Obama: Fox News Has A Point Of View That Is ‘Ultimately Destructive’ For The Country

President Obama has given a lengthy interview to Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner for the upcoming issue of the magazine. The cover story is titled “Obama Fights Back” and boy does he ever. At least where Fox News is concerned. Here’s what he told Wenner regarding the network in what I think could be fairly termed a battle cry of sorts.

The Women of The Daily Show vs. Jezebel

Who’s right? Who’s wrong? Who’s a clawing, cat-fighting bitch? No one. They’re both right: The women of the Daily Show have an awesome job, at an awesome place, and do awesome work. But the male/female ratio on late-night comedy shows is not awesome. Which Jezebel was 100% right to examine.

“Rolling STONE?!?” How Soon The Pundits Forget

Newsflash: Rolling Stone has been doing war reporting – and political reporting, business reporting, news reporting – for decades now. And they’ve got the Ellies to prove it.

Anderson Cooper And Rachel Maddow Top Out’s Power List

out

Out magazine’s annual list of the most influential gays and lesbians has been announced and CNN’s Anderson Cooper again tops the list of media names, coming third for the second year in a row. Although Cooper and fellow power-lister blogger Matt Drudge (he dropped from 6th to 15th) have never publicly acknowledged being gay, that doesn’t stop Out from consistently counting the two men–as well as actress Jodie Foster–when tallying who is gay and lesbian.

Aiming for Relevance? Rolling Stone to Re-Launch Website

When the Internet became a viable communications platform in the late 90s, magazine visionary Jann Wenner was eager to play it safe, licensing his brand to Real Networks, a partner more experienced with the online world. Well now that relationship is over, as Rolling Stone has announced plans to take control of their own online destiny. Is it too late to capture relevance in the crowded online music space?

Was Janice Min Overrated? Us Weekly Doing Great Under Acting Successor

Women’s Wear Daily reports that Us Weekly had a fine first week under Michael Steele, who filled in as the magazine’s acting editor-in-chief after Janice Min‘s departure in July. Steele’s first issue as acting EIC, which featured a cover story on Bachelorette cheating drama, “sold 1.1 million copies, outpacing Us Weekly’s single-copy sales by an average of 843,470 for the first half of 2009.”

One issue does not make a mandate, but it looks like Jann Wenner may have been right when he wagered that Us Weekly could flourish without Min.

Us Weekly Belt Got Too Tight for Min, WWD Reports

Turns out that money was the deciding factor behind Janice Min’s exit from Us Weekly, or so reports Women’s Wear Daily. Given that Min probably wouldn’t be able to pull down as much money at her next job (career?), everyone is still wondering where does she go after this?

US Weekly’s Janice Min to Staff: “I’m Leaving”

The publishing world was abuzz yesterday wondering whether Min would soon be leaving the top spot of the wildly popular US Weekly magazine as her current contract comes to an end. Rumors were dismissed as a tactic for renegotiating her contract that was set to expire in two weeks. Late last night (East Coast time) Janice Min announced she was resigning her post as editor of US Weekly and Mediaite has her resignation letter in full.

Vibe Folds: Music Mag Death Knell?

Citing a tough ad market and an evolving music world, Vibe folded yesterday, which raised the question of which music magazine is safe these days? First it was Blender, then Vibe. In the age of digital downloads, iTunes and Pitchfork Media, is this a relevant business model anymore? Who will be next to go under?
