Mitt Romney was off to a bad start this morning, as he began the day telling CNN’s Soledad O’Brien that he was “not concerned about the very poor.” Jon Stewart happened upon this clip in horror, trying to understand what Romney was getting at. The best he could do was to imagine Romney as a doctor unconcerned about the “very sick because, you know, morphine.”

Like many who woke up this morning to the news that Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell was history, Jon Stewart spent some time celebrating the aftermath of the repeal. Calling the policy “ridiculous,” Stewart turned to Jason Jones for his military analysis, who, regaled in short-shorts and drinking a fancy pink cocktail, tried to make the news exciting but couldn’t find a way to make it seem particularly eventful, other than the poignant coming out moments today has produced.

John Oliver joined with fellow The Daily Show correspondents Wyatt Cenac, Aasif Mandvi, Samantha Bee and Jason Jones to discuss how a two-party system works (or how it doesn’t, as the case may be).

Oliver answered the question of whether this system is healthy: Short answer? “No.” Longer answer? “No, it isn’t. It isn’t healthy at all.”

Here’s something to make you long for the days when Janet Jackson‘s jeweled nipple cause national uproars. In what would have otherwise been a comparatively humdrum field piece on the Daily Show ripping from the classic reporter health exposé of the Katie Couric colonoscopy variety, reporter Jason Jones let the Daily Show in on his vasectomy procedure, and aired it all to prove “children”– the disease– can be stopped.

Various members of the Palin family have been in the news for many reasons lately, including Bristol (for Dancing With The Stars controversies and PSAs with The Situation), Willow (for Facebook fighting), and, of course, Sarah (for SPAlaska). Jon Stewart couldn’t let any of that go without comment, and used a segment on last night’s Daily Show to take a look at the craziness.

The Daily Show’s “Rally To Restore Sanity Bus” series concluded last night with another clip praising political moderation—though this one also featured a few special guests.

Last night’s episode of The Daily Show revisited the “Rally to Restore Sanity Bus,” a vessel ferrying six randomly chosen viewers to Jon Stewart’s rally this Sunday. Just like the clip that aired on Monday, Tuesday’s segment focused on how reasonable the bus riders were, despite their differing political views—and despite correspondents Jason Jones and John Oliver trying to goad them into shouting at each other, since loud arguments mean good TV. (After all, said Jones, “Agree to disagree is not a television show!”)

More than half a century later, the journalists of The Daily Show have uncovered the real reason for the inhuman cruelty of the Third Reich: every last one of those Nazis was gay. Or at least that’s what Scott Lively, the president of the organization Defend the Family, contends. In search of the truth, Jason Jones went deep into the heart of New York’s gay community to find evidence for Lively’s argument.

Back in June The Daily Show sent correspondent Jason Jones to Iran just ahead of the elections to film a series of “funny” spots about how the country was dealing with the election. One of Jones’ subjects happened to be Maziar Bahari, the Newsweek reporter who was shortly thereafter jailed and held captive for 188 days. Bahari was finally released last month. Was The Daily Show in part to blame for Bahari’s imprisonment?

Where were you a year ago today? If you are a political journalist — or media hanger-on — chances are you were living out of a suitcase at the 2008 Presidential Conventions, with the Dems nominating Barack Obama in Denver and the GOP nominating John McCain in Minneapolis/St. Paul. Remember those heady days?

All this week The Daily Show is featuring Jason Jones “live” from Iran. The Times reported this development on their Arts Beat blog under the hed “Daily Show Sends Reporter to Iran.” Dig a little deeper however and you will soon realize that it’s not so much ‘sends’ as sent.

Twitter was abuzz yesterday with word that The Daily Show had been allowed inside the hallowed halls of the New York Times. Would the Times be ripped to shreds? Would the staff fall for the devious interviewers and make fools of themselves? Not so much.
