Hurricane Irene is slowly making its way through the eastern seaboard, and on Fox News today, Shepard Smith, who does not normally anchor on Saturdays, updated viewers on the latest on the scope of the hurricane and how it has impacted the region.

The New York Post is reporting tonight that American Morning co-host Kiran Chetry is leaving the morning show–and CNN. According to the story–citing “sources”–Chetry “was seen packing up her desk today” and plans to leave the network at the end of the month. In recent weeks, Chetry, who previously co-hosted AM with John Roberts (who himself left CNN for Fox News) has been part of a morning trio including Ali Velshi and Christine Romans.

CNN’s chief White House correspondent, has announced he’s leaving the network. In an email to CNN staff, Henry says he’s “landed a terrific opportunity elsewhere that I am absolutely thrilled about,” but does not say where he’s headed. Fox News confirms to Mediaite Henry will join the network as chief White House correspondent, following his colleague John Roberts, who left CNN for Fox back in January.

Henry’s contract with CNN was up. In a short statement, CNN says “we thank Ed for his contributions and wish him the best. We will be naming our new chief White House correspondent in the coming days.”

New Fox News correspondent John Roberts appeared with Don Imus this morning to share his views on being a new father and on the conflict in Libya. However, some of the most interesting parts were Imus trying to get Roberts to reveal his true thoughts about his former employer, CNN, and Roberts opening up about his awkward on-air moment scolding his American Morning co-host.

In an exclusive report, Fox News senior national correspondent John Roberts got to make a little broadcast history, becoming the first journalist to report live from inside the DEA’s command center in suburban Virginia, the “war room” where the DEA and other federal agencies coordinate drug raids all across the country, in Mexico and throughout Central and South America. The unparalleled access for Fox News comes as the DEA fights back against cartels suspected of killing a federal agent and severely injuring his partner. “The message being sent here today,” Roberts said, “is you hit us, we’re going to hit you back–hard.”

A few weeks ago, I discovered that CNN’s American Morning co-anchor Kiran Chetry has an unusually devoted fan base, who had a little panic attack when she took a couple of days off. Such intense loyalty deserves closer examination, so I visited the set of American Morning Friday morning, and later interviewed Kiran about her news-heavy morning show, journalism in general, and that John Roberts clip.

Ex-CNN anchor John Roberts has made his first appearance as a senior national correspondent for Fox, appearing Monday afternoon on Studio B with Shepard Smith.

Roberts, who CNN’s American Morning in December after three years on the morning shift, has relocated to Atlanta, where his fiancee CNN Kyra Phillips are preparing for the birth of twins.

The anticipated changes at CNN’s poorly-rated American Morning–including the departure of co-host John Roberts–were confirmed in a memo to staff from CNN boss Ken Jautz.

According to Jautz, Roberts will leave the show in the next few weeks and he’s expected to land in Atlanta in a reporting role. But the morning memo reveals more changes at AM, including the departure of executive producer Jamie Kraft, who’s headed to NBC Nightly News, and format changes designed to make the morning show “better suited to the morning and to better reflect the way people view news as they’re getting going with their day.”

Will the new year bring a slew of shakeups at CNN, now under new Ken Jautz-led management? The New York Post thinks so.

The Murdoch-owned tab says the head-rolling and chair-shifting will being in January, with American Morning co-host John Roberts first on the list to pick up a new gig, at least according to the Post‘s “insiders:

The average age of the Supreme Court is currently 64, a year shy of retirement age. Yet that’s still no excuse for the bench to be completely clueless when it comes to social media. So it was a bit disheartening when Justice Stephen Breyer revealed that he and his colleagues can’t quite grasp modern technology. A few people have asked us why no one’s written about this jaw-droppingly awkward interaction between American Morning co-anchors John Roberts and Kiran Chetry last week.

After some searching, we found what they were talking about. Wednesday morning, right before Roberts was set to interview David Axelrod, he sternly reprimanded her for some off-screen distraction.

After a lengthy set of Senate confirmation hearings and a 63-to-37 vote in her favor on Thursday, Elena Kagan has now officially become a member of the United States Supreme Court. She is the fourth woman to serve on the Court and the third to be joining the current bench.

Shirley Sherrod is angry and justifiably so. However, while some recipients of her scorn might not be entirely deserving, you can’t begrudge her for having a beef with Andrew Breitbart. Today on CNN’s American Morning, John Roberts and Kiran Chetry pressed Sherrod as to what she thinks the appropriate payback would be. After a little prodding from the CNN team, Sherrod didn’t mince words; she’d like BigGovernment shut down.

CNN anchor John Roberts spent time with BP COO Doug Suttles, on a chopper tour and on the oil rig, giving viewers an inside look at the spill and clean-up.

While the discussion was cordial, Roberts put Suttles on the spot on his own turf regarding the lack of BP transparency and more.

Campbell Brown is leaving CNN, but not before the network finds an 8pmET replacement.

With Brown out for part of this week and next week, let’s look at who’s filling in and speculate about whether that means they’re being considered for the slot!

While CNN’s prime time line-up continues to struggle in the ratings, sometimes finishing in fifth place on cable news behind even CNBC, their day time hours are solidly in 2nd place across the board (way behind Fox News).

But how about the three-hour morning block, American Morning? Multiple stories yesterday brought up the idea of changes at the program, and while CNN wasn’t talking, maybe it’s time for a change.

The gossip blog Radar Online released an exclusive report suggesting – complete with vagrant links leading to “Top Ten Celebrity Mugshots” and the Bristol Palin child support paperwork – that the resignation of Chief Justice John Roberts from the Supreme Court is imminent. It took about fifteen minutes for them to be forced into retracting the statement, but in exchange for some political credibility Radar won an all-important link on the Drudge Report and a small mention on Fox News, besides the internet wildfire of links all through the political blogosphere.

This ain’t no Joe Wilson moment. When you’re a Supreme Court justice and you quietly mouth back to a President during his first official State of the Union address the result is a lot of intellectual heavy weights using to oped pages to wrestle over the role of SCOTUS (does everybody now want to be a cable news talking head at heart?) and the appropriateness of the President challenging (threatening?) them in a one-sided public forum.

It’s a New Yecade! I am going to keep saying that until it catches on. But either way, we’re four days in and everything feels COMPLETELY DIFFERENT. Actually, and weirdly, it sort of does — maybe it’s because of all the decade-end stuff, but “2010″ looks, well, normal. Which is a very good sign. Which means we can now share all our shameful secrets from 2009. Like loving “Party In The USA.”
