Rather than re-showing clips that we’d already seen, each nominee was fêted by a special colleague, speaking effusively of his or her talent and ability and, in the case of Helen Mirren, overwhelming hotness. If you’re the type of person who likes wedding speeches (and I do), chances are you loved it (and I did).

While our counterparts at Mediaite have been dutifully liveblogging every last moment of this year’s 82nd Annual Academy Awards, we at Styleite gave up before the show even started; we were in it for the red carpet, clearly. Thankfully, this year’s pre-show fashion fest served up no shortage of sartorial sins, rewarding risks, and, predictably, the usual snoozefest offenders.

Many of you have probably spent the past few weeks since the last major televised award show (for the record, that would be the Grammys, held way back on January 31) suffering withdrawals…but fear not, the Academy Awards are coming Sunday to satisfy your insatiable hunger for those oh so meaningful thank you speeches. What should you expect when the action starts in the Kodak Theater? Read on to find out.

When Game Change authors Mark Halperin and John Heilemann joined Morning Joe host Joe Scarborough in discussing their best-selling and oft blogged about book, Halperin mentioned that the authors are in discussions with HBO about making a film version. Their dreamcast? Meryl Streep playing Hillary Clinton and Will Smith playing Barack Obama. Mediaite’s ideal cast is after the jump!

Last night’s 67th annual Golden Globe awards marked the official start to this year’s awards season and also provided the first clue as to what we can expect at the Oscars (hint: longevity. Meryl Streep, Jeff Bridges, and James Cameron all picked up awards last night).
