“We’re here on Fox News,” Springer began. “Every single day, in fairness, you guys, every single day, bash President Obama. Every day!”

“I’m going to take you to task on that. I’m going to take you to task on that,” Fox & Friends co-host Gretchen Carlson replied. “Because on this panel right here, we have a fair and balanced panel right here. And I’m the independent.”

“For this panel!” Springer continued. “What’s the rest of the show? The rest of the show, every single morning, you guys are slamming Obama. You know you are. And I’m not saying you don’t have a right to, but every single conversation is something bad about Obama.”

At this point, an oblivious panel member interjected, making some unnecessary point that took Springer and Carlson off-track. But Carlson returned to dress down Springer before cutting to a break:

“And, by the way, Jerry,” an angry Carlson said, “you obviously don’t watch our show, because you do not understand that there’s a reason — I’ll speak for myself, I sit in the middle, as the independent on the panel — and quite frankly, we present both sides of the story and we leave it up to our viewers to decide where they fall.”

Watch a clip of the heated moment below, courtesy of Fox News:

Is Obama losing the Jewish vote? Probably not, says provocateur and American Jew, Jerry Springer. "Look, come on, Perry?" he begged on a Fox and Friends this morning, where he joined Gretchen Carlson, Big Hollywood's Larry O'Connor and country music singer Billy Dean on a "Special Political Panel" to discuss the much coveted "Jewish vote."

Probably not, says provocateur and American Jew, Jerry Springer. ”Look, come on, Perry,” he begged on a Fox and Friends this morning, where he joined Gretchen Carlson, Big Hollywood’s Larry O’Connor and country music singer Billy Dean on a “Special Political Panel” to discuss the much coveted “Jewish vote.” Springer is confident that President Obama‘s handling of the Israel-Palestine situation will not cause him the Jewish vote in the 2012 race, and that Bob Turner‘s unprecedented Republican win in New York’s overwhelmingly Jewish 9th district is not representative of the broader, Jewish American community. “Overall, American Jews tend to be more progressive, more liberal, so [Obama] will probably still get the vote,” he predicts.

Springer insists that the Democrats loss in the the much ballyhooed 9th District race does not bode for President Obama. “The 9th district is a little bit different in terms of other Jewish communities in America,” Springer said, pointing out the high percent of orthodox voters in the community that are closely aligned with Israel’s conservative Likud party.

Mostly, Springer’s worried about the alternative. “Look, come on, Perry,” he argues. “We can argue whether he did a good job in Texas, but he’s in charge of our foreign policy?” O’Connor — who worked on Broadway and hence fancies himself an expert on all things jewish and gay, he says — suggests that this argument doesn’t necessarily lend much Jewish confidence to the Democratic party, and he likens the Jewish voters to the woman in a Springer joke wherein she keeps returning to a man who treats her poorly.

Eitherway, it sounds like Obama’s got Springer’s jewish vote: ”I am very happy as an American Jew, and I have family in Israel, I am very happy to support Obama,” he said.

Watch the “Special Panel” duke it out below:

Springer joined Sean Hannity and radio host Bill Cunningham for a spirited talk on President Obama’s tax policies and the extension of Bush tax cuts that, thanks to Cunningham, began on a high note: “Jerry, how could you even look yourself in the mirror after what you and your ilk have done to this city and this country?” It only gets better.

Springer responded jokingly to that question that he does, in fact, have trouble looking in the mirror, “but that’s just because of the way I look.” He then thanked Sean Hannity for “inviting me to the Republican Party Committee here,” and demanding that “people that are lucky enough to make an awful lot of money [should] pay a little bit more in taxes so that everyone in America could have health insurance, so that we have a stimulus program that works.” That kind of talk went exactly as you’d expect it to go on the set of Hannity.

“1660 Pennsylvania Avenue, you can donate all the money you want!” Hannity suggested, adding that he felt “overtaxed” and wasn’t about to jump to pay more money. Springer then tried to turn the Hannity crew against him, asking the host to “talk to the people running these cameras,” but Hannity quickly shot back “the people running these cameras love me!” Cunningham jumped in at that point, and took over for most of the segment while Hannity sat back and watched the show (and the program director brilliantly cut to the host occasionally as he surveyed the rhetorical landscape). The conversation then went everywhere– the war in Iraq, government workers, and “Jimmy Carter‘s third term.”

Jerry Springer appeared on Howard Stern’s radio show yesterday and the conversation got around to Air America. Stern then asked why liberal talk shows never do as well and Springer had an interesting answer: “Because the Liberals won.”

At first it seemed like Springer meant only in the very current spectrum which would make sense. Shows that adhere to one political ideology always seem to have better periods when the opposition is in power because, well, complaining makes for more compelling entertainment. While it obviously didn’t happened, there was definitely some concern that a show like The Daily Show, which does go after both sides but could never be mistaken for a “Conservative” show, would fail once George W. Bush was out of office.

However, it soon became clear that Springer was talking in much broader strokes:

“It doesn’t matter who’s president because the Liberals won. In the 1960s, all the protest was on the Left because America was conservative. We have conservative politicians, we give conservative speeches, but on every major issue the liberals have won. We are a liberal country. You can go into the most conservative neighborhood in America and, you go into their home, talk to their kids, and their kids listen to the same music, talk the same way, dress the same way. Culturally we’re liberal.”

Springer went on to point out how he did a show years ago about interracial marriage that was picketed and protested and that, now, we have an interracial president.

There are a couple of interesting points here. Obviously Stern’s original question always makes for good conversation but the idea that Liberals have “won” is an intriguing idea. However, I think Springer’s looking too broadly on this.

Liberals will always seem to come out on top on some issues because some change is simply inevitable. Just like the eventual acceptance of interracial marriage could have been predicted when Springer did that protested show, Liberals will also eventually be on the victorious side of the gay marriage issue (feel free to bet against it but you will lose your money). Change happens. It always will. The party that advocates progressive change will always win out some of the time so, if you cherry pick cultural things like that, then, yes, it will look like the Liberals have won.

However, if you were to travel back in time and talk to 60s progressives that Springer mentions, I’m sure they wouldn’t consider today’s society a 100% win. Obviously their minds would be blown when you mention a black president and female contenders, but how would they feel when you explained that they’d grow up and elect Ronald Reagan?

Still, an interesting idea from Springer who, of course, was a Democratic politician before he was the host of a show that proved that some people will never ceased to be amazed their spouse is cheating on them even after being invited on The Jerry Springer Show. While some progress is inevitable, some things never change.

Though Springer was there to plug his new dating show on the Game Show Network, Hannity went straight for the ambush and targeted Springer’s continued support for President Obama. When Springer emerged from that unscathed, Hannity switched the subject to health care, to which Springer was weirdly prepared — having said he regularly reads articles on the subject.

As the interview goes on, Hannity gets more animated — while Springer periodically puts on his calm “I’m listening” face that fans of trashy TV know and love.

In spite of Hannity making fun of Springer’s show format and saying he’s lost his mind, the interview ends with Springer offering his friendship and a peace sign. …which Hannity classily returns in a sarcastic manner.

So get this: a woman with two vaginas — that’s right, TWO VAGINAS — that’s right, vaginas, which is a naughty word — is appearing on The Tyra Show today, presumably to talk about the fact that she has two vaginas. Wait, why is this not-actually-all-that-rare condition getting so hyped up?

From the press release:

It’s a “Tyra Show” international exclusive, meet the woman who was born with two vaginas in an episode scheduled to air on Friday, November 6th. Lauren Williams, who is now 29 years old, was born with two vaginas…

Tyra Banks: “You’re the only pregnant woman that can get pregnant while pregnant.” Tune in to find out what sex is like for Lauren and what 2 vaginas looks like!

While the woman’s condition is fairly uncommon, it’s not so rare as to deservedly subject her to the full Tyra’s-astonished-facial-expression treatment (see photo, above left).

According to a 2001 medical journal article cited by Wikipedia, didelphic uterus, or the condition of having two uteruses & often two vaginas as well, occurs in 1/3,000 women. So: if there are 300 million people in the US and half of them are women, about 50,000 Americans have this rare and freakshowish disorder.

There are about 60,000 Americans with sickle cell anemia (1/5,000 among both sexes). That’s the same order of magnitude; when’s their Jerry Springer Show Tyra Show special?

Here’s a preview of the episode:

The sky is falling! Oprah‘s ratings are down 7% last season, and as is the case with all things, this must have something to do with Barack Obama, somehow. In an article about the ratings decline, the AP quotes an author who says that Oprah’s endorsement of Obama has hurt her in the heartland. David Carr follows suit on Media Decoder: he says that Oprah’s decline is “understandable against a backdrop of atomizing audiences,” but could be because she alienated part of her base by going political.

It’s a theory, but does it pass the sniff test?

Too often, when the AP writes about the stock market, they feel the annoying need to make every little blip and bloop “about” something that happened that day — when in fact, many are near-random fluctuations, or reflective of broader trends. It’s the same with TV ratings.

According to TVbytheNumbers, who should know about this sort of thing, “for a while, we were getting multiple requests a week to look at that data, and whenever we looked at it, we couldn’t come up with anything to actually support the case. At least unless we could somehow attribute decreases with Jeopardy and Wheel of Fortune to Oprah’s endorsement of Obama too.” You have to get to the fifth paragraph of the AP article to see that Jerry Springer, Maury Povich, and Martha Stewart all took double-digit tumbles last season.

A comparison: this Broadcasting & Cable article from February, right after the nomination, claims that Oprah’s support of Obama helped her ratings — even though oh yeah, lots of other top talk show hosts were experiencing similar gains at the time. Maybe… both of these Oprah fluctuations have something to do with talk shows in general?

The 9/12 crowd would love to take credit for the fall of a major TV icon that they don’t like and make puppeteering posters about (above). Maybe, in time, they’ll be able to make that claim. But until there’s hard proof that this is at all political and not, you know, about young people not watching her show because it’s really boring, let’s stick to the important things. Like making parody Tumblrs about Kanye’s VMA outburst.
