Editor of the liberal magazine The Nation, Katrina vanden Heuvel expressed her disappointment with President Obama to the Morning Joe crew. She wondered why Obama was still sounding like “more of an educator-in-chief” trying to stay above the fray, when the progressive movement has been so desperate for him to seize this moment and to shape the debate on their terms.

Today on CNN’s Reliable Sources, Howard Kurtz, Katrina Vanden Heuvel, Ramesh Ponnuru and Alex Wagner discussed Sarah Palin’s recent openness in talking to reporters beyond Fox News. They discussed the interviews she has recently given to TIME, the New York Times Magazine, Good Morning America, and Barbara Walters.

Though Democrats around the country are hurting after last week’s midterm elections, the New York Times argues today that liberal magazines like The Nation may flourish in these times. Jeremy W. Peters reports that historically, the 146-year-old magazine has seen growth in circulation and revenue in times when liberals were the minority party in American politics — and so last week’s devastating election results may spell future growth for The Nation.

There was a lot going on on the Real Time panel last night, so much so that we may need another post to cover it. Besides the life and times of Sarah Palin, the eclectic crew– Atlantic senior editor Andrew Sullivan, Center for American Progress fellow Van Jones, and The Nation‘s Katrina Vanden Heuvel– had strong words on energy reform, the security crisis in the Middle East, and fighting wars.

Here’s a possible solution to the calamitous ratings slide happening over at CNN: hire George Will and Bill Maher to co-host some sort of prime time show. If today’s This Week roundtable was any measure it would certainly be must-see TV. Admittedly, it’s a bit of an unlikely bromance, but it made for fiery, and I would argue, really good television this morning.

The Founding Bloggers? Or an Internet tea party? Take your pick. This morning news broke that a group of “politically diverse group of [high profile] bloggers” were so impressed with last week’s question and answer session between President Obama and the House Republicans that they have banded together to call on the president and the Congress to make it a regular thing.

On today’s “This Week” roundtable, The Nation editor Katrina Vanden Heuvel invoked the term “tea-bagger,” prompting a disgusted protest from Daily Caller’s Tucker Carlson. Vanden Heuvel’s response was to plow through Carlson’s objections, a strategy which, no doubt, delighted liberals and infuriated conservatives. The term “tea-bagger” has become a gargantuan red herring, almost a “red spermwhale,” if you will.

Rush Limbaugh’s interview with Fox News’ Chris Wallace on Sunday, during which he criticized President Obama’s, is still making waves. On Joy Behar’s HLN show last night both Arianna Huffington and The Nation‘s Katrina Vanden Heuvel weighed in on the interview, which Vanden Heuvel described as “sycophantic.”
