New York Post: OWS Protestors Costing Local Businesses Half A Million Dollars So Far
The Occupy Wall Street protestors are marching for the 99%, but others within the 99% have vocally expressed their frustration with the protests. Local businesses have claimed OWS has lost profits since the protests began a few weeks ago, and according to a survey of businesses on and around Broadway by the New York Post, businesses in the area have lost a combined total of roughly half a million dollars in total.
New York Post Reporter On Fox And Friends Says Sexual Assaults At OWS Are Going Unreported By Victims
Occupy Wall Street has grown and evolved into its own small city, complete with neighborhoods, cliques, and police forces (not wholly unlike “The Genesis Tub” sketch from The Simpsons). Candice M. Giove, a reporter from the New York Post, decided to spend a night in Zuccotti Park and report on what she saw. It was pretty much what one would expect — a wide assortment of strangers, including protesters, anarchists, and people looking at the protest like it was a mini-Woodstock. But Giove also discovered a disturbing trend of under-reported sexual assaults, as well a transgender group that was contemplating starting its own police force.
New York Post Declares: It’s Time To Throw Occupy Wall Street ‘Bums’ Out
No funny puns on the cover of today’s New York Post. Not even any sexy hookers for no apparent reason. Just a simple message, written in simple size 1,000,000,000 font, declaring that it’s time to say “ENOUGH!” to those darn Occupy Wall Street Protesters.
Get Out The Vote? Not So Much: MTV Reportedly Staying Out Of 2012 Obama Campaign
MTV told Obama‘s re-election campaign that they’re going to have to go it alone this year. According to a New York Post “exclusive,” the President’s Get Out the Vote campaign-within-a-campaign was declined service by MTV’s internal ad agency, MTV Scratch, which does not engage in political work. If they need to know what the kids want, they are going to have to figure it out themselves.
Report: Viewers ‘Infuriated’ When CBS, Fox Switched From 9/11 Coverage To Football
The New York Post reports this morning, in brief, that “CBS and Fox infuriated viewers yesterday by cutting away to the opening Sunday NFL match-ups — in the middle of the 9/11 memorial coverage.” And they weren’t even New York football teams!
Fox and Friends Throws A Hissy Fit Over President Obama’s Canadian-Built Bus
As the New York Post puts it, President Obama’s a “Ca-nucklehead” for “barnstorming the heartland to boost US jobs in a taxpayer-financed luxury bus the government had custom built — in Canada.” The Post‘s Geoff Earle reports the Secret Service commissioned the bus–and a second as well–from an American company, but the million-dollar buses have some Northern exposure:
This Exists: An iPad Cover Made From Bernie Madoff’s Pants
The New York Post‘s Jeremy Olshan put it best: “you’d think they’d know better than to trust their valuables to Bernie Madoff.” But as the Post reports this morning, a tech entrepreneur who bought up Madoff’s clothes at auction has fashioned them into pricey iPad covers–and people are buying (even though, just like Madoff, these covers are a fancy veneer only, and you could lose everything). “They are strictly for fashion purposes,” he said. “If you drop it, it’s going to crack.”
‘Rent Is Too Damn High’ Guy Is Fighting Eviction Because His Rent Is Too Damn Low
Life imitating art: 2012 Presidential candidate and media sensation Jimmy McMillan, known for having fun a New York gubernatorial campaign for the Rent is Too Damn High Party, is now facing eviction from his Manhattan apartment in what he calls a naked money-grab to undo rent control laws over his apartment. In a New York Post exclusive, McMillan argues that claims he does not actually live in the apartment are patently false, and he will do anything to fight his eviction.
Frank Rich Condemns ‘Murdoch Culture’ With Joy Behar: ‘It’s Thuggery’
Yesterday, we shared New York magazine writer Frank Rich‘s article chronicling his own and others’ experiences with what he referred to as “bullying” on the part of Rupert Murdoch‘s News Corp and its employees. Rich accused the company, which he referred to as a “media colossus,” as routinely resorting to intimidation in its continued attempts to maximize power and silence critics. Rich paid a visit to Joy Behar‘s HLN show to discuss his experiences further and to issue a warning that the “whole Murdoch culture” has spread to the United States.
Frank Rich: Murdoch’s ‘Media Colossus’ Uses Intimidation To Maximize Power, Punish Enemies
New York magazine’s Frank Rich has offered an in-depth look at how Rupert Murdoch‘s News Corp. — currently deeply embroiled in a hacking scandal involving the company’s now-defunct UK newspaper News of the World — also had a hand in several less-than-aboveboard practices on this side of the pond.
In 1976, at the dawn of his career, Rich found himself working for the Post when the paper was sold to a then little-known (here in the States, at any rate) Murdoch. The crux of Rich’s piece lies not in bolstering the “us versus them” narrative espoused by many in the “mainstream media,” but on zeroing in on how the Murdoch empire systematically abuses power in order to further an agenda, even if this abuse should happen to break the law.
Report: Casey Anthony’s Lawyer Being Courted By Networks For On-Air Role To Get Closer To Casey
The New York Post’s gossip page reports that Jose Baez, Casey Anthony’s successful lawyer, is being courted by news networks to be an on-air legal analyst since “he’s the key to Casey Anthony.” Allegedly these networks want to get the big interview with Anthony, and believe starting a relationship with Baez now will help them gain access to Anthony when she is eventually ready to talk.
Jon Stewart Skewers Fox News For Belittling ‘Epic’ Murdoch Scandal
Given that Rupert Murdoch was to present himself before Parliament today, and given that said presentation involved a pie attack, today was ripe for the news picking for Jon Stewart, and he hit it out of the park. With a full recap that included the arrest of Mrs. Weasley that guy from Simply Red Rebekah Brooks, Wendi Deng‘s martial arts, and, of course, an extensive sniping of Fox News for treating NPR far harsher than sister medium News of the World.
Howard Kurtz: Not Covering Murdoch Controversy Exposes Fox News’ ‘Double Standard’
As the News of the World phone hacking scandal continues to claim scalps, the coverage– or lack thereof– of the story on its sister organization Fox News continues to claim headlines. On today’s Reliable Sources, host Howard Kurtz, admitting he felt “very strongly” about the issue, chided Fox News for keeping quiet, noting that “when CNN has controversy, we always do it” and that, by not covering the scandal, the network “undermines its credibility.”
Mediaite Exclusive: Dominique Strauss-Kahn Tells Pals “I Am Not Running For President”
With the New York media abuzz that prosecutors are preparing to drop the rape charges against former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, many here and in his home country of France are stirring up speculation that he could be on the verge of re-starting his political career by running for President of France — as he was expected to do before the scandal erupted. But Mediaite has learned that Strauss-Kahn himself appears well aware that he has no immediate political prospects and that a run for President right now is simply not in the cards.
New York Post Demonizes Casey Anthony Defense Team For Dining Out
With all of the jurors involved in the Casey Anthony case keeping silent, her defense team is taking the brunt of the national backlash, and only helping to stoke the fires. But while lead attorneys Jose Baez and Cheney Mason have certainly participated in plenty of questionable behavior, the New York Post may have pulled the trigger too soon calling the legal team “gross” for dining out tonight.
Hotel Maid Who Accused DSK Of Rape Is Now Suing The New York Post
The Sofitel hotel maid who accused former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn of rape is now suing the New York Post and four of the paper’s reporters for libel and defamation following an article indicating that she has been making extra money as a prostitute.
The article in question, published on July 2nd, ran under the title “Maid cleaning up as ‘hooker,’” and claims that the maid routinely made extra money by servicing male hotel guests.
NY Post: Prosecutors To Drop Charges Against Dominique Strauss-Kahn
The New York Post quotes an unnamed “top investigator” involved in the sex prosecution of former IMF chief Dominique Strauss-Kahn, saying prosecutors will drop the charges after the case has collapsed amid questions about DSK’s accuser. “We all know this case is not sustainable,” the source told The Post‘s Laura Italiano, who says her source described the dismissal of charges as “a certainty.”
The New York Post Takes Female Competitive Eaters Out To Lunch
It’s that time of the year again– time for the world’s greatest eaters to celebrate the America’s independence from England by chowing down as many hot dogs as possible within an insanely short amount of time. And this year, the famed Nathan’s Hot Dog Eating Contest in Coney Island will have a brand-new feature– a woman’s division. The Post‘s Jeremy Olshan took the crew of competitive eaters out to eat at the Plaza, and found much relief in that they only had to face each other, and desperate hunger at not having access to a buffet.
New York Post: Anthony Weiner Aims To Be ‘Kingmaker’ In Finding His Own Replacement
Disgraced former New York congressman Anthony Weiner‘s not exactly gone into hiding. Instead of focusing on repairing his marriage, the New York Post‘s Sally Goldenberg and Josh Margolin report Weiner’s busy working his political connections in an attempt to help choose his own successor. “Weiner, who became a national dirty joke after he was caught sexting young women, now wants to be a kingmaker,” they write in today’s Post.
Rupert Murdoch’s Rise To Power Charted In Bloomberg TV’s Game Changers Series
How did the publisher of a family-owned newspaper in Adelaide, Australia rise to become one of the most powerful media tycoons on Earth–controlling a fortune worth more than 30 billion dollars? The rise of News Corp. chairman Rupert Murdoch is probed in a Bloomberg TV special airing Tuesday night. The Murdoch special, part of the Game Changers series, includes interviews with people who’ve worked with Murdoch at Fox, the New York Post and in the U.K., and by journalists who’ve studied him. “Rupert Murdoch is what God meant when he created a media executive,” says Bloomberg Businessweek‘s Ron Grover.
New York Post Subdued Yet Sarcastic In Classic Weiner Front Page
In tabloid newspapers, they call those big, huge headlines “the wood,” but we’ll avoid that for right now. The New York Post was oddly subdued yet perfectly clever in today’s front page headline on the resignation of Rep. Anthony Weiner: WEINER’S RISE AND FALL. The sub-headline, in case you need more puns: “sexting ‘member’ quits [...]
CNN’s Sam Feist Insists Rumors Of John King, USA‘s Demise Greatly Exaggerated
n the face of relentless reports–many of them from News Corp. properties like the New York Post and The Wall Street Journal–insisting CNN’s John King is a “dead man walking” who’s only keeping a seat warm until new hire Erin Burnett can swoop in and take his timeslot, CNN’s recently-named Washington bureau chief has reportedly told staff “senior management is behind JK USA,” according to a post on FishbowlDC. The comment, Politico reports, came in a staff meeting and was interpreted as a forceful response to the most recent King-Is-Out story, published May 26 in the Post.
Weinergate: How Various Papers, Websites And Networks Served Us Weiner
In the usual absence of any real, meaty (not a pun, thank you) political stories each summer, it’s usually something completely absurd, wild and/or scandalous that captures the attention of the media and the general public. Summer of ’11 has, so far, been a Summer of Weiner. The so-called “Weinergate” scandal has been the gift that keeps on giving, as far as many media outlets have been concerned, and it’s interesting to see how each has managed to put its own spin on the story. Let’s take a look at how they (and, yes, we) managed it, shall we?
New York Daily News Strikes Tab Gold: ‘YEAH, I’M A SCHMUCK’
In the immediately aftermath of Rep. Anthony Weiner’s surreal news conference in New York Monday, thoughts drifted to New York’s legendary tabloids, and how the story would play out on Tuesday’s front pages of the New York Post and the New York Daily News. We’ve seen the covers, and both papers wisely moved past “weiner” jokes, but only one produced wood worthy of induction into the Hall of Fame. The Post played it oddly safe with NAKED TRUTH. Meh. But the Daily News found a classic New York way of boiling down the content of Weiner’s epic news conference–at least in the minds of New Yorkers: YEAH, I’M A SCHMUCK.
Red Eye‘s Greg Gutfeld Answers New York‘s 21 Questions
Greg Gutfeld gets to give his own extensive monologue about things that bother him five times a morning on Red Eye, but that doesn’t mean he isn’t a master of the snippy two-sentence answer as well. Gutfeld sat down with New York magazine for their “21 Questions” feature and, in remarkably few words, dished on his favorite New York newspaper, the “bachelorette party” he’d rather not talk about, and what Donald Trump reminds him of.
