ABC affiliate WPBF, meanwhile, is reporting that, according to local Florida attorney Spencer Kuvin, his client “Private Elevator Productions” (a group, he says, of “Hollywood producers who wants to remain anonymous”) has offered Anthony $1 million for an exclusive interview.

A quick search for the company brought up a couple of available of domain names for sale.

In addition, the owner of a website called “The Dirty” has offered Anthony $350,000 for an interview, prompting Kuvin to send a letter to the site’s lawyer, asking them to “cease and desist.”

The host of Fox Business’s Follow the Money and co-host of The Five can be seen on nearly every program– from Fox & Friends to filling in on The O’Reilly Factor, and his swing-for-the-fences opinions have made him as popular as he is controversial on the network. Bolling opens up to Mediaite about how he ended up in the cable news business, his favorite television moments, and what plans may be in store for the future.

Bolling was never a political personality by trade– in fact, if you ever caught him hosting Glenn Beck, you’d remember his first trade was as a professional baseball player for the Pittsburgh Pirates. An injury cut his athletic career short, and he eventually ended up on the trading floor of the New York Mercantile exchange. “I was competing with the big banks. Early on I saw it was oil company trading with investment bank on Wall Street, and I said, ‘There must be a way to compete with this,’” he notes, and found himself doing quite well in commodities trading. So well, in fact, that he caught the eye of a CNBC reporter on the trading floor, and the rest is essentially history. Bolling went on to help put together what is now CNBC’s Fast Money. His departure to Fox Business, he has recalled several times, was a decision made the same way every other single decision is made or conclusion arrived at: what the best thing would be for his son. Fox Business offered hours more compatible to quality time with the younger Bolling, and it wasn’t a difficult decision to make from there.

“I test everything with: How would this affect my 13-year-old when he becomes an adult?”

During his tenure at CNBC, he first developed a taste for challenging the norms. He fondly remembers his biggest challenge there, against Mad Money star Jim Cramer. “I was the guy that had all this trading experience… a lot of skin in the game. I heard Jim Cramer was getting a little upset with me because he was the big dog, he had Mad Money, he had this huge persona and whatnot, then I was starting to get some popularity. I like energy markets, I like metal markets, and I said, ‘you have to be careful with the financial markets.’ This is before the meltdown. So he booked himself on our show—now, we’d never had guests up until that point,” he explains. “So I hear he’s coming on and coming after me. And I did what I do best, I have a tendency to fight back and, sure enough, he came at me.” He went on to bet Cramer $50,000 on the air — for charity — that the financial markets would be in decline in the very near future. He won. “You talk about defining moments in life? That was my defining moment in TV. Everyone said ‘He knows what he’s talking about, in the markets.’”

Bolling does not feel that, in the political world, he has different responsibilities as far as what he says on air. “When you talk about financial news, you’re talking about peoples’ money,” he argues. “They listen to you, they take your advice… there are certain principles in life that work whether you’re talking baseball, whether you’re talking business, or you’re talking politics, and they happen to have all the same drivers.” For Bolling, that most important driver is the future he and the country leave to his son, Eric Chase. “I have a 13-year-old son, it scares me to think that he’s going to grow up in a situation where he may step into adulthood owing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the government, or China, or whomever.” He brings that to any and every program on which he appears. “It’s an interesting concept that I can take my business background and apply it to the politics of the day, and it works,” he notes. No matter what the issue, “I test everything with: How would this affect my 13-year-old when he becomes an adult? If you keep doing that and you stay true to it, then you’re not going to get in trouble.”

In the interview, Matthews mentioned that Gingrich had snarked Romney with an SNL jab.

Matthews: You called him a Saturday Night Live joke.

Gingrich: Well, that ad was a SNL joke – for a Massachusetts moderate to put out an ad questioning my credentials as a conservative, it’s the kind of chutzpah that you don’t really quite expect to find in someone like Romney.

Matthews: Let’s talk about Tampa. I have always thought, watching this thing from the other side, I could see it from the middle sometimes and sometimes sympathetically. I look at this tea party phenomenon – how do these people and their representatives go to Tampa at the end of this summer when it’s sweltering down there. I always like to the get the atmosphere in there – it’s hot, the humidity is 105 degrees, and they sit around and cheer Mitt Romney? How does that work?

Gingrich: It won’t. He’s not going to be the nominee.

Matthews: Could it work if he were the nominee? Would [the tea party] ever be able to cheer him on there?

Gingrich: They would never cheer him. Why would they cheer someone – if you were a Tea Party person, why would you cheer someone who raised taxes, created the prototype of Obama care – appointed liberal judges to appease the Democrats – that’s his line, not mine – and put in taxes paid abortions, took care of Planned Parenthood… here’s any easy question for you to answer — – name one conservative accomplishment or public policy of Romney’s.

Obama said he’s at his peak happiness when he is doing things to make those around him feel happier, while the first lady said it was being surrounded by her family.

She admitted that over the years she has grown more patient with her family, and her husband acknowledged that she has mellowed out since he was elected to the presidency. As for the president’s greatest regrets, the Commander-in-Chief wished he would have learned how to play a musical instrument when he was younger and focused more on learning how to speak Spanish in grade school.

When asked to name his biggest peeve about his wife, the president played it like a politician and said he didn’t have one. However, he did have some thoughts on what the biggest misconception about him is.

“Detached or Spock-like or very analytical. I think that’s a misconception about me. I’m a softy. Stuff can choke me up very easily. My girls, for example.”

Walters asked the president and first lady when they would justify telling lies. The president admitted to telling small personal lies to family members about their personal appearance. He went on to talk about laziness being one of his weaker traits, while the first lady admitted her disdain for people who are unwilling to compromise.

Of course, no holiday season would be complete without mention of cute little animals, and when Walters asked the first lady what she would like to be reincarnated as after death, she immediately decided on the family dog Bo.

“I’ve talked to a lot of people who worked for Obama at the grassroots level,” Damon fumed. “One of them said to me, ‘Never again. I will never be fooled again by a politician…You know, a one-term president with some balls who actually got stuff done would have been, in the long run of this country, much better.”

“If the Democrats think that they didn’t have a mandate,” Damon continued. “People are literally without any focus or leadership, just wandering out into the streets to yell right now because they are so pissed off. Imagine if they had a leader.”

The actor’s criticism of President Obama is not new; he had previously chided him on CNN’s Piers Morgan last March, saying he wasn’t a fan, but appreciated that he was a “deep thinker.”

For five consecutive days, the show averaged more demo viewers than shows airing in primetime (!) like John King USA, The Dylan Ratigan Show, and Erin Burnett‘s OutFront. All this for a show that airs at a time synonymous with Jack Lalanne Juicer informercials. Gutfeld divulged his secrets on how to keep people awake, his love of British pop culture, affinity for sludge metal and predilection for the news aggregator site Fark.

RELATED: Summer Of Gutfeld? Strong Ratings For Both Red Eye And The Five

Gutfeld’s gutsy early morning talk show is a kind of anti-Daily Show, regularly featuring a motley crew of random panelists from all ideological shapes and colors (“From left libertarian to right libertarian, moderate liberals, communists…”). Sometimes controversial and often audacious, but always interesting, the program is never afraid to stick a finger in someone’s eye, like the way Gutfeld did earlier this year, when he put Maroon 5′s Adam Levine on blast for slamming Fox News. Deadpan co-host Andy Levy also famously rhetorically curb stomped Chris Brown on Twitter.

You would presume the show’s kickass ratings stem from viewers DVRing the show for later, but in fact, people really do tune in at the crack of dawn to watch.

“We know we’re an awesome show, I just want to put that out there,” Gutfeld humbly acknowledges.

When asked about CNN, the network his show trounces regularly, the cable news star says he doesn’t look at them as competition.

“Our biggest competitor is sleep; we have to convince a viewer not to go to bed and that’s [the] hardest challenge a TV show has,” he explains. “Sleep is far more enjoyable than what you’re going to see on CNN at 8 o’clock.”

“We can argue Red Eye is far superior to any kind of entertainment that you’re going get when you’re unconscious, I can safely say that.”

Despite the show’s penchant for tomfoolery, random YouTube clips and a talking newspaper puppet, Gutfeld says he doesn’t feel like his show is a comedy show.

“It just so happens that most humans when they’re communicating to each other about the most basic stories and assumptions of life tend to communicate through humor, and it takes the edge off when you’re talking about serious stuff,” he contends.

“I don’t see Red Eye as a comedy show; the choice of stories can be absolutely no different than what you’d find on the O’Reilly Factor or any show. It’s just that we’ll have comedians on [as] just regular people. On our show you’re encouraged to talk as though you’re sitting around at a bar, and that you’re saying your true feelings and it’s not about impressing people, it’s just how you’d talk after three beers, though none of us have had three beers.”

Gutfeld says you don’t have to be famous — or even conservative — to go on his show. “You just have to be interesting and, I think, likable. When we have a hard-core left winger on the show, they know the show is going to be fun and they know we listen to any kind of opinion. We don’t immediately dismiss you out of hand because of your assumptions. The one thing that sticks with me is something Penn Jilette said a couple of years ago. He looks for people that you can never predict their third opinion after hearing their first two. I’ve always taken that advice, of hanging around people who you just cant predict every opinion, because if you can predict every opinion you’ve got an incredibly boring show, or if it’s a network it would be MSNBC.”

And also, in case you didn’t know, the show actually films at 8pm — not 3 in the morning.

“We film in the evenings, not really at 3 a.m., though we try to pretend, but no, everyone knows it’s not at 3 a.m.,” Gutfeld says. “We wouldn’t be able to survive after 3 months because we’d all become raging alcoholics if we had to stay up until 3 a.m.! The caliber of guests would be drastically different, it would be anybody who’s up at 3 a.m. – strippers and bartenders!”

Many Red Eye fans might be surprised to learn that Gutfeld is an “ex-expatriate.” He lived in London from 2004 to 2007, and admits it may have played a factor in much of the dark humor laced throughout his early morning show.

“A lot of the shows that I like, that I watched in London like Nighty Night, and Big Brother’s Big Mouth, Peep Show, I’m Alan Partridge, which I think was no longer on, in repeats. These were all fairly surreal, subversive shows and I guess that probably seeped into my brain.”

“I always liked a lot of British humor,” he continues. “As a kid I loved Monty Python, I watch it now and it doesn’t make me laugh, but when I was a kid I ate it up. I hated Benny Hill. I think it might have had an effect. There is some really unbelievable writing in England.”

Admittedly, Gutfeld will sometimes watch rival network CNN, like when he tuned in for Dinner with the Kings, a special in which former CNN host Larry King invited Shaq, Russell Brand, Tyra Banks and Conan O’Brien (among others) to dinner for a chat.

During the show, Gutfeld was most impressed with O’Brien’s opinions on entitlements.

“It was very refreshing to hear him condemn entitlements, I had never heard that from Conan O’Brien — him make a political or moral statement. He condemned the entitlement character — a person who feels like they deserve something without actually working for it and I really felt like it was a subtle but specific jab at the Occupy Wall Street protests.”

To stay on top of the news, Gutfeld reads the “Drudges of the world.” “I read Aces’ blog which is pretty good, and I’ll look at the Huffington Post, because I used to work there; I go there and just get a little wistful. I go to Fark. I think Fark is a good place to find unusual stories; they get almost everything. I look at a lot of the stuff in England as well, the Daily Mail. I look at a lot of music blogs, I like PopMatters and Stereogum.”

A self-professed music junkie, Gutfeld says he uses his show to meet people he likes, such as members of The Clash. His musical tastes are pretty varied. “From Generation X all the way up to to present day bands, I like The Melvins, Torch, Black Moth Super Rainbow, F*cked Up — I love having Dick Valentine, Electric Six, I try to get people that I’m interested in.”

But Gutfeld’s most memorable Red Eye guest has been, far and away, Sex Pistol’s lead singer Johnny Rotten. “I will always have to go back to Johnny Rotten, just for me. As a teenager, I had posters of the Sex Pistols on my wall when I was 14 or 15.”

Some would argue that Gutfeld’s status as a ratings draw would make him a perfect match for prime-time, but Gutfeld stresses he is thankful for what he’s got.

“I’m happy to have a job. I usually don’t look too far into the future. I’m doing two shows on Fox News channel. Five years ago, I had nothing on TV! I was writing a book on England, living in London. To be able to do two programs is pretty awesome! I’m just pleased as punch,” Gutfeld exclaims. “I can’t believe I just said, ‘pleased as punch.’”

Greg Gutfeld can be regularly seen on Fox News’s Red Eye and The Five. Follow him on Twitter at @greggutfeld.

“Republican primary voters are conservative, I don’t buy this whole notion that the Republicans can’t be confrontational, can’t be aggressive and can’t go on offense because they will tick off the independents,” Limbaugh opined.

“We’re not supposed to be critical of liberalism and socialism. It makes independents nervous. So what do we do? We nominate milqueoast moderates. And what do they do? They lose!” he added.

“I actually think that if you can get — if you talk to these guys — Republican establishment, elected officials, party officials, certain inside the beltway media, you just ask me can Obama be beat? I say hell yes!” Limbaugh exclaimed. “They will tell you ‘they don’t think so.’ They are scared to death! Nobody won anything defending anything. You win on offense, you win attacking, you don’t win defending anything because you can’t advance. They are always defending. You can’t advance! … I would rather have somebody who thinks Obama can be beat, knows Obama can be beat and wants Obama to be beat. And that is somebody conservative, not moderate, not squeamish, not populist. We don’t need a candidate who’s going to try to say things or be things he or she doesn’t believe or isn’t. I think conservative appeals to everybody.”

“I don’t belong to anybody. I don’t work for anybody. I don’t work for CNN, I don’t work for MSNBC. I have the freedom to say out loud what I’m thinking, which is sometimes dangerous. I’m just a chick who lives in Atlanta.”

TheGrio.com editor and cable news rising star Goldie Taylor spoke with Mediaite recently about her many notable high-profile television appearances, her politics and her upcoming news and opinion website.

The no-nonsense, Atlanta-based broadcast journalist’s blunt honesty, and provocative insights have made her one of the most interesting voices on the political airwaves.

Taylor spent much of her life fighting to make it where she is today. She grew up in East St. Louis, later joining the Marines, and attended bootcamp at Parris Island, South Carolina. Following that experience, she attended Defense Information School in Indiana, where she was trained in public affairs and broadcast journalism.

“I was trained in the Marine Corps as a broadcast journalist, when I left, I got an internship at CBS 5 (now Fox 5), and a part-time job at the Atlanta Journal Constitution,” she says.

“Back when I was working for the newspaper, and came out of the military making $7.50 an hour and raising three kids, I also was on welfare, receiving food stamps and supplemental income, I went to Emory University, which was the only college at the time that had family housing, because without it, we would’ve been homeless.”

She left journalism in the early ’90s, to volunteer on various political campaigns, most notably, the US Senate campaign for Republican Guy Millner. Taylor herself ran for Georgia Secretary of State in 1996, though later dropped out due to medical issues. She attained success in the PR world becoming an “executive at two Fortune 500 companies”, and now manages her own advertising agency.

Taylor says that her mother taught her much about the importance of work ethic. “My road here has been as much about that than anything else,” Taylor says. “The other part of it is that I just wouldn’t shut my mouth! Even when it endangered my job or position sometimes, I just kept writing and saying what I wanted to say, until I landed here, which is probably why I’m not a contributor at a network on staff.”

She says one of the biggest tipping points that led her into cable news ubiquity came from a 2008 article she wrote for EbonyJet about Sarah Palin, entitled “A Woman’s Worth“, in reference to the Alicia Keys song.

“Sarah Palin appeared on my television set as the vice presidential nominee, I was furious because of all of the women on the planet, there were smart, conservative women who knew their stuff, I felt like this was one of those ‘we have to equal the playing field’ (things), so we have to pick a woman,” she says, in the context of Obama being the first black presidential nominee.

Taylor went home and wrote about Palin’s speech and sent it to her friends on email. One of her friends happened to write for EbonyJet magazine and she shared what Taylor had written.

“I was getting email from Singapore about it!” Taylor exclaims.

“I wrote a few more articles at that point, I started my own blog on WordPress, and around that time I joined Facebook and Twitter,” she adds.

Taylor jokes her kids were ticked off when she was joining Facebook but they eventually relented and friended her.

“During all of this time, I had been working in PR and advertising and I had been a senior manager, and then I had been an executive at a global public relations firm, along the way that set me up for a meeting that I had with CNN with the Black in America series, that took me back inside the media.”

“My own personal politics are quite conservative,” Taylor reveals. “I would pass most conservative litmus tests. When people call me liberal, I kind of chuckle and say, ‘yeah okay.’”

“I don’t belong to anybody,” Taylor explains. “I don’t work for anybody. I don’t work for CNN, I don’t work for MSNBC. I have the freedom to say out loud what I’m thinking, which is sometimes dangerous. I’m just a chick who lives in Atlanta.”

“I think the first show I was on was probably Tamron Hall, talking about President Obama and the black vote and what he needed to do to energize it.”

Taylor says a later news segment from The Rachel Maddow Show earlier this year featuring her talking about the controversy over President Obama’s birth certificate based on a story she wrote for TheGrio about her great-great-grandfather lifted her into the mainstream. The lede of her story summed up her feelings on the subject:

“Show me your papers!”
Major Blackard, then just 19 years old, dug into his trousers in search of his wallet. He patted his jacket, but could not find his billfold.
“Sir, I done left my wallet…” Blackard said. Before he could finish his sentence, the young man was posted against the brick wall, cuffed and taken to the St. Louis city jail. Unable to prove his identity, he would spend the next 21 days in a cramped, musty cell. That’s where his older brother Matt found him, beaten and bloodied. Matt returned with Major’s employer later that day, wallet and identification card in hand, to post bond.
The year was 1899. Major Blackard was my great, great grandfather.

“A lot of people saw it and that created access,” Taylor says. “So now I’m on regularly.”

Despite her success on the other cable news networks, Taylor has pledged never to appear on Fox News.

“I’m not particularly a fan of their business model. Say what you will about MSNBC or CNN, or how liberal they may be, they’re probably more liberal than I am, but I think they come to things honorably,” she says. “It’s not a place for voices like mine. I don’t necessarily know that diversity is important for Fox News’s audience. I don’t know if they care about race, they look for ideology. MSNBC puts a lot of value in diversity, ideology, religion and ethnicity, they absolutely have a left-leaning bend, but you’re going to find more voices. I don’t always line up, and I have an appreciation for that.”

As an Atlanta resident, Taylor has often appeared in news interviews to discuss the presidential campaign of Herman Cain, which, while she is critical, had some insight into his earlier success as a candidate and thought it was important for other black men and women to see that hard work “can and will pay off.”

“We knew one another, we never spent any time together, we’re very known quantities in the city, we’re the biggest small town on Earth, we all know one another here…I don’t think Herman Cain has to apologize to anybody for being black and conservative, he owes no one an explanation for that, but to say on the one hand, race doesn’t hold anybody back in a significant way, but then say I’m the victim of a high-tech lynching. Is the world post-racial? You can’t have it both ways.”

“I’m a bit on Herman’s side that I believe African Americans ought to be able to have more diverse voices and sometimes when people step out of the norm we tend to demonize and make it difficult for them. That’s not right, that’s groupthink,” Taylor explains. “Herman Cain didn’t get there by himself and I think African Americans could look at him and say they’re excited about his success, but don’t insult us on the way.”

Taylor thinks Cain’s newest scandal involving allegations of a 13-year affair will doom his campaign.

“There was never a time when Herman Cain was going to be the Republican nominee. Whether he accepts it or not, this latest allegation spells an end to his campaign,” Taylor says bluntly. “He can choose to keep going, but only at great cost to himself and his family. He has attempted to blame left wing liberals, but the real culprit is likely the GOP establishment who never saw him as a suitable leader for the party. Race has very little to do with that. Herman Cain has been tragically and incomprehensibly unprepared on the issues that matter most to our country.”

Taylor is planning on launching a brand new news and opinion site, named Big Republic in January.

“The idea behind it is there’s so much distortion out there, left/right that we have to tell the folks what’s happening — we’re moving on the premise, we’re one world, one people and every voice should be welcome in the tent, so I’m looking for contributors who want to move the conversation forward. It’s a no-party kind of site, it’s independent.”

She says her new site will be most similar to The Daily Beast, and will give other perspectives other than many of the Manhattan-centric ones. “I’m looking for authentic voices, there will be features, original reporting and columns, this will be a general market site,” she says.

Taylor says the site is “full circle for me, when I originally left politics, I was vice-president of technology at one of the largest PR firms and this is bringing it all together for me. It’s technology, it’s politics and it’s journalism under one tent, I don’t have to leave anything behind.”

When asked about what she would tell young up-and-coming journalists who are interested in getting involved with cable news, Taylor says, “I wouldn’t recommend it for the faint of heart.”

Goldie Taylor can be seen frequently on Martin Bashir and Don Lemon‘s programs. When asked what people he would consider to be in his administration, the former Godfather Pizza CEO suggested 88-year-old Henry Kissinger, who previously served as President Nixon‘s secretary of state from 1973 to 1977.

“Dr. Kissinger turned my offer down to be secretary of state,” Cain replied, eliciting nervous laughter from a reporter. “He said he’s perfectly happy doing what he’s doing.”

The curious aside was plucked from Cain’s 45 minute Q&A, which Cain’s staff has since criticized.

Cain Communications Director J.D. Gordon called the newspaper’s video “out of context in some measure.”

“Trying to spin it and say it was edited or handled some other way is just not accurate,” Milwaukee Journal Sentinel editor Martin Kaiser said earlier on CNN.

It was to explore this latter element that CNN’s Dr. Sanjay Gupta found himself Havana last week, from where he told Mediaite his first impressions and expectations on the island, and worked on an upcoming documentary on swimmer Diana Nyad‘s attempt to traverse the stretch of water from Havana to Florida.

Many have argued that the Cuban health care system is somewhat of a marvel compared to the rest of the island’s industries– not the least due to the fact that the government made a very public push to make doctors its greatest export. This has led to both strong criticism from those that perceive it as a distraction from the goings-on otherwise on the island, or see it as a ploy for the nation to ingratiate itself internationally with nation’s that simply cannot afford good medical education. On the other hand, those who praise it cite numbers (mostly from the Cuban government) that show the average life of a Cuban to be, at least on paper, more disease-free than many in the Western world. To this end, Dr. Gupta traveled to the island to take a look himself and try to speak to as many people on the ground there as he could.

Journalistic missions like these, even if explicitly avoiding the political situation on the island, nevertheless touch on an emotional, political wound that hasn’t stopped bleeding for more than half a century. The relationship between Cuba, the Cuban exile community, and the American mainstream media is a tenuous one, and as a member of the Cuban exile community, this topic is particular is personally difficult for me. I grew up with an acute understanding of the systematic physical and psychological destruction the regime is to blame for– it is plain to see every day in the faces of our loved ones, and the former prisoners of conscience in our communities who huddle in cafes to reminisce about the time they served in brutally inhumane conditions for having complimented America once, or written a defiant essay, or even worn their hair long or listened to “yanqui” music. The pain is inked in the headlines of our media that dare publish stories of families of political prisoners being beaten and scorned on the streets.

In this context– and in the context of the mainstream media’s history with the communist dictatorship (from Herbert Matthews to 1990s Lou Dobbs to Michael Moore to Oliver Stone)– justifying a look at the health care system at face value is about as acceptable as an in-depth report on Mussolini-era Italy’s efficient train system. Regime sympathizers have used it as a smokescreen to shield eyes from the atrocities of the regime, and thus the distrust in the community is very high when such analyses come to the fore. But in the post-USSR, post-internet world, in a world where the demand for Happy Meals and iPods has proven a far more powerful political motivator than the temptations of abstract fundamental human rights, opening governments requires shining spotlights and exchanging culture. Even apolitical reports like Dr. Gupta’s force the regime to exhibit a candor with which it is unfamiliar, and serve to remind the world of the inconvenient fact that Cuban people, so many decades later, still live under the yoke of the Revolution’s dilapidated, rabid haughtiness.

With this heavy in mind, I spoke to Dr. Gupta earlier this week from Havana–who, as you will read, came into the experience acutely aware of the nature of the government, no agenda and plenty of curiosity. I found in him a refusal to subscribe to the Oliver Stone/Michael Moore school of willful blindness, admitting there were breathtaking elements to the island while acknowledging the scattering of asterisks and conjectures surrounding the statistics of the health care system, and the inability of journalists to paint a full picture.

On the next few pages, Dr. Gupta gives his first impressions of the island, his thoughts on the health care system as he has seen it, and gives a closer look at the story behind swimmer Diana Nyad’s quest to swim from Cuba to Florida. The look at the Cuban health care system is part of an episode of his program Sanjay Gupta, MD, airing Saturdays at 7:30 AM, while the documentary on Nyad is still in production.

In addition to airing in New York, the show is streamed live out on the Internet and is steadily building a devoted following of comedy nerds across the country. By combining the approach and aesthetic of a cult public access show with the streaming and interactive capabilities of a high-tech Internet property, the show has found a fascinating middle ground between the old and new.

In a lengthy conversation, we talked to Gethard about the genesis of the show, his thoughts on public access and social media, and the crazy and wonderful people with whom he shares the network.

First though, some background.

Gethard is not your typical public access host. A hero in the New York comedy community, just a few years ago he was starring in his own Comedy Central series, Big Lake. However, his self-deprecating and off-beat voice, typified by his extremely uncomfortable interview with an online critic, might never have been a perfect match for a mainstream (or mainstream-ish) sitcom. He seemed much more at home during the popular late night live variety show he hosted once a month at New York’s Upright Citizens Brigade Theatre. This was the original Chris Gethard Show.

It was during this time that he really began experimenting with social media promotion. This approach famously culminated in a year-long Twitter campaign to get Sean “Diddy” Combs to appear at the show. Shortly after he successfully got one of the most famous men in the world to show up at a random, nerdy variety show in a basement theater in New York, Gethard made a surprise announcement; he was ending “The Chris Gethard Show.”

A month or so later, he made an arguably more surprising announcement; a new version of the show was coming back. Weekly. On public access television.

In the couple of months it’s been on, the show has featured Gethard and a panel of his friends, celebrities like SNL favorites Horatio Sanz and Bobby Moynihan, and a character named The Human Fish, a man in goggles and a bathing suit who speaks in riddles and comes from the sea. One of the other stars is a young woman who goes by Random Jean. Jean was a random viewer who caught the show by accident during its second episode, called in to ask what she was watching, and was invited to come down to the studio. She’s been in every episode since.

Two weeks ago, we at Mediaite were writing up comedian Connor Ratliff’s hilarious parody presidential campaign which he premiered on Gethard’s show. As this writer explained what the show was to the Mediaite editors, it became clear that this was an interesting example of the do-it-yourself approach that was revolutionizing entertainment in the “upload” digital era. We contacted Gethard and he was nice enough to give us an interview.

The fact that Casey Anthony is now a free woman seems to have lit an even brighter fire under Grace as she visited Piers Morgan tonight for an interview. Repeating that she was “let down” by the verdict, Grace took offence to Morgan suggesting she made the case “her own” and shot back at other lawyers who had spoken to Morgan and considered the verdict reasonable: “your experts are wrong.”

Morgan managed to keep the tenor of the interview fairly low for the first part of the chat, opening by asking Grace to explain how the verdict made her feel. “Knowing that Tot Mom is free leaves me… a feeling of being let down,” she said, adding that the entire ordeal was “deeply upsetting to me” as she had witnessed “a miscarriage of justice in a system that we hold so dear.”

It didn’t take long to make her angry, however, as she snapped at Morgan for what appeared to be a fairly innocuous comment: that she had had a “fantastic run” with the case and had “made it your own.” “Whoa, whoa, whoa,” she began shouting, “I didn’t make anything my own. This is Caylee’s story.” She explained the process through which she and her production crew cull through the thousands of cases going on in the nation today– going through about 70-80 a day– and confirmed that this case particularly spoke to her. “It is every parent in America’s case– as a warning.”

Morgan then shifted gears to Grace’s faith in the jury system. “90% of the legal experts I’ve had on, when I pushed them… all said there was not enough hard evidence [to convict],” Morgan noted (through a bit of resistance). Grace replied that she believed in the system but also acknowledge that humans comprised it and humans made mistakes. That said, “I would be willing to suggest that your experts are wrong.” The reason the jury could not reasonably find doubt, Grace continued, was that the core excuse for not finding her guilty was the lack of, as Morgan put it, “hard” evidence. “Under our law,” however, “circumstantial evidence is deemed equal,” as in many cases, “you don’t have eyewitnesses to a crime.” To not deem the circumstantial evidence equal to hard evidence, Grace concluded, was the equivalent of giving Anthony a “gold star” for doing a good job of disposing of the body. “Why should Tot Mom get a benefit because the child was so decomposed?”

In her first interview since the day in 1991 when she was kidnapped, Jaycee Dugard described a life in captivity to ABC’s Diane Sawyer–saying she endured years of abuse and the birth of two children the best way she knew how. “You just do what you have to do to survive.” Dugard, who’s written a book about her life, shared for the first time the details of her abduction–a disappearance that haunted her family and frustrated police (who we learn came very close at times to finding her).

Dugard says she was walking to school when a car rolled up, the driver’s window went down, and her entire life changed:

“His hand shoots out and I just feel numb. My whole body is tingly…I fall back in the bushes,” Dugard said.

Garrido had shocked her with a stun gun. Panicked, Dugard scooted back towards the woods. She remembers grasping a sticky pinecone, the last thing she touched while free.

Now, she wears a pinecone charm around her neck to symbolize her freedom.

“It’s a symbol of hope and new beginnings and that there is life after something tragic.”

After shocking her, the Garridos stuffed her into their car, hid her under a blanket in the backseat.

Dugard told Sawyer she wondered througout her captivity if her mother, with whom she’s been reunited, was looking for her. “”I wondered if she found out what had happened to me, if she was looking for me,” Dugard said.

I could feel her pain, not with my body, but again with my heart. Completely unbearable and debilitating.”

Weiner just as his Twitter account released a skimpy underwear photo. Maddow was by far the least combative of his interviewers, and the approach seemed to have paid off. This time, instead of “I don’t know,” the Congressman told Maddow that it is possible that the photo was of him and had been “taken out of context.”

After a lengthy explanation of what exactly went on this weekend and the potential hacking theories that would explain how Rep. Weiner could have been hacked, Maddow introduced Rep. Weiner, who jokingly told her “I blame it all on you” before answering questions. Maddow kept the questions broad and allowed him time for explanation, and most of his core story didn’t change much from any of his other interviews: “Someone somehow got access to my Twitter account and tweeted a joke… when your name is ‘Weiner’ you get some of those sometimes.” He noted that “I do all of my own tweeting” and that the possibility of someone else having access to his account “doesn’t seem likely,” though he has hired a private investigation team. Of his behavior after the fact, he said he “quickly deleted it and move on with my life,” not expecting it to be a story and, to this day, still refuses to acknowledge it as important. “I don’t believe this is a big national emergency that requires international attention,” he joked.

Maddow then approached cautiously a question many throughout the day had been searching for an answer to with no clear result, preempting it with the fact that, thanks to his vague answer about the photo’s origin, “you realize that now everybody thinks the photo is you… where there’s smoke there’s fire.” Having apparently watched Lawrence O’Donnell an hour before, Rep. Weiner replied, “I have to say, I wish!” before saying that “the photo doesn’t look familiar to me.” Yet he still refused to say definitively whether it is him, but this time explained his rationale slightly more: “stuff gets manipulated… maybe it started out being a photograph of mine,” he allowed, that “was taken out of context.”

Rep. Weiner concluded that he would indeed return to Twitter and promised, “anything to unravel this important mystery, I will do.” As this controversy enters its fifth day, one can only hope new details will rise to clarify what exactly happened here soon.

Holmes, who once worked for an NBC affiliate in Joplin as well as in other Southern cities dotted across “Tornado Alley,” told us that the damage to the city is so extensive that even one 20-year resident found himself losing his bearings.

“Even if you’re familiar with Joplin, you get lost in Joplin,” Holmes shared. “You don’t have any markers.” He described how many homes, businesses and churches in the area have now been completely leveled by the storm, leaving portions of the town utterly unrecognizable. The CNN anchor drove that home for his Twitter followers by posting a picture of what his old stomping grounds look like right now:

How important is it, we asked, to restore a sense of normalcy for Joplin’s residents? Holmes didn’t hesitate: “Vitally important. Joplin is a metropolis for the area. This is the economic hub, the engine for surrounding cities.” While Joplin may only boast around 50,000 permanent residents, that number shoots up during the week as people from surrounding towns commute to the city for work or school. So, he stressed, “Joplin needs to be okay.”

He shared that one hospital is still open and functioning, and that there’s an effort underway to provide medical attention for those who need it most. We wondered if charities and organizations like the Red Cross were making themselves available to pick up the resulting slack in the area. “From what I’ve been seeing, it’s mostly neighbors helping neighbors,” Holmes told us. “It renews your faith in people.”

Holmes also shared that he’s had the opportunity to speak one-on-one with several of the town’s residents, many of whom have incredible survival stories. One family, he told us, withstood the storm outdoors as it quite literally passed over their heads. They had knocked on a neighbor’s door, seeking a safer place to wait out the storm, only to find that the family inside had already barricaded themselves within the basement. So, what’s a family stuck outside during a massive tornado to do? Why, crouch down next to the front door and pray, hard. Against all odds, the family emerged from the experience relatively unscathed… although, unfortunately, the same couldn’t be said for their home. Another woman told him how she had escaped the path of the storm simply by stepping from one side of the street to the other.

But, despite the devastation and all the work that remains to be done in order to get Joplin fully functioning once again, Holmes says the town’s residents are “in good spirits.”

As we thanked Holmes for his time and said our good-byes, he urged us not to forget this story in a week’s time: “Two weeks from now, I want you to stay on it.”

The magazine broached another contentious and persistent criticism the Huffington Post has been contending with since it’s inception, and especially in the wake of its deal with Aol:

You’ve been saying recently that The Huffington Post is not a lefty publication?

Actually I’ve been saying that for three years. The tag line that we’ve used a lot is “Beyond left and right.”

Three years ago was 2008. I looked at The Huffington Post a great deal during the election. It felt like the Internet version of Keith Olbermann’s show, and if that’s not lefty. . . .

Why don’t you be more specific? What were the messages that you considered lefty?

While Huffington doesn’t deny that her site clearly has “progressive views,” she believes the term “lefty” misses, as she phrases it, “the whole point that American policy needs to be redefined beyond left and right” – an argument she’s repeated the many, many times she’s been asked this very question since news of the $315 million Aol deal first broke.

The interview, which seems designed around repeating the string of critiques and accusations Huffington and HuffPost have received over the years, also asked Huffington about a leaked Aol document emphasizing, basically, “pageview fodder.” Huffington, no stranger to going after headlines that are particularly sensational and search engine friendly, wisely noted that this document precedes her dealings with Aol.

And then there’s this…

I look at your writers much less than I find myself clicking on stuff that’s been aggregated or the more salacious, boob-related posts.

That’s really a shame. I think you’re missing out. Jason Linkins is doing some of the best media writing. Amanda Terkel’s coverage of Afghanistan has been ahead of the curve. Shahien Nasiripour has been breaking news constantly on Wall Street reform. Maybe you should be reading more of that and clicking less on the boobs.

While some of Huffington’s critics might be clapping in delight over the NYT‘s decidedly pointed questions, the fact remains that Huffington is no fool and, what’s more, these questions, while phrased in such a way that basically ensures the original story will be widely quoted, shared and, yes, aggregated, are nothing new.

The Huffington Post is often made to be whipping boy of sites that feature a mix of aggregated stories, op-ed articles and original reporting because it’s so damn successful – and because its founder, while controversial, is terribly charismatic. This isn’t to say that HuffPost is either an inherently benevolent or malignant force when it comes the changing nature of online news… but neither is the New York Times, especially where its treatment of Huffington and the Huffington Post are concerned.

h/t The New York Times

On The Factor this evening, Bill O’Reilly commented on comments made (often about other comments) about his Super Bowl Sunday interview with President Barack Obama, including “pal” Bill Maher‘s assessment that his conduct was “unpatriotic.”

O’Reilly told viewers that “as he predicted,” “extremists” on both ends of the political spectrum took issue with the interview, with those on the far right seeking to disparage the President at every turn, and those on the far left fearing their loss of power. (Who is on the far right? “Listen to talk radio” and you’ll find out, advises O’Reilly. Now, whom could he possibly mean?)

O’Reilly comically predicted that, by tomorrow, people will be reporting that he “bound and gagged” the President during his interview. He added that, in reality, the interview served to position Fox News as a “credible and serious” news source – which is something that obviously won’t sit well with everyone sitting on the sidelines.

He brought on conservative radio host Laura Ingraham to further weigh in on the reaction to the interview and to discuss O’Reilly’s opinion that the interview elevates Fox News in the eyes of its critics:

O’Reilly said while he “sympathizes” with the president, he also thinks POTUS “still has a thin skin.”

An additional ten minutes of the interview will air tonight on The O’Reilly Factor. As for the varying takes on the interview and who prevailed, O’Reilly said he skipped most of the political fallout on the blogosphere today. Why? “I don’t like to read the blogs because a lot of those people are mentally ill who write them.” O’Reilly did “sample” a few reviews of his interview, and said they largely fell along predictable lines: people who support the president felt O’Reilly was rude or excessively tough, and those who oppose the president say O’Reilly was “too soft.”

British star Lily Allen isn’t interested in talking to Piers Morgan–either on his new CNN show Piers Morgan Tonight, or on his British show Life Stories–but she’s willing to negotiate. Allen, who went to Twitter to suggest “the terms” of her sitting for an interview, says it would cost “£1 million,” donated to “a charity that helps women overcome the kind of grief that I have had to experience.”

Allen recently revealed she was six months’ pregnant when she miscarried last year.

Morgan, whose new American show debuts Monday, expressed his sympathy over Allen’s loss, but then attempted to negotiate her down a bit–working with UK network ITV to offer a “five figure” donation to a charity of her choice. As the Daily Mail reports today, the back-and-forth all played out in public on Twitter:

Lily posted: ‘Those are my terms. I’ve got no interest in coming on your show, you’ve been asking me for years.’

Piers replied: ‘If you’ve got no interest in coming on my show, why have we been negotiating for the last hour? Or are you just a tease?’

When Allen failed to respond, Morgan fired off one final tweet:

@lilyroseallen You’ll change your mind. They always do. Right, must dash- Clooney awaits

George Clooney is Morgan’s guest next Friday, following a first-week roster of guests including Oprah Winfrey, Condoleeza Rice, Ricky Gervais and Howard Stern.

The former governor’s name first became embroiled in coverage of the event when some in the media pointed out that an ad appearing on Palin’s Facebook page for SarahPAC featured crosshairs over Giffords’ district, among others. Could this sort of “violent” imagery and inflamed, vitriolic rhetoric so prevalent in government and on television have had something to do with the shooter’s motives?, several outlets kept asking.

Turns out that this isn’t something anyone can know for sure (although, increasingly, it seems rather unlikely), but that didn’t stop Palin’s name from popping up again and again. The attention led Palin to create a video addressing her critics and denouncing the act of doling out blame for an isolated act of violence. Additionally, conservative pundit Glenn Beck read an email response from Palin about the weekend’s events during his radio show, telling listeners that she believes “our children will not have peace if politicos just capitalize on this to succeed in portraying anyone as inciting terror and violence.”

Now, Palin is gearing up for her first extended interview since the weekend’s shooting. On Monday, she’ll sit down with Fox News Channel’s Sean Hannity – a wise choice for Palin given she is herself a Fox contributor.

The interview is set to air on NBC Nightly News this Thursday at 6:30 p.m. ET. According to a press release from NBC, the interview will show “exclusive details on Boehner’s recent transition to the most influential member of the 112th Congress, and the challenges ahead as he prepares to take on Obama’s Democratic policies.”

And that’s all well and good, of course, but Boehner attracts eyeballs (and, thus, either ratings or pageviews, depending on the medium) not only because he is stepping into an important, prestigious and influential role. There’s a lowest common denominator element at play in the attention surrounding Boehner as well, and, as such, the marauding bands want to know: Will Williams ask Boehner about “the whole crying thing”? The New York Times, for one, viewed the next Speaker of the House’s tears as an appropriate jumping off point to discuss the issue of crying and masculinity. And, well. Boehner’s noticeable tan. Other outlets, observing Boehner’s propensity to weep publicly, simply wondered whether he might have had too much to drink.

Stupid question or not (or is it true that there are no stupid questions, only stupid answers?), the issue of Boehner’s tears ties into the way politicians and other public figures are expected to act, and how the media is anticipated to weigh in. During her bid to become president of the United States, Hillary Clinton‘s tears (and her laughter) were, for better or worse, the stuff of headlines and photo captions, and deemed by a whole slew of news outlets, print and web alike, both respected and… not… as not only an interesting talking point, but one that was important and relevant to her role as a politician and public figure. So it’ll be interesting to see whether Williams will deem Boehner’s tears – and the impetus behind them – a legitimate topic of conversation as he steps ever further into the spotlight.

“I never expected the night would unfold the way it did,” said Anderson, who claims Sheen threatened to kill her, and called her a “whore.” “He definitely was growing more intense as the night grew and went on. It’s hard to say being that it was my first time hanging out with him if it was normal of his everyday behavior or not,” Anderson said. “”He seemed like a very egotistical person.”

Anderson’s lawyer, Keith Davidson, told GMA Anderson would be headed to the NYPD later Monday. “She’s filing a police report against Mr. Sheen.”

Anderson also reveals Sheen sent her a text message after the incident and–she says–offered $20,000 for her silence. “Just to not talk to anybody about it and go about my business,” she said.

Anderson will continue her two-show ABC interview on Nightline tonight. Watch the GMA interview, via ABC News:

After being a guest on the Daily Show and openly being a big fan for so long, she finally has the opportunity to discuss with Stewart his role in the greater political arena. But as exciting as tomorrow’s talk is for her, it isn’t exciting enough for any of the ads her crew came up with, apparently taking a page out of Don King‘s promo book.

Brainstorming ideas for advertising the interview, Maddow’s chief promoter compared the event to Ali-Frasier or Leonard-Duran II, going in for the battle angle. Maddow seemed perplexed by the idea, her excitement turning into mild unease at the prospect of the interview being more of a fight than a talk. The mild unease became outright bewildered confusion at the branding in the first promo presented to her, an explosion-laden violent spectacular entitled “The Brawl For It All.” This idea was vehemently rejected, though the aesthetic remained through several further incarnations with slightly modified rhetoric, until “The Brawl For It All” somehow became “He’s Going To Be A Guest On Her Show.”

Maddow is clearly exuberant about her opportunity to sit down with Stewart, as she should be– she’s flying high on the ratings front and, with Stewart’s blessing, has become the go-to spot for A-list interviews on MSNBC. Apparently learning of them for the first time, Helen reacts tearfully to a quote from President Obama.

Host Scott Spears informs Helen that the President called her remarks “offensive and out of line,” and a taken aback Helen asks “Through a spokesman?”

Spears responds that the President made the comment himself in a Today show interview. Here’s Helen’s gut-wrenching reaction:

Apparently, Helen was heretofore only aware of comments by White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs on the day of Helen’s retirement, which is where she gets the “reprehensible” reference from. Learning of the rebuke from the President himself obviously affected her deeply.

Here’s the President’s quote from that Today Show interview:

They should go home… [to] Poland, Germany.”)

Today, though, Thomas told her side of the story in a 35-minute radio interview with Ohio station WMRN-AM. The interview was taped last week, and aired this morning. As the AP reports, she responded in one word when asked whether she’s anti-Semitic: “Baloney!” Though really, how else would she react? “Yes, I’m against Israel and the Jewish people?”

In any case, Thomas certainly doesn’t regret what she said in June; she told interviewer Scott Spears that her remarks represented “exactly what I thought,” and that she retired because she knew after making them her career would be over: “I hit the third rail. You cannot criticize Israel in this country and survive.”

Thomas got in another dig at the Jewish State later in the interview, when she said that she apologized for her remarks because she thought they had hurt people. But, as she went on, “At the same time, I had the same feelings about Israel’s aggression and brutality.”

The interview also covered other topics, such as Thomas’s thoughts on Christine O’Donnell (“Frightening”) and Sarah Palin (whose hypothetical presidency would be “a tragedy, a national tragedy”).

Though Thomas wants to be remembered for “my integrity and my honesty and my belief in good journalism,” chances are her reputation will always be tarnished—especially since she doesn’t appear very remorseful. In some ways, this is certainly a shame; a trailblazer like Thomas deserves to be celebrated. On the other hand, what the reporter said in June undeniably crossed the line. She shouldn’t be given a free pass just because she helped break through a glass ceiling.

Here’s the full 35-minute interview:

And here’s video of the remarks that prompted Thomas to retire:

Gay Pride Month culminates this weekend with Pride Weekend festivities around the country. Here in New York, the annual Pride Parade will march through lower Manhattan on Sunday, and this is a big one – Monday marks the 40th anniversary of the very first Gay Pride March in the city, which took place exactly one year after the Stonewall Riots in Greenwich Village.

In celebration of Gay Pride Month and in honor of this important anniversary, Mediaite contributor Robert Newman arranged a series of magazine covers – each “featuring an artist, personality, historical event, or publication of significance in gay history” – and released one per day throughout the month of June on his Newmanology facebook page. Here are some of the highlights from the collection:

The Furies, August 1972. “Lesbian/Feminist Monthly”

This cover from The Furies is today’s entry into the gallery. It only had nine issues, but the magazine was an important part of the lesbian feminist population growing in the early 1970s. In the first issue, the authors wrote that “lesbianism is not a matter of sexual preference, but rather one of political choice which every woman must make if she is to become woman-identified and thereby end male supremacy.”

Time, April 14, 1997. Ellen DeGeneres says, “Yep, I’m Gay.”

Probably the most widely recognized of all the self-outing magazine covers, Ellen‘s appearance on the cover of Time to announce she’s gay opened the door for numerous celebrities to follow in her footsteps. Newmanology put together a side gallery specifically dedicated to the “Yep, I’m Gay”-style cover, featuring celebrities from Lance Bass to Albus Dumbledore.

Interview, December 1972. Andy Warhol and model Naomi Simms.

Andy Warhol, one of the first openly gay American artists, started Interview in 1969, and the entertainment magazine has continued from its inception to feature gay and lesbian-themed content.

After Dark, February 1977. Arnold Schwarzenegger.

After Dark was not designated as a gay publication, but according to Newmanology, this 70s-era entertainment magazine “covered stories of interest to the gay community, carried ads for gay movies, bathhouses, clubs, books, etc., and had a liberal amount of beefcake and male nudity.” Behind this cover, muscleman-turned-actor-turned-governor Arnold Schwarzenegger was featured in a 22-page photo spread, complete with frontal nudity.

Blueboy, June 1977. “The National Magazine About Men.”

Speaking of beefcake, this cover of Blueboy shows how softcore pornographic magazines for gay men developed a mainstream following in the 70s, much like straight counterpart Playboy. And, like Playboy, the magazine included content other than just nudie pics, like essays and interviews. As evidenced by her song “She Bop,” Cyndi Lauper was a devoted fan.

The Advocate, March 5, 1996. Barbara Jordan.

Barbara Jordan, the first African American woman from the South to join Congress who was known for her passionate speeches, never came out publicly. It was only after her death in 1996 that her lesbianism and companionship with another woman, with whom she shared a home, was revealed in this issue of The Advocate.

Christopher Street, January 1978. “Interview with Gore Vidal.”

Newmanology writes that Christopher Street, which ran from 1976 until 1995, “was one the most important national gay publications in its early days, filled with discussions of issues of importance to the gay community, as well as fiction, essays, reviews, and art and photography.” It was also the first gay publication with high-level graphics and design.

One, August 1953. “Homosexual Marriage?”

Remembering the time before the 1969 Stonewall Riots (when gay and lesbian publications were hidden, low-budget journals) Newmanology also has a gallery of magazine covers dating back to the 1950s. Publications like One were the victims of harsh censorship, and their editors and contributors were forced to adopt pen names to avoid being harassed or slapped with criminal charges. This issue of One, which included an article on gay marriage, was seized by the Los Angeles post office for three weeks.

Stories about gay rights might be popping up all over the media these days, but Newmanology’s tribute to Gay Pride Month is a welcome reminder that gays and lesbians have maintained their presence in the media for decades, often forging new journalistic paths in the face of adversity. And that’s something to be proud of.

This is just but a brief sampling – there are many more on the original collection, which you can check out here: Newmanology on Facebook

Remember two days ago when some in the media were panicking that the American-dream-gone-wrong that is Orly Taitz would become an official Republican Party candidate? That actually happened, except it happened to the Democrats, with Alvin Greene. Greene, an unemployed Air Force veteran with no known ties to politics, is now the official Democratic Senate candidate in his state after winning 59% of the vote in the state’s primary. He will be facing incumbent Senator Jim DeMint in November. Now that it’s time for him to meet the press, he’s having trouble answering hardball questions like “What kind of campaigning did you do?”

Talking Points Memo has uncovered a couple of interviews with Greene since the election, both of which seem to have more of an MTV Cribs air to them than an interview with a major party’s Senate candidate. In this interview with ABC News, Greene asserts several times that his victory with 59% of the vote against someone with a political career “is not luck. If it was 51%, then maybe it would be luck. But 60% of the vote is no accident.” He then declines to answer any questions about his felony charge (he is charged with showing a University of South Carolina student “obscene photos”), and shows the interviewer his baby picture in lieu of a photo that would prove he was actually in the military (ABC News reports he was “involuntarily forced out… because ‘things just weren’t working… it was hard to say.’”):

Ok, so let’s take him at his word: his victory isn’t luck. In this interview– apparently taped on the same day– with local NBC affiliate WCSC, Greene is asked to back up that claim. If it wasn’t luck, then what was it– “how did you campaign?” His answer involved mostly shuffling his feet, asking if he could end the interview, and, later, “we campaigned all across the state.” While his platform is about as murky as how he became a major party candidate in the first place, he clarifies here that his priorities are “jobs, education, and… justice.” And, um, offshore drilling.

The Democrats have now asked Greene to step aside, with some in the party suggesting he is a Republican “plant” (and if he’s not, then what is the matter with S.C.?) Greene has stood his ground and claims he thinks he’s got what it takes to dethrone DeMint, but he’s going to need a gigantic, out-of-nowhere, Marco Rubio-sized push to get him there, complete with several extensive, nationally-televised interviews that happen to go well and a lot more money than the $10,000 or so that he somehow managed to pony up for the primary. And it doesn’t seem his barely-there platform is inspiring anyone to back him– anti-incumbency fever can only get you so far.

That was overt this afternoon in Detroit Tigers pitcher Armando Galarraga, who was deprived of a perfect game by an umpire mistake Commissioner Bud Selig refused to amend.

At first, it seemed it was all coming back to Galarraga as he told CNN anchor Richard Lui to give him a moment to answer how he felt about the situation. But when he was asked how umpire Jim Joyce felt, he said, “I’m sure that guy felt worse than me, twenty times.” He felt it in his body language and his face, and said he didn’t keep any hard feelings because “he’s a professional, I’m a professional.” But he will tell his son that his daddy pitched a perfect game.
