Piers Morgan isn’t making any qualms about the fact that his aborted interview with Christine O’Donnell has left a mark. In fact, he dedicated an entire segment of his program last night to understanding what had happened and, more importantly, whether he himself was sexist. Fortunately for Morgan, his panel– attorney Gloria Allred, Mediaite Editor-At-Large Rachel Sklar, and Time‘s James Poniewozik– seemed to agree that, for once, this wasn’t his fault.

When the Dominique Strauss-Kahn scandal broke in May, many reporters tried to bring the story home for Americans by comparing it to Arnold Schwarzenegger‘s revelation that he’d fathered a love child. With DSK back in the news this week after new reports that he may be innocent after all, pundits are again drawing parallels to another case being discussed, that of Casey Anthony. “Combined with the seeming collapse of the Dominique Strauss-Kahn case, the shock showed a press quick to jump to conclusions, if not about actual guilt, then at least about guilty verdicts,” TIME‘s James Poniewozik said, upon the conclusion of the Anthony trial this week. What do these two stories really have in common with each other?

If one believes that the cable news landscape is symptomatic of our two-party political system, then one also probably and predictably saw a different tone in last nights election results. Fox News presented its coverage with a patina of celebration, while MSNBC’s took a more gloom and doom approach. But there was one important distinction between the two outlets: Fox News offered a far more balanced set of analysts for the election coverage than did MSNBC.

Presumably the Juan Williams mania will die down enough this week that everyone can return to obsessing over Jon Stewart‘s Rally to Restore Sanity this Saturday. On Reliable Sources yesterday Time television critic (and friend of Mediaite Office Hours) James Poniewozik weighed in.

Goldberg described it as “pathetic:”

The Washington Post became the largest name in news to issue guidelines about acceptable use of social networking platforms, namely Twitter and Facebook. But when paidContent ran the rules in their entirety, it fueled a firestorm against the policies on the web. Today, the Post‘s Howard Kurtz responds, but seems hesitant and provides little convincing support for the rules.
