To wrap up a day filled with news about Palins of all stripes, here’s a brief clip from Sarah Palin‘s upcoming interview on Nightline. In it, she confesses to Barbara Walters that she’s seriously considering a presidential run—then answers “I believe so” when Walters asks if she believes she could beat Barack Obama.

Last week, Newsweek‘s Daniel Stone published a piece with a provocative thesis: that the American presidency “has grown, and grown and grown, into the most powerful, most impossible job in the world.” In other words, says Stone, the presidency is too big a job for just one man or woman to handle alone.

Columnist Charles Krauthammer, however, isn’t buying it.

What with all the brouhaha over George W. Bush‘s revealing interview with Matt Lauer, you may have forgotten that the former president’s memoir, Decision Points, has been released today. Apparently, he’s an overzealous fan of Obama, rather than a rabid detractor like the guy who threw a shoe at George W. Bush in 2008.

Tonight on his “Oddball” segment on Countdown, Keith Olbermann took a look at the strangest moment from President Barack Obama’s speech today – the Presidential Seal falling off his podium in the middle of his address.

Tonight, Saturday Night Live opened with a sketch that lampooned Rahm Emanuel‘s tearful White House farewell speech. Fred Armisen‘s Barack Obama opens the segment with a rather harsh assessment of Emanuel, calling him “a man who has twisted a few arms and poked a few chests. A man who knows no fear, but knows how to make others afraid.”

Add another name to the list of those who find Jon Stewart one of the most reasonable voices in news, real or fake: President Barack Obama. Speaking in Arlington, Va., Obama gave a tacit thumbs-up to Stewart’s upcoming Rally to Restore Sanity – and those who exemplify the “sanity” it promotes.

Pres. Barack Obama fired a shot at Fox News earlier this week when Rolling Stone published an interview with the President that included a less-than-flattering appraisal of the network (“It’s a point of view that I think is ultimately destructive for the long-term growth of a country that has a vibrant middle class and is competitive in the world”). Bill O’Reilly began one segment on the Factor tonight by reveling in the results of a recent Politico/George Washington University poll that said more Americans get their election coverage from Fox News than any other network, and that suggested O’Reilly himself is viewed as having a largely positive impact on national discourse. O’Reilly noted that most media people didn’t talk about this poll (this site, of course, excepted), but O’Reilly and guest Charles Krauthammer did…and Krauthammer came to the conclusion that President Barack Obama displays strong narcissistic tendencies.

It’s no secret the internet was a powerful tool for Barack Obama during the 2008 presidential election, but the College Republican National Committee decided to turn that fact on its head in a recent ad called “The Break Up,” in which they encourage young people so enraptured by Obama’s campaign two years ago to, well, break up with the president.

On the heels of President Obama—who lambastes the GOP’s “Pledge to America” for advocating “irresponsible policies”—FactCheck.org is also criticizing the Pledge, saying that it isn’t wholly factually accurate.

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad made waves yesterday when he suggested before the U.N. General Assembly that the U.S. government may have orchestrated the terrorist attacks of September 11. (Maybe the Iranian leader was still stinging because President Obama never responded to a message) Ahmadinejad sent shortly after he was elected to the American presidency.

A new ABC News poll states that only half of Americans citizens still believe in The American Dream. Or, depending on the type of person you are, half of Americans no longer believe in The American Dream.

The polls results indicate that when asked, “Do you think The American Dream — that if you work hard, you’ll get ahead — still holds true, never held true, or once held true but does not anymore?” 50% of Americans answered with “still true,” 43% with “once true,” and an entire 4% with “never true.”

NPR’s Ari Shapiro reports that increasingly, GOP candidates are mentioning President Obama in their ads—using his name as a weapon against both Democratic and Republican opponents.

Today, Barack Obama unambiguously defended Park51’s right to exist. After Fox News correspondent Wendell Goler asked the president to “weigh in on the wisdom of building a mosque a couple of blocks from Ground Zero,” the Commander-in-Chief responded with resonant—if not exactly original—words about the United States’ dedication to upholding individual liberties.

President Barack Obama’s poll numbers aren’t looking too good these days, and no matter how much of a thrill he gets up his leg when the man speaks, Chris Matthews knows it…and knows the president has to shake things up.
