, the criticism, in this economy, is justified. For others, they are partisan attacks that fail to understand the importance of diplomacy. Then there’s the “ethnic aspect” Chris Matthews finds, in which President Obama is considered “not worthy to travel.”

Press Trust of India reported earlier this week that President Obama‘s plan trip to Inida would cost US taxpayers $200 Miliion per day during his visit to Mumbai. Though the story did not name a source, according to CBS News “the $200 million claim was credited to ‘a top official of the Maharashtra Government privy to the arrangements for the high-profile visit.’” Though the White House claims the cost to have “no basis in reality” it was a hot topic in today’s White House press briefing.
