Rick Perry‘s devastating fifth-place finish in the Iowa caucus, despite his early buzz and spending the most money in the state prompted CNN political commentator James Carville to call his campaign the worst in American history. “Rick Perry is the worst presidential campaign, candidate in American history,” Carville boldly declared, spurring loud disagreement with his fellow panelists.

Herman Cain‘s complete mind lapse on Libya today seems to have raised more eyebrows than even his sexual harassment scandal, but at least one news anchor is willing to give him the benefit of the doubt. On her program today, Erin Burnett offered that she, for one, did not believe he knew nothing about Libya, but that “his mind is so busy with what’s going on and he’s so exhausted…that he’s not able to function anymore.

Democratic strategist James Carville appeared on Good Morning America this morning to assess the current crop of front runners in the GOP presidential field and was not shy in his both predictable and entertainingly harsh criticism of his ideological foes. Herman Cain and Mitt Romney were both targeted, but it was Texas Governor Rick Perry, who has seen a rather enormous dip in recent polls, that received the most merciless review.

Like most of the media this week, Bill Maher and his Real Time panel last night spent a great deal of time trying to explain the reasons why the Arizona shootings last week occurred. And while it was clear that Jared Loughner committed the acts because of mental problems, the question was why people like him turn to violence in the first place. One suggestion Maher put on the table: America’s lack of universal health care.

A few days ago, James Carville resuscitated a 2008 campaign joke about the respective number of testicles President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton possess. This joke was about as well-received as it was in 2008 (not at all), and Carville visited John King USA to explain just how much he didn’t regret it. This apparently wasn’t enough, however, as he took his case to Anderson Cooper last night, as well, and was just as unapologetic.

It was clear who James Carville supported during the 2008 Democratic primary, squarely for Sen. Hillary Clinton over Sen. Barack Obama.

So how much has changed? After telling an old campaign joke, Carville went on CNN to reiterate “I’m not sorry and I don’t apologize.”

Another thing I talked about with former CNN/U.S. President Jon Klein yesterday was his reaction to a very positive quote from Fox News Chairman and CEO Roger Ailes.

It was particularly interesting as Ailes’ network and Klein himself have had quite a rocky relationship – at least until Klein officially was no longer at the helm of fellow cable news outlet CNN.

As much as the Dems like to scoff (one might even say ‘refudiate’) at the idea of Sarah Palin as a serious political force that must be reckoned with, they apparently take her seriously enough to use her as way to motivate Dems to donate.

Talk about strange bedfellows: When today’s O’Reilly Factor “Pinheads and Patriots” promo showcased James Carville and Jude Law, it seemed pretty obvious, based on previous experience, who would win which award– the mystery of Jude Law’s appearance notwithstanding. But tonight, Bill O’Reilly threw us a curveball, giving the colorful Carville the “Patriot” award for “his candor and looking out for the folks of the Gulf Coast.”

Well James Carville is at it again – blasting the Obama administration for policies that he feels “are killing the economy” in the Gulf Coast. The Louisiana native and Democratic strategist who worked closely with the Clinton administration has not demurred in his criticisms of how the current White House has handled the BP Oil Disaster.

This past weekend on Meet the Press, WH Press Secretary Robert Gibbs “stated the obvious” when he claimed that there “are enough seats in play” for the GOP to take the House this November. This, in turn, lead to House Majority Leader Nancy Pelosi to reportedly call Gibbs “political inept” for the untoward remark. This story came up on Good Morning America, and Democratic strategist James Carville revealed that the Dems may need to rely on a higher authority to maintain a majority in the house.

New Orleans Federal Judge Martin Feldman just lifted the controversial six-month ban on offshore drilling imposed by the Obama administration following the BP spill in the Gulf. The residents of the embattled Gulf will likely be happy to hear this — many in the Gulf region from Gov. Bobby Jindal to James Carville have argued that the ban imposes unnecessary hardship on an economy that is already suffering due to lost revenue from the spill.

As much as any public figure Democratic strategist James Carville can probably take credit for leading the charge against the Obama administration’s apparent lack of action in the first weeks of the BP oil spill. Carville told GMA‘s George Stephanopoulos this morning that he thinks Obama’s address from the Oval Office tomorrow night (his first) is a chance for him to “hit the reset button.”

He went one-on-one with Bill O’Reilly on a number of topics– the oil spill, the Joe Sestak job scandal, Sarah Palin‘s new neighbors– and not only managed to take a pretty hilarious stab at James Cameron, he got O’Reilly to use his best Cajun accent, too.

Former Democratic strategist and CNN analyst James Carville has been making a lot of noise against the White House for not getting the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico– near Carville’s Louisiana home– under control for the past couple of weeks, but until now has not been referenced by the White House directly. Now, Press Secretary Robert Gibbs has responded, saying that he doesn’t “understand all of what we’re doing.”

Perhaps Chris Matthews started worrying he was being outshined in the tirade department by James Carville. Just ahead of President Obama’s press conference earlier today Matthews went on his own rant about how the Louisiana coast line is “part of our birthright, with the Grand Canyon, with Niagara Falls, with Yosemite.” And then he directed this zinger at Obama.
