One of the relatively “bright” spots to come out of this week’s discussion of gay marriage for Mitt Romney is that he has at least been getting credit for being “fine” with gay couples adopting children. However, a new video out from progressive SuperPAC American Bridge casts some doubt on the depth of that conviction, featuring clips of Romney arguing against gay parenting, even as compared with one live and one dead straight parent.

With all the recent surge in coverage of Rick Santorum following his Iowa success and the ongoing focus on his “Google problem,” it’s interesting to remember that that…other definition of the candidate’s last name was coined all the way back in 2003, when the White House was just a glint in the Senator’s eye. More than ever, though, the issue and definition is in the news and in his weekly column this week, the man behind the “santorum” (and wouldn’t anyone love that title?), Dan Savage, defended the coinage and its continued importance.

When Stephen Colbert takes a break from being “Stephen Colbert,” he’ll do things like participate in the “It Gets Better” campaign aimed at giving encouragement to LGBT youth facing bullying and discrimination.

In his video message to teens, Colbert drew on his own experiences with being bullied, sharing that, while straight, he also dealt with homophobic remarks made at his expense.

Real Time host Bill Maher thought he had a good soundbite when he compared Congressional Republicans to late Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, but was quickly one-upped by “It gets better” LGBT activist Dan Savage, who said “Unfortunately not exactly like him. I wish they were all f**kin’ dead.”

President Obama has joined the growing ranks of public personalities who have taped a personal message of “it gets better” in support of gay teens. The It Gets Better Project is a campaign started by Dan Savage, a Seattle-based columnist as a response to a string of recent teen suicides reportedly as a result of getting bullied for being gay. Thus far numerous entertainment and political luminaries have recorded messages including Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, and Ellen Degeneres among hundreds of others.

The It Gets Better Project has been a tremendous viral success with tons of videos being uploaded including those by the folks at Google and a Texas councilman. Hillary Clinton added her name to the list yesterday, releasing a new video entitled “Tomorrow Will Be Better” just in time for Spirit Day.
