Michele Bachmann Likens Waterboarding To Truman’s WWII Decision To Nuke Japan
Saturday night’s CBS News-hosted GOP Debate focused on U.S. foreign policy, so it should come as no surprise that the issue of waterboarding enemy combatants is back. Rep. Michele Bachmann called in to America Newsroom on Fox News and was asked to respond to President Obama‘s dismissal of waterboarding as a useful and appropriate technique. Bachmann defended waterboarding by comparing it to President Truman‘s decision to drop nuclear weapons on Japan in World War II. Huh.
Rachel Maddow Casts The Characters In The ‘GOP Presidential Debate Show’
It’s a given that cable news talking heads charged with guiding political discussion have to weigh in on presidential debates. And, since everyone out there in cablenewsland is talking about the same thing, it often falls on hosts and their writers to come up with a fresh, new angle through which to view these debates so they’re not merely rehashing the same thing everyone else has been saying all throughout the day. Since we’re in the habit of giving mad props where mad props are due, kudos are due to Rachel Maddow and her team for discussing the debate and its participants in a way that was, you know. Different!
Keith Olbermann Calls For Boycott Of ‘Unacceptable’ Video Game In Which Players Shoot Up Fox News
Countdown host Keith Olbermann weighed in on the controversy surrounding the Tea Party Zombies video game during his “Worst Persons” segment, specifically denouncing the game’s anti-Fox News content, and even urged a boycott of the game’s distributor, Starving Eyes Advergaming. He did take a good-natured swipe at his cable news nemeses, but even Olbermann’s detractors ought to credit him for such a full-throated denunciation of the game, even if it is so far over the line that the line needs extra postage to send the game a letter.
Zombie Tea Party Game Causes Outrage Amongst The Right
Feeling like your world is being taken over by Tea Party Zombies? Why not use your lunch break to take a few of them out. The folks at StarvingEye have put together a very-much partisan game they call Tea Party Zombies Must Die, a game wherein — as you might guess — you are invited [...]
SNL’s Michele Bachmann Gets A State Of The Union Response Do-Over
On Saturday Night Live: Kristen Wiig, playing Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, got a second chance to respond to the State of the Union/address the haters. Unfortunately, even given a second chance, Bachmann was unable to find the right camera. Though the sketch went on a little too long (in classic SNL fashion), there were some [...]
Keeping Them Honest: Anderson Cooper Ridicules Bachmann For “Flunking History”
Last Friday Michelle Bachmann gave a speech at an event for Iowan’s for Tax Relief that many reasonably saw as early effort to get a jump on the 2012 presidential campaign. News about her speech was less about a White House bid, however, instead focusing on her incorrect assessment of U.S. history in which she claimed the founding fathers were favored diversity and “worked tirelessly until slavery was no more.” Last night Anderson Cooper opened his show with his “Keeping Them Honest” that criticized the White House hopeful in pretty damning fashion.
Antonin Scalia Accepts Michele Bachmann’s Invitation To Speak To House’s Tea Party Caucus
Justice Antonin Scalia, a man who knows his pizza, is now courting controversy by accepting Representative Michele Bachman‘s invitation to speak to the House’s Tea Party Caucus about the constitution, specifically on the topic of “Separation of Powers.”
Chris Matthews Really Likes Calling Michele Bachmann A “Zombie”
Political pundits and hosts like to come up with little running insults for the people they don’t like. Not only does it help belittle and dehumanize your political enemy or rival, it also serves as a fun gag for your regular viewers. Some fun examples are Rush Limbaugh always calling Harry Reid “Dingy” or Keith Olbermann always calling Glenn Beck “Lonesome Rhodes.” Well, we can now add another pet name to that illustrious group. Apparently Chris Matthews is unable to discuss Michele Bachmann without referring to her as “a zombie.”
Bill Ayers, Andrew Breitbart, and Van Jones Helping to Fund Glenn Beck Rally
While following up on the various charity auctions being run to fund Glenn Beck‘s August 28 “Restoring Honor” rally (and then the Special Operations Warrior Foundation), I came across some items that are the very definition of “strange bedfellows.” Fans can bid for a dinner with Andrew Breitbart, or copies of Beck tome Arguing with Idiots, signed by Beck and 2008 campaign relic William Ayers, or Beck and his fellow Mediaite fan Van Jones.
Michele Bachmann Hoping To Pray Her Way To Political Relevance
Whereas, Sarah Palin rode the John McCain/VP train to national prominence, Michele Bachmann appears to be hoping that the path to a national platform lies through the Tea Partiers. And perhaps prayer meetings? Bachmann certainly pulled out all the stops yesterday at a anti-healthcare reform “Prayercast.”
