New Orleans Saints Serve Gulf Seafood in White House Briefing Room

shrimp video

Following today’s presentation of a Super Bowl Jersey, by the New Orleans Saints to President Obama, several Saints players delivered a rare treat to the normally vending-machine-fed White House Press Corps: A sample of some seafood from the BP-ravaged Gulf of Mexico. Aside from feeding the faces of some grateful White House reporters, the demonstration helped to show that Gulf seafood is bouncing back, and to hopefully move some cookbooks for a good cause.

Some critics of Glenn Beck’s 8/28 “Restoring Honor” rally (a group that includes me) have also wondered how much of the estimated $2 million cost of the event might be used to pay Sarah Palin‘s speaking fee. While not the main focus of criticism of Beck’s rally, questions about funding for the event have been raised. As it turns out, Palin will not be paid a speaker’s fee, and the charity that’s partnering with Beck on the event does stand to benefit significantly from the event.

As Bill Press pointed out awhile back, Glenn Beck‘s August 28 “Restoring Honor” rally is being financed by tax-free donations which will benefit the Special Operations Warrior Foundation only after Beck’s event is paid for. The website StopBeck points out that the New Orleans Saints owner has donated an item for auction to Beck’s rally, the same Glenn Beck who referred to New Orleans Katrina victims as “scumbags.”

Aw. Indianapolis native David Letterman welcomed Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees of the winning New Orleans Saints to his show last night — despite his allegiance to the Colts — celebrating the new champion in the name of his team, his city and his super-cute baby son. Letterman showed Brees’ upcoming Sports Illustrated cover [...]

SuperBowl 2010: Saints vs. Colts (Which Means Saints If You Don’t Hate America)

neworleanssaints585_680288a

New Orleans wasn’t the only city ravaged by Hurricane Katrina, but it came to represent that awful destruction for the entire region. Tonight, with the Saints in the Superbowl, they represent a return from that disaster, and a renewal. So as much as everyone loves Peyton Manning, the Colts’ QB who has a shot of real greatness tonight, he shouldn’t be offended that pretty much everyone outside Indianapolis is rooting for the Saints.

The overnight numbers are in, and last night’s Vikings-Saints game is expected to be the most watched television program of any kind, excluding Super Bowls, since the series finale of Seinfeld.

Regardless of the outcomes of the two playoff games this weekend, the Super Bowl will have plenty of compelling story lines. Terrell Owens Pounds Rodney Harrison On Twitter Over Steroid Use

NFL star Terrell Owens wasn’t very happy about being held without a catch for the 1st time since 1996 as his Buffalo Bills fell to the New Orleans Saints yesterday. But he really wasn’t happy about being criticized by former NFL Pro Bowler and current NBC analyst Rodney Harrison.

And he used Twitter to unleash on Harrison.
