The kind where he says something so patently ridiculous that he himself can’t help but laugh as he imagines the furious liberals and listeners pounding on their radios in anger. (For past examples, watch the glee he had when responding to criticism over his “Chinese” voice) Today’s instance came as Limbaugh gave his theory why President Obama is pushing for an August 2nd deadline for debt ceiling talks: Ramadan starts on August 1st.

After the comment, there’s a pause and then Limbaugh begins laughing to himself and exclaiming “Well, it is! I looked it up!” The best part is, in that moment, he sounds exactly like a little boy realizing he can get away with saying “damn” if he’s talking about “dams.” “What? That’s what they’re called! Why are you mad!”

It may sound like I’m dissing the radio host by comparing him to a mischievous grade-schooler, but I mean it in the best way possible.

But did the show consciously sacrifice laughs in order to make a political point?]]> Picture 2Sarah Palin wasn’t the only political figure to get satirically served by Saturday Night Live this week. In fact, Barack Obama got his turn first, sort of like being president, right Sarah? (Kidding. Sort of!) The show opened with a CSPAN segment depicting a joint press conference between President Obama and Chinese President Hu Jintao, played by Will Forte and speaking through an interpreter. Thus, your requisite foreign language jokes and conjugation issues. The homosexual jokes can not so easily be accounted for, but rest assured, they’re there too.

But though the skit seemed a bit short on laughs, the same can not be said for its political content. Did the show consciously sacrifice funniness in favor of make a political point? We report, you decide!
