The Magazine Editors category on the Power Grid has engendered some good debate here at Mediaite’s global headquarters. Summing up: should a Magazine Editor be rewarded more for the public profile of the title they oversee, or more for how they promote their own name.

So how did the weeklies fare in the aftermath of Michael Jackson‘s death at 2:26pm PT last Thursday? Well, the big winners in the media world at large included Twitter, any website with a connection and working knowledge of YouTube, and the network newscasts, which just barely had enough time to pull coverage together for a top story at 6:30pm. The weeklies had a rougher ride.

It’s not news anymore that Barack Obama has (unintentionally) masterminded his own sort of newspaper bailout. Newspapers across the country sold out their post-election day issues, so popular was the NYT edition that they paper is currently offering a reprint as an incentive to subscribe to the paper. Magazines covers were flooded throughout the campaign with images of our now president, sometimes in various states of undress, a number of which achieved record sales and varying degrees of notoriety. Point being! Obama is good for print.
