With Donald Trump dominating most of the political coverage lately, it seems supporters of Sarah Palin are missing the “love” from the media. Last night Palin’s aide Rebecca Mansour took to Twitter to directly challenge various “mainstream media” outlets as to why they didn’t cover Palin’s Tea Party speech last weekend.

Chris Matthews asked his Sunday morning panel why Republicans derisively use the term “mainstream media” and whether 2012 presidential candidates could be successful if they avoided engaging with the media? Matthews heard varied responses, but ultimately thought that candidates might come out looking better after a “testy interview” rather than avoiding confrontation.

Potential Republican candidate for President Herman Cain apparently doesn’t want Donald Trump to be the only presidential hopeful to get all the headlines this week. After sharing some comments about Muslims that raised eyebrows, Cain is back again with some theories regarding why the “liberal mainstream media” is scared of certain Republican candidates and “doubly scared” of him.

The recent appointment of former Time magazine reporter Jay Carney as White House Press Secretary has already spawned an effort to discredit Carney, and his former colleagues, by right-wing media watchdog Newsbusters. The right’s answer to Media Matters has released what it calls a “Media Bias Dossier” on Carney, but at eight quotes in a twenty-year career, it’s pretty thin gruel. It might also surprise Newsbusters to know that libeeral watchdog Media Matters has an even thicker “dossier” on Carney, and that Redstate’s Erick Erickson is among Carney’s biggest fans.

As former Time magazine reporter Jay Carney emerges from the Office of the Vice President into the glaring spotlight of White House Press Secretary, there will undoubtedly be an effort to capitalize on the right’s contempt for mainstream journalism by demonizing Carney, and his former colleagues, in one fell swoop.

Right-wing radio host Rush Limbaugh provided the blueprint for this effort back in 2006, when he offhandedly slammed Carney and his wife, ABC News National Correspondent Claire Shipman, as “slave-owner and husband.” (h/t Media Matters)

Rush Limbaugh wanted to make it perfectly clear that anyone thinking political rhetoric in the 1980′s was more civil than it is today doesn’t remember the Reagan era very well. Limbaugh claimed the “hatred for Ronald Reagan was universal in the Democrat party and throughout the media” and that the discourse was just as vitriolic as Reagan was directly blamed for the spread of AIDS and homelessness and every other bad thing in between.

To answer the question posed by Mediaite‘s Tommy Christopher who last night wondered whether Sarah Palin’s silence on the Arizona shooting was her retreating or reloading, let the record reflect that Palin does not ever retreat. Every word Palin says in this video will be analyzed for days as Palin treats this with the seriousness of an actual leader and recognizes “America’s Enduring Strength.”

The immediate reaction to Gov. Sarah Palin‘s unexpected announcement: mass confusion by the “media elites.” The timing was less a “news dump” and more a “screw you” to her mortal enemies in the fourth estate. This time, though, even the conservatives were confused: Charles Krauthammer called it “erratic,” Hot Air’s Ed Morrissey essentially wrote her political obituary.

Oh “gotcha” media, you just don’t understand how things are done in the “real world.”
