Was Rush Limbaugh Caught Picking His Nose At The Super Bowl? You Decide
An eagle-eyed Super Bowl viewer caught radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh allegedly mining for gold in New England Patriot’s Robert Kraft‘s luxury box during Sunday’s game.
Cokie Roberts On Tebow: God…Is Clearly Not A Broncos Fan
Have we not reached a place free of this yet? For some reason, George Stephanopoulos decided to talk about the notoriously Christian NFL player Tim Tebow on This Week today. He asked George Will how Tebow has become such a polarizing figure in not just sports, but somehow in politics as well. Will called Tebow “an exemplary gentleman” and said he was undeserving of the attacks against him.
Fox News Analyst Thrashes Congress On The Payroll Tax Deal With Spot-On NFL Analogy
This morning on Fox and Friends, a panel led by Brian Kilmeade discussed the payroll tax deal reached by Congress late Thursday. While the consensus was that John Boehner‘s job is safe — and Jon Bramick, a New Jersey lawyer, said that Boehner showed some impressive leadership skills — it was Dan Gerstein, a Democratic strategist, who stole the show, giving a concise, pointed statement on just how bad things have gotten in Congress.
NFL Receiver Blames God Via Twitter After Dropped Pass Loses Game (Video)
Bills receiver Steve Johnson dropped a perfectly-thrown ball from quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick that could have won his team a much-needed game. You’d expect someone to be pretty upset, given those circumstances…but Johnson might have taken it to another level.
Sports Anchor Gets Emotional During Pregame Show (Video)
James Brown of the NFL Today became visibly emotional during a segment on late Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry.
Did ESPN Tamper With A Monday Night Football Game?
A little mini-controversy involving ESPN and its possible involvement in the latter moments of last night’s Monday Night Football game has steadily gained steam on the blogosphere since this morning.
Rush Limbaugh: Gender Equality Is WNBA Players Wearing Latex Gloves For Prostate Exams
As of yesterday’s program, Rush Limbaugh hasn’t said something questionable in… three days an hour or so. This, of course, was highly problematic, especially given that all his material lately has been so Obama-centric. But luckily, it’s October– Breast Cancer Awareness month! Or as Limbaugh sees it, prime time to highlight the outrageous “invasion” of women into “virtually everything”– from country clubs to sports to, in the future… prostate exams?
The Cheerleader, The Marine, And The NFL Team That Tried To Keep Them Apart
A new report involving a Redskins cheerleader, her Marine boyfriend, and the team’s NBC broadcast partner threaten to make the Redskins and their owner look, at best, fundamentally dumb, at worst, awfully callous.
Media Misreports NFL’s Santonio Holmes iPod Airplane Security Flap
The “athletes being bad” story du jour is a report that Santonio Holmes, troubled receiver for the New York Jets, was escorted off of a flight from Newark to Pittsburgh by police. Numerous outlets are saying that Holmes was asked to turn off his iPod at the end of the flight, failed to do so, and was then “forcefully removed” by police. According to the Allegheny Police Department, however, that’s not entirely accurate.
Ben Roethlisberger Suspended For Six Games By NFL
It’s official: Pittsburgh Steeler’s quarterback Ben Roethlisberger has been suspended by NFL commissioner Roger Goodell for six games for violating the league’s personal conduct policy. The violation stems from accusations that Roethlisberger sexually assaulted a 20-year-old college student in a Georgia nightclub bathroom.
Panel Nerds: Malcolm Gladwell and Adam Gopnik’s Fireside Chat
Leave it to Malcolm Gladwell to come up with a reason why journalism – particularly magazine writing – will survive. Gladwell believes that even if a tiny percentage of people in the world value and subscribe to publications like the New Yorker then that actually translates into a large enough number to sustain the industry. But Gladwell also warned in his chat with his friend, colleague, and debating partner Adam Gopnik that it’s not often that his theories get substantiated by subsequent events.
Superbowl MVP Drew Brees on Letterman (with Baby Brees Backstage!)
Aw. Indianapolis native David Letterman welcomed Super Bowl XLIV MVP Drew Brees of the winning New Orleans Saints to his show last night — despite his allegiance to the Colts — celebrating the new champion in the name of his team, his city and his super-cute baby son. Letterman showed Brees’ upcoming Sports Illustrated cover [...]
Will Making Football Safer Mean The End Of The Game As We Know It?
Football is the most popular sport in America, but its popularity goes hand-in-hand with the fact that it’s also the most dangerous of the mainstream sports. In the latest issue of Time, Sean Gregory takes a look at the game’s ever-worsening head injury epidemic, and tries to figure out how to reverse the trend.
Almost Everyone With A TV Watched The Saints Beat The Vikings
The overnight numbers are in, and last night’s Vikings-Saints game is expected to be the most watched television program of any kind, excluding Super Bowls, since the series finale of Seinfeld.
Your Moment Of Glenn: If Ben Franklin Didn’t Want Gov. Health Care How Dare We
Two moments of Glenn today, both from yesterday’s show. One that makes reasonable sense. One that really just doesn’t. The latter first. In his ongoing campaign against health care reform Glenn Beck pulled a new rationale out of his hat last night: Ben Franklin did not demand health care during the writing of the Constitution. So if Benjamin Franklin did not write public health care in to the Constitution 250 years ago HOW DARE WE?
NFL Network Continues Its Not-So-Rosy Relations With Cable Providers
Ever since the NFL Network launched in 2003, there seemingly hasn’t been a moment it wasn’t embroiled in controversy involving its relationship with at least one major cable company. It ended a protracted standoff with Comcast earlier this year (though some Comcast subscribers already had the network), They’re still doing plenty of fighting, however, most prominently with Time Warner.
Bill Simmons Makes Triumphant Return To Twitter After Suspension
After serving a suspension from Twitter by ESPN, Bill Simmons returned yesterday to the social media site and tweeted up a storm.
Interestingly, much of it coincided with ESPN’s Monday Night Football game between Simmmons’ New England Patriots and the New Orleans Saints – the seemingly perfect venue for both sides.
ESPN’s Wilbon Apologizes for Slandering Limbaugh; Rush Rubs It In
ESPN’s Michael Wilbon was on CNN this morning to discuss an incident earlier this week where he, like many others in the media, falsely attributed quotes to Rush Limbaugh while reasoning that Limbaugh shouldn’t allowed to purchase a minority stake in the St. Louis Rams. Meanwhile, Limbaugh makes lemonade on the WSJ‘s Opinion page.
Rush Limbaugh’s NFL Bid Scuttled
Conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh‘s bid to purchase the St. Louis Rams has come to an end. After sources first told Sports Illustrated about the impending end of the deal, Limbaugh’s limited partner Dave Checketts confirmed the story to the AP. He said that Limbaugh’s participation in the ownership group had become a complication to their effort.
Rush To Judgment: The Overreaction To Limbaugh’s Interest In The Rams
Conservative radio icon Rush Limbaugh is part of a team of investors that may buy the NFL franchise St. Louis Rams, and since the news broke the story has taken on a life of its own.
Active players and the head of the NFL Players union are speaking out against the move, and cable news networks across the board are debating the possibility. But when push comes to shove, is all the uproar just hype?
Chad Ochocinco: Twitter Truth Teller, Andy Kaufman-Like Prankster
We’ve written about the pleasures of following NFL star Chad Ochocinco on Twitter before, but over the last two hours the Cincinnati Bengals wide receiver has taken it to the next level.
Combining humor and serious analysis, Ochocinco went rogue with a critique of the ongoing discussions regarding the collective bargaining agreement between the owners and the players. Then he said he got cut.
Terrell Owens Pounds Rodney Harrison On Twitter Over Steroid Use
NFL star Terrell Owens wasn’t very happy about being held without a catch for the 1st time since 1996 as his Buffalo Bills fell to the New Orleans Saints yesterday. But he really wasn’t happy about being criticized by former NFL Pro Bowler and current NBC analyst Rodney Harrison.
And he used Twitter to unleash on Harrison.
The New Courtroom: Tila Tequila Tweets Her Choking Case
It’s been nearly a week since San Diego Chargers star linebacker Shawne Merriman was arrested after reality TV…”star” Tila Tequila accused him of choking her. Since then Merriman and his attorneys have put out several statements denying any wrongdoing and planting the seed that Tequila was drunk at the time.
She hasn’t put out any official statements, but over the span of literally hundreds of tweets on the subject, I think it’s safe to say we know where Tila is coming from.
The Plax of His Tears: E:60‘s Surprisingly Revealing Interview With Plaxico Burress
I was standing ankle-deep in shredded paper on lower Broadway back in February of last year, and the money float — the one with Eli Manning, Michael Strahan, and the Vince Lombardi trophy — had just driven by to much rejoicing and fist-pumping. I assumed that another marquee player couldn’t be far behind. “I can’t [...]
Michael Vick’s Winning PR Strategy: Redemption By Work Ethic
Michael Vick appeared in the first segment of CBS’ 60 Minutes last night in a lengthy interview with James Brown (A CBS Sports, but not 60 Minutes contributor).
As Brown reported in the piece, Vick is working with “a group of attorneys, agents and media advisers,” and he said a lot of the “right” things in the CBS interview – unsurprising admissions of shame and a new appreciation for animals. But there was something else in the segment, that sounds like it will be a PR push: change the topic to work ethic.
