As of the latest Nielsen numbers, Fox News has won the ratings every month for an entire decade. The network first surpassed CNN for the ratings title in January 2002.

“We are extremely proud of the phenomenal achievement created by the hard work and talent of the FOX News Channel employees,” Fox News Chairman Roger Ailes said in a statement, “and recognize how difficult it is for a cable network to sustain this level of dominance for a decade.”

In January 2012, FNC averaged 1.942 million viewers, almost doubling their numbers from January 2002, when the network averaged 1.091 million. And it’s not just dominating cable news — FNC ranked fifth in all of cable during January, according to Nielsen Media Research, behind only ESPN, USA, History and TBS (CNN and MSNBC ranked 23rd and 27th respectively). Earlier this month, during the week of the South Carolina primary, the network landed in the second overall spot in prime time cable rankings, behind just USA.

So how do we tip our cap to Fox News on this occasion? With a a few short clips of three of the network’s biggest stars — Bill O’Reilly, Sean Hannity, and Neil Cavuto — on October 7, 1996, the first day of Fox News.

Bill O’Reilly Of The O’Reilly Report:

But, because of a poor cell phone connection, the interview eventually devolved into a choppy, garbled mess, with Gingrich even asking Neil Cavuto the infamous, “Can you hear me now?” line.

The highlight of the interview — when the reception was still somewhat decent — came when Cavuto asked Gingrich about his rivals dropping out so the scattered supporters could “coalesce” around one candidate.

“I think people have every right to do what they think is best for their own careers,” Gingrich said. “Folks said I was dead back in June and July. People could have told me to drop out, so it wouldn’t be appropriate… But in the end, sooner or later, it’s going to become Romney versus Gingrich.”

Cavuto then brought up the idea of Mitt Romney possibly upping the attacks, beginning with a cake congratulating Gingrich on the 15 year anniversary of House ethics violations.

“Is it going to get nasty and are you prepared for that?” Cavuto asked, to no reply “We might have lost him…”

“Can you hear me?” Gingrich asked. “Can you hear me now?”

“Yes I can, Speaker,”

“You’re a serious person, you’re on a serious show on Fox –” And then the line went dead.

“Alright, I’m sorry Speaker, it sounded like you were criticizing me anyway, so I’m glad we don’t have it,” Cavuto said, before adding, “I’m kidding.”

But thanks to Stephen Colbert‘s endorsement, Cain is once again a player. Having been a former frontrunner in the Republican race, however, Cain found himself defending his appearance with Colbert from claims that the two were “trivializing the process,” and told Neil Cavuto today that he did it to court youth and college voters, and that Colbert was correct in pointing out that the “FEC rules are broken.”

RELATED: Stephen Colbert And Herman Cain Seem To Both Be Enjoying Their Unlikely Partnership

Cavuto began the interview by asking about Newt Gingrich and the recent claims by his ex-wife that he had wanted her to partake in an “open marriage.” It seemed to do nothing to stop his rise in the polls in South Carolina, except, perhaps, exacerbate it. “The attack on Newt wasn’t coincidental,” Cain replied, “and I believe voters connected the dots. They saw what happened to me and now, the same attack on Newt.” He called it a “coordinated effort to take down whoever is on top,” and refused to say who was behind it, but credited the people of South Carolina with being “sick of it.”

He responded that there was “no difference” between what happened to him and what happened to Gingrich, but that “some people in the media wouldn’t stop spinning these false accusation over and over and over [and] that was painful to my wife.” He added, on a totally different type of attack, that he would not release his tax returns if he were Mitt Romney. “They want to give liberals one more nugget to basically continue the class warfare,” he argued.

The talk then turned to Colbert. “Why are you doing this?” Cavuto asked. “No one talks about the youth vote and the college vote,” he replied. “With all due respect, they believe the mainstream media is boring.” He described his event with Colbert as an “exhilarating experience,” and challenged the premise that Colbert was “trivializing the process.” “The FEC rules are flawed to begin with… all he is doing is using his platform to help keep college students engaged.” While he added that he “explicitly told them not to vote for me” at the rally, he noted that, as any candidate with a SuperPAC, “I can’t tell Colbert what to do,” but only encouraged people to not “be part of the problem– be part of the solution!”

Cain also had nice words for Neil Cavuto’s impressively salmon tie.

On Fox News today, Neil Cavuto– who defended King– commented on the Fox & Friends assault, and found the tactic effective as it is worrisome. “You’re not really doing anyone a favor,” he told Gregg Jarrett, “except throwing a bone at a crowd that likes red meat.”

Jarrett noted that Gingrich had gone off on Fox & Friends, “excoriat[ing] them for a simple question.” “What do you make of Gingrich’s tactic here?” he asked. To which Cavuto responded that “there’s no doubt that it is working,” noting that he speaks from first-hand experience with Gingrich. He also added that the presumed ideology of the target media person doesn’t seem to matter, as long as they are considered “mainstream media,” and this is precisely what happened to King.

“There was an elephant in the room, John King was raising an issue that was germane,” he noted, because of the Republican Party’s past attacks in this area. “If the Republican Party is going to make a big deal over private issues, as is a fair thing to do, and it certainly did so with Bill Clinton, we have to be consistent on this,” he argued. He added that journalists had “a responsibility to dismiss the rage of an ex,” but the story was in the public sphere and thus fair. He concluded that Gingrich’s responses don’t seem to help anyone, as there was a way to “bat it away without batting me for raising it” or “saying it is stupid for me to bring it up.”

Cavuto first asked Imus for his take on the debate on Thursday, and he noted that he was not particularly happy with Mitt Romney‘s performance. “If this was your first exposure to these people, you’d vote for Gingrich. He had an answer for everything!” Imus noted, adding that he believed that Romney’s answers on the tax return issue were insufficient. Cavuto asked Imus to clarify whether he though Gingrich was “taking advantage on the big, in-your-face issues,” to which Imus simply answered that Romney “didn’t answer questions” before musing, “who would’ve known that the headline coming out of all this is that many women wanted to sleep with Newt Gingrich?!” He ignored some protest noises from Cavuto, continuing, “He’s getting more action than Charlie Sheen!”

Cavuto then steered the conversation away from Newt Gingrich having more sex than Charlie Sheen to more pleasant imagery: President Obama singing “Let’s Stay Together.” “You think that appeals to one segment of the population– that appeals to everybody,” Imus noted, comparing it to Bill Clinton playing saxophone with Arsenio Hall. Cavuto poked at Imus claiming he sounded a little less in Romney’s corner now than in the past, which made Imus note, “I’m feeling that you’re not all that happy to have me on.” “I’m happy to have you!” Cavuto replied, “but you do have an attitude.” Imus did argue that if Romney “can’t handle Newt Gingrich, he won’t be able to handle Barack Obama.”

As with most Cavuto/Imus conversations, this one ended with Cavuto reminding Imus to come back on the air with him later in the evening, and Imus complaining that “people don’t realize you make me appear” on the show, jokingly claiming he never gets a say in these things.

Enough with making a big deal out of a question that was fair and an issue that was and is germane. Enough with making CNN’s reporter a villain and Newt Gingrich a hero for dodging it. He was perfectly in his rights trying to make him the issue, for even discussing the comments, but the reporter would have been derelict if he did not raise this. I respect Speaker Gingrich for the energy and intelligence that he brings to this race, but, frankly, his pile on the questioner because you do not like the question, is getting a little long in the debate tooth in this race,” Cavuto scolded.

“The reporter is an excellent journalist — Newt Gingrich is an excellent politician. The excellent politician swats away an embarrassing question by trying to embarrass the guy who asked it. That is to be expected. The excellent journalist nevertheless asked knowing full well a crowd and a big one will frown on him because he did ask it. That, too, is to be expected. That doesn’t make him bad for raising an issue that has become the elephant in the room,” Cavuto continued. “Fair is fair! Now, argue all you want, that the media is unfair to Republicans on this kind of issue but if memory serves me right, when this stuff happens for pure ratings, they love this kind of issue. Gingrich is free to swat it away and say he has made peace with god for past transgressions but save the piety.”

This comes at a time, he added, when House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is attempting to distance herself from the ongoing Occupy movement.

He showed a clip of Pelosi saying that, as opposed to the Tea Party’s relationship to the Republican party, Democrats don’t have a clear ideological connection to the Occupy movement.

“But wait a minute…” Cavuto continued. Wasn’t this the very same Nancy Pelosi who once said “God bless [the Occupy protesters] for their spontaneity,” and who opined that “we must give that 99 percent a stronger voice” and work harder to “empower” them?

RELATED: Tea Party Leaders To GOP: Reduce Spending Or Get Ready For Primary Challenges

Cavuto brought on Daily Caller reporter Jamie Weinstein to discuss this further:

Well, look, the President once said that we’re on their side, he’s adopted the language of Occupy — one of his spokesmen yesterday [said] he used the term “99 percent,” he often used the term “millionaires and billionaires,” you just saw what Nancy Pelosi said. There’s many other examples. And the fact of the matter is it wasn’t just yesterday the Occupy movement turned violent. There’s been plenty of examples of sexual violence in these Occupy camps. I think there’s been five dozen arrests just at the Washington DC Occupy camp up through January 3rd; I’m sure there’s been several since then as well. So I don’t think the Democrats can escape being associated with this. With their own words, they tied themselves to it.

As Cavuto sees it, the Democrats aligned themselves with the movement when it attacked what are deemed to be primarily “Republican institutions,” but, now that they targeted the home of a Democratic president, they want to distance themselves.

He hosted his regular show, Your World, at 4 p.m. on Fox News. He then ran over to his other studio to host Fox Business Network’s Cavuto at 6 p.m.. After a quick break, he jumped back behind the desk at 8 p.m. to anchor FBN’s coverage of the Iowa Caucus results. With returns still unclear into the wee hours of the night, Cavuto didn’t sign off until 2:37 a.m. Which leads to the obvious question: Why does a business network care so much about primary elections?

“We can’t not cover this,” Cavuto tells Mediaite. “These issues are so intertwined, if you think about it. That’s why I’m surprised when competitors drop the ball on it.”

Viewers may have noticed CNBC was in tape for both the Iowa Caucus and New Hampshire Primary.

Cavuto admits that he’s a “history wonk” who lives for political drama, and considers the FBN coverage to be “the best of both worlds.” But he also sees it as an opportunity to let viewers know the station is serious about their coverage. He’ll happily opine that the channel doesn’t go left, right, red, or blue: it goes green. Money, and, therefore, business, is a big part of politics. And it’s his job to show that as the results come in.

But what about the overlap with Fox News? Is he supposed to be competing with them or coordinating with them for viewers? Cavuto says that there’s actually a great deal of cooperation between the two networks. The stations figure out, together, when to call most races. In the last election, he went so far as to hold off in calling a couple early results in which Fox News had tabbed a victor because he didn’t feel comfortable declaring a winner, “with just two percent of precincts in.” But his diligence paid off. “At that time, we beat CNBC in ratings,” Cavuto explains. “I think that if you build it, they will come. If you show people you’re serious, they will respond. And this is a work in progress. I know very well when I leave my Fox News show, its a different audience — certainly a smaller audience — but it’s a growing audience.”

One thing Cavuto has learned in this work in progress is not to make promises on air. During the Iowa coverage, he swore he wouldn’t leave the desk until they got a winner. They were planning two hours of coverage — it ended up running six and-a-half. “I get paid a pretty good buck, and I shouldn’t be a lard-ass about it. But by the end of Iowa, I was like Jerry Lewis at the end of the telethon.”

Still, ask Cavuto if he’d do it again (and he will be, next Saturday, with South Carolina’s primary), and he doesn’t hesitate to say yes. “I see rival networks giving a perfunctory, ‘So and so won this primary,’ and then they’re back to a Teflon commercial, or they’re running a seven-year old special, and I think I owe my viewers more. I think that they deserve more. People are into this. And we as a financial network owe it to [our viewers to] be into this ourselves.”

Host Neil Cavuto was discussing Romney’s chances– as well as other frontrunners– after a particularly strenuous primary season. “You guys were beating each other up so badly,” Cavuto noted (to which Cain protested, “I wasn’t beating anybody up!”), “are they just damaged goods?”

Cain replied that he did not believe so; on the contrary, he thought once the Republicans had a “kumbaya” moment, they’d be in good shape. That said, if Romney became the nominee, “he still has to do something dramatic to bring everyone together.”

Dramatic? “He could put a very well-liked conservative on the ticket.”

Like Chris Christie! “I don’t think he’s considered a conservative. In fact, I think that could backfire.”

Cain explained that the problem with Christie was that he would “not cause conservatives to rally around” and “could do more harm than good.” Instead, Cain had another proposition– one that he clarified was not at all “self-promotion.” “What if he adopted 999?”

“I have no idea what he is going to do,” Paul said. “I don’t think he will be calling me for advice. I don’t think he will ask for an appointment to come see me to get advice or an endorsement. I’m not expecting that.”

Cavuto asked the Republican hopeful why he never kissed Trump’s “ring” like many of the other candidates had.

“I didn’t think it was necessary or appropriate,” Paul replied. “How could he endorse what I’m doing? My positions are pretty much opposite of what he talks about. He doesn’t believe in free market. He likes the Federal Reserve. He is not a free trader. He likes tariffs. So there is not a lot we have in common.”

Bush’s top strategist Karl Rove thinks House Republicans overreached in reneging on the payroll tax cut deal. His advice: having lost the politics, Republicans should wait until (or to see if?) President Obama flies off to Hawaii on vacation, bash him and congressional Democrats for abdicating their duties, and then … pass the same Senate payroll tax cut compromise they could have passed on Tuesday.

“I think the Wall Street journal editorial today hit it on the nail,” Rove said Wednesday on Fox News.

The question now is how do the Republicans get out it? And there is only one way to get out of it. And that is, stay in Washington. Wait until President Obama gets on an airplane and heads to Hawaii and then hold a session of the House, vote the two month extension, and use it as an opportunity to beat up on the now long-absent Democrats and Harry Reid and the absent President and say, look, this is going to cause … not be good for the companies that have to write the paychecks because we have heard from the people who process payroll checks that this is gonna be a problem, and it is not good for the American people because we’re only giving them a two months not a year’s worth of confidence. Use it for political theater and then vote the extension and get out of town. They’ve lost the optics on it and the only way to win it is to just stick there and ruin their own Christmases and wait until the President heads off to Hawaii and then lambast the Democrats for having abdicated their responsibility to pass a year-long tax cut.

There’s a lot of brainstorming going on among Congressional Republicans about how to fail with dignity. They’re not floating any trial balloons just yet, but now they have Karl Rove’s two cents.

In this year’s installment of his “Annual Christmas Shopping Tips for Men,” Cavuto kicked off with a word of advice to women viewers: “[I]f I sound sexist, please get over it,” as visions of sugar plums hang limply in our heads.

RELATED: Oh Jesus! Christmas Is Not Sexist

Cavuto’s first tip was a good one: “Don’t Think Too Much.” See, although I possess ovaries and a whole mess of fallopian tubes and, as such, am a natural-born nurturer and gift-giver, I usually end up giving most people on my list a gently-used candle, a $2.73 gift card to the Olive Garden of their choice, or a few loose Life Savers that had been rattling in my purse since last Fourth of July. Don’t overthink it! It’s the thought that counts!

Tip #2: “Avoid All Sales.” I think I found those Life Savers on the F train, but am not sure if that counts as a “sale,” really. That said, all men should avoid sales because, according to Cavuto, we women will know of your cheapskate ways and will sprinkle special voodoo dust on your penis as you sleep. When you awake, your member will vaguely resemble current-day Mickey Rourke and have developed the ability to hum the theme from Titanic. It will be awful for you, gentlemen. Just awful.

Tip #3: “Never Get Off The Cashier Line.” Sound advice, although I would expand it to read “Never Get Off While I’m The Cashier Line.” Men, amiright?

Tip #4: “Think Kiosks.” Because who doesn’t like getting pieces of shit for Christmas?

Tip #5: “Embraced Processed Meats and Cheeses.” Better yet, personalize your gift by drawing a happy face or scribbling a sweet message on a Kraft Single before stapling it to your beloved’s Christmas stocking. Spell “Olive You” on her pillow with pieces of olive loaf. Your wife — Or your husband. Who am I to assume? — will appreciate both your thoughtfulness and your creativity.

Tip #6: “Never Guess on Sizes.” Ack! Good tip! This is because, until we’re successful in getting back down to our birth weight, we ladies are constantly afraid that we’re too fat.

Tip #7: “Never Buy Gift Certificates.” Ladies prefer coupons. Or babies.

Tip #8: “Never Ask for Advice at the Mall.” Women will try to trick you into buying a gift that’s more luxurious, thoughtful, or beautiful than you’re willing to give. It’s something we all decided on during our last coven meeting, the one where we also all decided that Ryan Gosling was hot, for some reason.

Tip #9: “Think Domino’s… 30 Minutes or Less.” Or better yet, just order her some Domino’s.

Tip #10: “Pretend You’re Deathly Ill On Line.” Or just pay a visit to the food court’s Taco Bell before you shop.

Check it out, from Fox News:

Noting the seating arrangement — with Kelly on one side facing the three men — the four decided to play off a Dating Game theme, throwing in jokes alongside the serious analysis.

Wallace, who has caught some flak for his recent comments on Ron Paul, took a few serious moments to say that he stood by his feeling that a Paul win in the Iowa caucus diminishes the relevancy of the event. Cavuto jumped in, saying that it’s wrong to dismiss Paul’s hypothetical win:

“You can’t besmirch a candidate if he or she wins because it might seem like that candidate’s outside the mainstream.”

When Kelly pressed Cavuto for his impressions of the moderating experience so far, he quickly replied, “Chris is rude.” He later also added, “I can carry the nerd element here.”

Kelly then asked each “bachelor” if they were nervous, and what their pre-game ritual was:

Baier: “You always get a little bit nervous at the beginning. big crowd, big viewership. I always call my 4 1/2 year-old to get some words of wisdom.”

Wallace: “I will go sit in a room by myself, completely quiet for about 20 minutes before the debate and just go over the questions and think about it and think about how they might respond and follow ups I might ask and I just want to own the material before I go in.

Cavuto: “I am nervous. You guys have been cool as a cucumber before this. I’m going to have a Ralph Kramden ‘core a apple’ moment. I know that. It’s well worth it for viewers to stick around to watch. So when the first question comes, Bret’s ready with, ‘Okay, we’ll take over the derivatives questions.’” (“That’s why I have all of the questions,” Baier added. “Just in case somebody leaves the stage momentarily.”)

With 400 jobs across various levels of employment being offered, the Tabacco brothers deemed it, “an exciting day,” before revealing some of the actions taken by the protesters to drive them away.

“A small faction of them surrounded us,” Derek said. “They started throwing bird seed at our feet. They kind of disrupted us a little bit.” The group numbered about 50 or 60, Derek explained, and the birdseed was used to attract a storm of pigeons to their area.

“Occupiers were getting ornery,” John added, noting that they had to shut the job fair down early because protesters were swearing at them, yelling in their faces, and spitting on them. “They got kind of pissed off about it,” he said.

Cavuto played two clips of Occupy protesters, asking what they thought about the job fair. One man believed the job fair was trying to “undercut” the movement, while another said he was too busy working the OWS kitchen to find a paying job. Although the brothers said they got a positive response from people who had come by, hearing about the job fair, none of the occupiers in Zuccotti Park wanted to hear about the job opportunities, even though many of the protesters the Tabaccos encountered during their first anti-protest told them they couldn’t find jobs, and that was why they were protesting.

“We’re out there trying to do something positive, and not one occupier came over to us and handed in a resume,” John explained, “It kind of shows that their argument is disingenuous.”

RELATED: Donald Trump Hits Back: Charles Krauthammer, George Will And Karl Rove Are ‘Political Hacks’

“No, I don’t think at all,” said Trump. “I mean, you know, people talk. Look, I’ve had the number one selling business book. Here we are on a great business show, a fantastic business show that I watch all the time, but as you know, The Art of the Deal was the number one selling business book of all time. I’ve had twelve bestsellers. This is, frankly, a book that I’m very proud of. It’s actually a book I’ve probably worked the hardest on.”

Trump then admitted that all the attention on him right now “doesn’t hurt” his book sales.

Cavuto then began to form a question about the dark times Trump faced coming out of bankruptcy, when Trump interrupted to say that he’s never gone bankrupt. “On the brink, let’s say,” Cavuto ventured. “Neil, I never went bankrupt,” Trump continued. “People say I went bankrupt, but I don’t understand.”

Cavuto noticed that he’d seemed to have “opened up a wound here,” and gave Trump a change to explain what, exactly, had happened to his business in the early 90s.

“Nothing happened,” Trump replied. “I was in trouble like almost everybody else, and I worked out my difficulties. I have some great banks that are with me to this day; they love Trump.”

“I wonder whether candidates who suck up to you fear you as much as they suck up to you,” said a characteristically hesitant Cavuto. “I don’t think they should fear me at all,” Trump replied.

He added, once again, that he’d be open to running if the Republicans don’t pick the “right” candidate. Also, he has a successful show and did well in the polls before he left. Just so you know.

Appearing on the show he announced the beginning of his campaign on, Cain discussed the latest affair allegation, how the situation was affecting his family, his many foreign policy gaffes, if he’ll stay in the race, and whether or not he even should.

First things first, Cain had to address the vague comment that he was “reassessing” his campaign following the allegation that he’d been engaged in a 13 year extra-marital affair. Cain told Cavuto that by that he meant he was “re-evaluating,” which he claimed any businessman would do in the situation. He said his wife and family had been hurt by all the stories (“It has had a very damaging effect on my wife emotionally.”) and he wanted to take a few days to decide what to do. Cavuto pressed him for a definite throughout the lengthy interview but, by the end, all he got was that Cain will have made a decision “by next week.”

Now, onto the new allegations themselves. Cain maintained his innocence, at one point asking how he could have an affair for that many years when one of those years he had a horrible cancer scare. He claimed that he was just a giving person, and that he helped many people over the years, one of which just happened to be female. However, Cavuto didn’t let him scoot by, pressing Cain on the phone records showing many late night calls and text messages to the woman. Again, Cain just said he’d helped a lot of people, again saying that he wasn’t able to know if any of those other people would come up now with more “trumped up charges.”

RELATED: Bill O’Reilly And Glenn Beck Agree: ‘Herman Cain Is Through’

Cavuto then asked why the woman, Ginger White, would come forward and say these things if they weren’t true. Cain said he didn’t know except that people were probably putting her up to it. This set a tone for the rest of the interview as Cain repeatedly referred to the “elites” and “establishment” that was orchestrating this “character establishment.” He claimed that this establishment was angry that he’d gotten too big too fast. It’s interesting to note, though, that Cain made in clear repeatedly that he believed these shadowy puppetmasters were evil Democrats and not Republicans who just “want a fair race.” Presumably, his campaign has learned the hard lesson from when they rushed to accuse Rick Perry. Despite the fact that Cavuto offered Cain an example of one Republican (Rep. Allen West) who has publicly suggested he leave the race, Cain made sure, whenever discussing these hated “elites,” to mention that they were liberals.

The tough questions continued as Cavuto asked Cain about the feelings amongst some that, even if the sex scandals are nothing, perhaps his many foreign policy mistakes are enough to take him out of serious consideration. Cain responded that he was a “work in progress” and that he “learns from [his] mistakes.”

While the interview was tough, the two men remained cordial and shared a laugh at the end as Cavuto made one more attempt to get Cain to open up about whether or not he’d remain in the race.

“I say to the viewers, ‘look you bastards! You have a responsibility…’” Imus exploded.

“You called our viewers bastards — they are your life blood!” Cavuto fired back. “And you’re blaming them for the fact that you might suck. It’s not their problem that you’re show is awful!”

“It’s not awful!” countered Imus, asking Cavuto if he would prefer if they brought back the program he replaced. “Wanna go back to Money for Breakfast!?”

“You know what, I would!” Cavuto exclaimed. “Because at least with Money for Breakfast I knew what I was getting!”

“You were getting a program that sucked!” Imus boomed.

“This sucks more,” Cavuto rebutted.

“I’m mad at you because you are attacking the viewers for your inability to keep them,” blasted Cavuto. “That is your problem! That is not their problem! What they’re saying is that ‘Don Imus, you’re not consistent, we’re flipping you off.’”

“They have a responsibility to watch,” Imus said.

“They have no responsibility to watch!” Cavuto countered.

Angered, Imus briefly shut Cavuto’s mic off.

“You are an idiot!” Imus snapped.

Undaunted, Cavuto trashed the Fox Business anchor’s jackets, saying viewers probably thought he was Vincent Price and said Imus’s supporting anchors were doing a much better job than he was.

“They are ten times funnier than what you have ever done!” Cavuto riffed.

Because of their wacky ideals and whatnot, it’s so hard to peg exactly where they’ll be coming from. Take, for example, John Stossell’s appearance on Your World today. While he came on with a fake protest sign declaring his love of free speech, he disagreed that the Occupiers had a right to, well, occupy with tents. However, when Neil Cavuto presented him with a clip seeming to show the protesters as inciting violence, Stossell refused to take the bait, instead pointing out that the Occupiers hadn’t actually done anything violent yet.

The clip in question was one that had been all over the Conservative blogosphere today featuring an angry protester following the eviction saying that, while the NYPD had guns, they had bodies and making references to molotov cocktails. If anyone’s spent any time indulging in Conservative media in the past couple months, this is the latest of a series of stories held aloft to prove that, while the protesters are lazy, directionless slackers, they’re also, as Rush Limbaugh put it today, “lousy hippies, thieves, rapists, purse snatchers, and muggers.”

Stossell wouldn’t go for it though. He summed up his feelings for the movement thusly:

“I don’t like those people, they smell bad, but they haven’t committed violence really yet.”

Damn Libertarian. Agree with one side or the other, you stupid jerk!

Herman Cain joined Neil Cavuto in the studio on Friday, and he hit on a wide range of topics, from his hatred of political speak to the true origins of his 9-9-9 plan. But his most interesting comments came when Cavuto asked if he had to tone down the jokes and flippant comments a little more:

“I do have to dial it back a little bit. On a scale of one to 10, with 10 being ‘not dialing it back at all,’ I’m going to move it to a nine,” Cain said. “Because Herman is going to be Herman.”

Cain, who said he never has intentions of being offensive, believes that people have connected with him because of his fun personality and plain talk. He mocked a generic political candidate to Cavuto as an example, stiffening up and speaking in a robotic tone. “I know how to act the presidential image if that’s what they want, and bore them to death like a lot of other people, and speak political speak,” Cain said, in character, before dismissing the idea. “If I ever get to the point that I have to not be me in order to run, I’m not running.”

Cain also dropped a 9-9-9 bombshell, revealing to Cavuto that the ubiquitous tax scheme didn’t start that way. His economic adviser, Rich Lowrie, actually figured out that the numbers they needed to replace the five taxes Cain would be eliminating was far less catchy: 8.75 across the board. “I said, ‘Rich, who in the world is going to be running around talking about 8.75, 8.75, 8.75? We’re going to call it the 9-9-9 plan.’ He said, ‘Okay boss.’” And with that, a piece of Americana was born.

This afternoon, Walsh went on to Your World to offer an explanation on his odd behavior. Apparently he had “made the mistake of doing [the town hall] on an empty stomach with a little too much coffee.” I see.

Neil Cavuto then suggested that maybe he should switch from coffee to Prozac. Zing!

It’s a funny little interview with a clearly very embarrassed Walsh and an extremely amused Cavuto who spends the entire time displaying an absolutely classic Cavuto smirk.

There’s probably a lot of sleeplessness and caffeine involved, and looking lively is a must. That must have been what Fox Business anchor Dagen McDowell was striving for this morning on Fox News’ morning panel with Neil Cavuto, when she called Vice President Joe Biden “numb nuts” and accused him of “talking out of his backside.” Have to keep things spicy, right?

The topic, loosely, that the panel discussed were comments by the Vice President suggesting crime rates would go up if the Obama jobs bill was not passed, because police officers would have to be fired and criminals would be out on the streets. Panelists Charles Payne and Ben Stein were interrupted in their discussion of why crime rates today were so low (Stein arguing because prison population has skyrocketed) by McDowell, who had a point to make.

While President Obama was out claiming “folks are rewarded for saying irresponsible things to win elections,” she argued, “lecturing and hectoring (?),” while “Numb Nuts [is] on the campaign trail talking out of his backside.” Charles Gasparino tried to make the point in a more modified way, calling Biden “off his rocker,” while Cavuto tried to regain control of the panel and Adam Lashinsky interjected, “I object to calling the Vice President a ‘numb nut,’ just to state that for the record.”

This kind of language is prima facie unacceptable in political discourse, clearly, but the video is still something of a marvel, as the rest of the panel tries to initially understand what just happened and then distance themselves from it in some sort of dignified fashion.

Mattera underscored his concern for women by complaining to Cavuto about the contempt shown to him by Biden’s “press chick,” and continued to mislead about Biden’s remarks, saying the VP accused Republicans of being “pro-rape.”

Cavuto opened the segment by playing the clip of Mattera’s ambush of Biden, including his false allegation that Biden had used “a rape reference to describe Republican opposition to the President’s bill.”

Biden quickly, forcefully corrected Mattera, saying that he has been referencing various crime statistics, including rape, as possible consequences of failing to pass the portion of the American Jobs Act that puts laid-off police back on the job. There’s a fair argument to be made that Biden’s remarks have been overly manipulative, at times, or heavy-handed, but he never tried to conflate opposition to the bill with rape.

After playing the clip, Cavuto asked Mattera how the encounter ended. “Well, his press chick said, ‘who are you with,’ as I was shoved by people in the group,” Mattera responded, ”and I said Human Events.”

Mattera went on to say that Mr. Biden had been “suggesting that the Republican party is pro rape,” and that Biden “said he wished his critics were rape victims,” neither of which is remotely true. On the first count, Biden’s suggestion is, at worst, that Republicans are blind to the consequences of draconian austerity measures, and on the latter, he did express a wish that opponents of the measure who call it a temporary fix could empathize with those who would be hardest hit by a cop shortage. “I wish these guys that thought it was temporary,” Biden said, ”I wish they had some notion what it’s like to be on the other side of a gun or a 200 pound man standing over you telling you to submit. Folks, it matters. It matters!”

Mattera then explained to Cavuto how he managed to get so close to the Vice President, by pretending to be a fan who wanted to pose for a picture with Biden. That’s part of Mattera’s consistent MO, to pretend he’s a fan of his subject. Cavuto then asked Mattera what the VP’s staff said to him after the encounter.

“Only, who are you with?” Mattera replied, adding, “With contempt. as though I had no right to ask this type of question. It is a legitimate, straightforward question.”

That’s where Mattera gets it wrong. As I’ve said on many occasions, I have no problem with so-called “ambush interviews” per se, and in fact, Mattera’s creativity and resourcefulness in gaining access are commendable. What earned him the contempt of Biden’s “press chick” was the fact that his question, as usual, revealed him to be a bad-faith actor. Mattera would have you believe that it has something to do with him being a conservative, but Human Events already has a White House reporter, one who does ask questions in good faith, and doesn’t embed lies in them. His name is John Gizzi, and he has earned the respect of his colleagues, and this White House. Mattera could learn a thing or two from him, as I have.

Here’s the clip, from Fox News’ Your World with Neil Cavuto:

Can they have it both ways?” Cavuto snarked.

“They need the product,” surmised Martin. “I have been down to a lot of these protests and they are using Apple products to communicate! Which, believe me they have the right to do but it is against the foundation of what they are talking about! So, look, a lot of the kids, if you will, “bogart” — which means to borrow or use even wireless signals of the Starbucks or the Paneras that are around the corners which is, I guess, at best, hypocritical and maybe, at worst, criminal!”

With this baseless insinuation, Martin completely lost whatever argument he was making by not doing his research. First of all, there are no Panera Breads on the island of Manhattan and Martin’s completely unfounded allegation that the Occupy Wall Street protestors were stealing wi-fi is a borderline slanderous accusation. A quick Google search on his part would’ve shown that there is, in fact, free wireless internet on site provided by Isaac Wilder, a former Grinnell student who runs The Free Network Foundation, an organization “devoted to providing free wireless service,” according to a report by New York Magazine‘s Tim Murphy.

Cavuto also asked Martin about why the protestors didn’t care about Apple making such a huge profit.

“I think it’s misplaced aggression on the part of these protestors…They should be in Washington. It’s not the trader’s fault! They’re in the wrong spot,” Martin exclaimed.

The Fox News host followed up with asking Martin whether the movement was running out of steam and the Accent Asset Management CEO agreed.

“I think as it goes on and on, you learn more about the message not being clear, you’re against Capitalism? Then why are you using products that are helping you organize?!” Martin argued. “And I think over time, people are seeing this less as a movement and more of a hobby…If you guys want to talk about jobs and issues with the economy – go to Washington, get somebody in Washington who will fix it. Don’t blame mainstream America!”

This shoddily researched segment was underscored by the fact that Your World producers actually displayed a chyron with placeholder text! Maybe they should hire one of those tech-savvy protestors to help with their graphics department.

The celebs had sent Neil Cavuto messages with memories and good wishes– from Trump’s assertion of how great everything at Fox is to Suzanne Somers thanking Cavuto for letting her talk about things he didn’t seem particularly interested in. In a phone interview with Cavuto, Trump had some surprising goodwill for President Obama, saying “I’d love to have Obama be a great president, I’d love to see Obama finish off really strongly and do a great job.”

As this is Trump, however, he did add a caveat: “I don’t think that’s going to happen because the first thing you have to do is get rid of Obamacare and I don’t see that in the cards, but I would be so happy if he turned out to be a great president, but it is just not happening.”

When asked by Cavuto about why Republican candidates like Rick Perry and Mitt Romney were being all buddy-buddy with him, Trump said he thought they respected his views. “I think they respect I have a big following of people that are tired of seeing this country being ripped off by other nations like China.”

Cavuto asked Trump what he thought of Herman Cain‘s recent momentum. Trump gave the former Godfather’s Pizza CEO props for his recent successes and looked forward to meeting up. “He should be very proud of himself, he is doing a good job, a good guy, people like him a lot. I like him. I think he is a really good guy and I look forward to meeting him.”

While his origins are somewhat unclear, the Tea Party activist’s agenda was on full display today on Your World, where Lewis told host Neil Cavuto he considered Rep. Boehner a “socialist,” that the Tea Party movement was still “figuring out” whether it was socialist itself, and that Planned Parenthood is a “criminal syndicate.”

Cavuto introduced the candidate asking about his general platform, which mostly seems to consist of opposition to Planned Parenthood and, by proxy, Speaker Boehner for having voted to fund it. “It is an organization that murders babies,” he told Cavuto dramatically, which led Cavuto to attempt to change the subject to any other platform issues. That resulted in Lewis noting, “I am the Tea Party candidate… John Boehner is a socialist.” Cavuto, flabbergasted, attempted to dispute that, with Lewis clarifying, “I’m not calling names– it’s an economic policy.” He didn’t particularly elaborate how this economic policy was visible in Speaker Boehner’s views other than saying “here’s someone that refuses to phase out Social Security.”

The bizarre comments led Cavuto to question whether Lewis was an actual Tea Party-backed candidate (as the Tea Party has no central leadership, it is entirely possible to claim to be a member of the Tea Party without having the support of any one individual or group). “I think so,” Lewis replied, arguing that “the Tea Party is still trying to figure out whether they believe in socialist policies.” That last bit will probably come as a surprise to anyone else who associates themselves with the Tea Party, as their views on socialism are the only unifying tenet of the movement.

In any case, the interview continued awkwardly in this vein, with Cavuto trying to get answers out of Lewis that made for some coherent views and instead getting comments like “Planned Parenthood is a criminal syndicate.” One can’t help but notice a bit of regret, or at least confusion, on Cavuto’s end at Lewis being given a national platform.

Host Neil Cavuto paraphrased Cheney’s interview on his show, quoting that he thought the feisty Libertarian didn’t have a chance to become the nominee, and Paul’s stance on “pulling up soldiers boots from around the world” was risky.

“We’ll have to prove him wrong,” responded Paul. “I’m quite competent about the foreign policy that I advocate, we’ll have to prove him wrong by winning some elections. When he says he’ll support all Republicans except some like myself, which means that he wants to be the dictator… ‘I will decide who will decide who’s a true Republican or not.’ And I say he doesn’t have that authority! The people have the authority. He just might come up short on his desire… I’m very confident that we’re going to continue to surprise a lot of people.”

Cavuto followed up by adding that Cheney was shocked by Paul’s view that the US shouldn’t interfere with countries like Iran possessing nuclear weapons.

“I don’t want them to have a nuclear weapon, I don’t want any of them to have them,” Paul reasoned. “I don’t like ‘em, but I understand it. If Iran gets one nuclear weapon, why are they more dangerous than the Soviet system? Why’s when they had 30,000, we were able to live with that?”

Cavuto pressed that Iran would be more dangerous with a nuclear weapon in the hands of Ahmadinejad, who has a history of aberrant behavior.

“How could they be any worse than Khrushchev saying he would bury us and he had the capacity to do it.” Paul countered. “I would say what we ought to be more cautious about is this glib acceptance that we can go to war in another country because if you want to stop him, you have to go to war with Iran. And that to me is careless, war-mongering, very, very dangerous– much more dangerous than another country having a nuclear weapon that’s not on the verge of committing suicide. They wouldn’t dare, with one weapon and Israel has 300?! We have to put this in a proper perspective and get back to our common sense.”

This afternoon on Your World, Neil Cavuto interviewed one of the protesters, Tea Party activist Ryan Rhodes about why he did what he did and how he thought it went?

Rhodes certainly didn’t receive a hero’s welcome as Cavuto made a point to bring up critics’ accusations that Rhodes had been shouting during the President’s speech and that he had purposefully positioned himself where he knew he could make a “media show” of a pre-planned confrontation. Rhodes was quick to explain that he had sat “politely” through the entire speech.

Mostly though, Cavuto let Rhodes do the talking, objectively asking for his response to each of the President’s statements as well as to the fact that the President had engaged him at all. And Rhodes made sure to describe the interaction as much less hostile than some have made it out to be.

Cavuto summed it up, “Well, you’re a gutsy guy if nothing else.”

Rep. Paul stopped by to answer some questions with Neil Cavuto today, sounding very optimistic and railing against paper money. But before he left, Cavuto had a rather interesting question for the Congressman: would he be open to appointing his roommate, son Sen. Rand Paul to a White House position.

“Things are looking pretty good, there is a lot of enthusiasm,” Rep. Paul told Cavuto from Iowa, where his operation seems to have collected some pretty visible fans (and props). He answered boldly on an inquiry about his governor Rick Perry‘s entry into the race, and whether it would overshadow a potential win on his part.

“It would show people in the media still aren’t looking for the real answers [if] you have a candidate who is part of the status quo getting all the attention,” he replied. Pushed on the “status quo” claim further, Rep. Paul reminded Cavuto that Perry “had a Tea Party candidate run against me” and predicted he would likely “interfere with Romney and a few others” but not with him. He then answered some questions on the stock market (he’d only invest in a stock “if they invest in gold or silver”) and entitlement programs.

Cavuto then asked about the potential of a Paul presidency, and not just in terms of this Congressman winning: “Would you appoint Rand to your administration? Paul didn’t seem entirely sure of whether he could do that, replying quickly “I don’t know if that’s legal,” but asserted that his son is “good at politics” and would at the very least be someone he would call up for advice on matters.

After a dramatic day on Wall Street Monday–with a massive selloff sending the Dow down 5.5 percent–the market rallied before the closing bell Tuesday. “Talk about your stunners,” said Fox’s Neil Cavuto, noting word from the Fed that interest rates were likely to stay low for up to two years fueled the late rally. “Interest rates will stay, and go play.
Monday’s 634-point plunge was the worst since 2008 as concern over the debt crisis sent investors into a massive selloff. The drop was the biggest percentage drop since December 2008 and the sixth-biggest point decline ever. Today’s late rally put the Dow up four percent on the day.
