Inside Sharron Angle’s Failed Campaign: “A Model Of Dysfunction”

Sharron Angle

In the mood for some dirt on the midterms? You’re in luck—yesterday, Shira Toeplitz of Politico published a long postmortem of Sharron Angle‘s campaign, which was apparently as poorly-organized and ineffective as Harry Reid‘s was compelling.

George Will: Dems Mistakenly Think Problem Is Messaging Not Policies

Screen shot 2010-11-07 at 5.58.51 PM video

On 60 Minutes tonight President Obama tells Steve Kroft that one of the reasons the Dems lost a historic amount of seats in Tuesday’s Midterms was that his “messaging was the problem.” It’s hard to imagine how a President praised for his great oratorical skills during the campaign, and who has arguably appeared on in [...]

Rachel Maddow: Don’t Kid Yourselves, There’s Not Going To Be Any Compromise

Screen shot 2010-11-04 at 11.37.15 AM

“So, what’s next?” Rachel Maddow asked at the opening of her show last night, clapping her hand and shrugging her shoulders. What’s next, according to Maddow, is not the bipartisan cooperation both President Obama and Rep. John Boehner have been giving (a small amount of) lip service to since Tuesday.

Screen shot 2010-11-04 at 9.11.35 AM video

Behold her latest offering: A fun new video from SarahPac titled ‘Together’ featuring a slew of Tuesday’s big winners (and Palin endorsements)

Screen shot 2010-11-03 at 11.55.44 AM

The New Republic’s Jonathan Chait joins the ranks of reporters posting midterm post-mortems this morning, with a piece that offers a simple explanation for why the elections turned out the way they did. Chait says that turnout yesterday was “disproportionately old and white,” which explains why the GOP swept the House and nearly wrested control of the Senate.

In An Entirely Reasonable Move, Oklahoma Bans Sharia Law

Oklahoma

We all know that the Muslims are plotting to conquer America’s heartland, one Denny’s at a time. Thankfully, they’ve been dealt a blow after last night’s election, when Oklahoma voters approved a ballot measure that will prevent judges from taking Islamic law into consideration while arbitrating a case.

How Do You Spell Lisa Murkowski? ‘Write-In’ Votes Lead In Alaska

Alaska’s polls were the last to close in the nation last night (or today, depending where you are), but it may be a while before we know who snagged the hotly-contested Senate seat there. Reports this morning indicate that “Write-in Votes” was leading the results with nearly 40 percent of the vote.

Hillary Clinton: Obama Is Envious I’m Out Of The Country Today

Screen shot 2010-11-02 at 1.27.18 PM

Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has been a notably absent presence in this year’s midterms. While husband Bill has been stumping around the country, Clinton has kept almost entirely clear of this year’s Midterm circus, something she thinks President Obama may be a little green with envy over.

Boston’s WCVB TV reports that early Monday afternoon, service outages began to affect towns in Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

Report: GOP Ad Buyers Favor Crime Dramas, While Dems Go For Comedies

dancing-with-the-stars-season-nine-pairings-photos

According to Ashley Parker of the New York Times, Dancing with the Stars attracts ads from Republicans and Democrats in equal measure. As Parker writes, though, the “bipartisan consensus on America’s TV habits apparently ends there.” In a year when political spending on TV advertising will hit an all-time high of $3 billion, all television programs are not created equal. Each major party targets different sets of voters by choosing to run ads for their candidates during different types of shows.

Breaking! Most Of This Year’s Campaign Claims Are ‘Barely True’

Screen shot 2010-10-28 at 10.16.18 AM

This will no doubt come as a total shock to anyone who’s been paying attention to this year’s crop of (frequently bizarre) campaign ads. Politifact — the non-partisan fact-checking group Jake Tapper charged with reviewing his This Week panels earlier this year — has reviewed candidates claims this year and concluded they are “barely true.”

Chris Matthews Asks Independent Voters How They Can Be “Heartless” And Abandon Dems

Rachel Maddow: I’m Amazed How Tea Party Has Revisited 90′s Culture Wars

Screen shot 2010-10-26 at 10.10.40 AM video

Rachel Maddow was on the Today show yesterday, presumably not for the first time, though it is admittedly a little strange to see her pop up on a network morning show. She was ostensibly there to talk about her special on murdered abortion provide Dr. George Tiller but, needless to say, also weighed in on next week’s midterms and what she has found most surprising.

In fact, with a week to go Whitman, who not that long ago was neck and neck with opponent Jerry Brown, is now trailing by double digits. Desperate times call for desperate campaign commercials.

Mom Up? Oklahoma Candidate for Governor Plays ‘Mom Card’ on Childless Opponent

mom_up

While the gender-based political attack du jour deals with the sowing end of the seed spectrum, maternity has suddenly become fertile ground for at least one candidate. At an Oklahoma gubernatorial debate last week, Rep. Mary Fallin (R-OK) touted her 6-0 childrearing advantage over opponent Jari Askins (D-OK), causing cries of “Low blow!” to come sweeping down the plain. Asked what distinguished her from Askins as a candidate, Fallin replied “I think my experience is one of the things that sets me apart as a candidate for governor. First of all, being a mother, having children, raising a family.”

0
