Gay Activist Lt. Dan Choi Tweets From Jail After Being Arrested In Moscow Pride March

Lt. Dan Choi, the LGBT activist and West Point graduate that became a media staple during the battle to repeal Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, has been arrested in Moscow for attending a gay pride parade along with more than 30 other domestic and foreign activists. Interestingly enough, Moscow police allowed Lt. Choi to keep his cell phone with him in jail, which has allowed him to use Twitter to narrate the entire legal process.

The publisher of the Advocate and Out magazines–Here Media–has sent a letter threatening legal action to a former employee of its skin magazines for making negative comments about the company on his Facebook page.

Judy Garland is a “gay icon.” Her daughter Liza Minnelli also counts. Toss in Bette Midler and Madonna and Lady Gaga. You could probably even include Christiano Rinaldo and David Beckham as “gay icons,” of a sort. But it’s fair to say that a conservative member of Congress who is opposed to gay rights probably isn’t a “gay icon,” even if the gays find him attractive.

Following a weekend of speculation launched by TMZ, the Advocate has posted a profile–dated May 5–of Country Music singer Cheley Wright announcing she’s a lesbian. The gay magazine’s announcement appears to answer the speculation launched by super publicist Howard Bragman who said weeks ago that there would be a Cinco de Mayo gay announcement media blitz including a cover of People magazine and trips to the Today Show, The View and The Joy Behar Show.

You can sympathize with Guy Trebay, the incredibly talented fashion writer at the New York Times. With the news focused on Haiti and Leno/Conan, no one is all that interested in fashion, even with the debut of season seven of Project Runway. So you turn on the TV, catch Anderson Cooper carrying kids to safety on CNN in his tight, black t-shirt, and think: now there’s a story. It’s an interesting premise, but still, it all felt a little awkward.
