Citizen Journalists Win Polk Award for Footage of Neda Agha-Soltan

Yesterday, Long Island University announced the winners of the 2009 George Polk Award, an annual honor for excellence in journalism. And in addition to the regular heavy-hitters, they also recognized the anonymous men and women that filmed the death of Iranian protester Neda Agha-Soltan. This marks the first time that citizen journalists have received such a traditional, industry-recognized honor. And as a result, it’s a really freaking big deal.

CNN Airs Video Puportedly Showing Iranian Police Running Over Prostester

Amateur video of an Iranian police vehicle plowing into a crowd of protesters has emerged from the recent unrest in Tehran. CNN aired the clip, warning viewers of the graphic nature of the video, which underscores the current level of political chaos and disorder in Iran. Andrew Sullivan recently noted that a jet for Iranian supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei is on standby, perhaps indicating that regime change might actually be closer than previously thought:
