Last week, thanks to The Roots, America paid the most attention to a news story involving a talk show house band since that time a few years ago when The Roots became a talk show house band. In case you’ve forgotten, when Michele Bachmann appeared on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, the band chose to score her entrance to the song “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” and, apparently, it wasn’t because Bachmann is a secret Fishbone fan. The world promptly exploded, apologies were issued, and everyone got to remember how much we all used to enjoy mid-80s ska for a few days. Today, music website Pitchfork posted an interview with Questlove, the band’s most vocal member and the one who first alerted people to the musical statement, and he explained that he was “deeply sorry” for the choice.

The Rep. Michele Bachmann-Jimmy Fallon “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” controversy may be over, but Rep. Bachmann doesn’t sound too happy about its conclusion. Speaking to KLIF Radio this week, the New York Daily News reported the Republican presidential candidate said she “of course” accepted the apology from NBC’s Senior Vice President of Programming, but nonetheless considered it a result of a double-standard that the President of NBC himself did not send her a message.

Following Michele Bachmann’s calls for an apology from NBC after she walked on to Late Night with Jimmy Fallon to the tune of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”, the network’s vice president for late night programming, Doug Vaughan, offered a letter of personal regret for the incident. Michele Bachmann appeared on America’s Newsroom and called upon NBC to apologize for an inflammatory song that Roots drummer Questlove played to introduce her on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. “If that song had been played for Michelle Obama, I have no doubt that NBC would have apologized to her, and likely they could have fired the drummer, or at least, suspended him,” Bachmann fumed. “None of that happened from NBC, and this is clearly a form of bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite but it’s also sexism as well.”

Fox News’ The Five kicked up the Michele Bachmann – Jimmy Fallon controversy (It was reported earlier today that Fallon’s house band, The Roots, played Bachmann on to the show with a version of Fishbone’s “Lyin’ Ass Bitch”), and absolutely tore into the band and NBC for allowing this to happen. Taking the most offense was Greg Gutfield, who painted The Roots as both cowards and politically-motivated entertainers.

Glenn Beck was apoplectic upon learning that Questlove and The Roots had played “Lyin’ Ass Bitch” to introduce Michele Bachmann on The Late Show with Jimmy Fallon last night and trashed the late night host. “You treat her like that? Jimmy Fallon, you should be ashamed of yourself,” Beck erupted. “You want to use her for ratings? You’re a despicable human being!”

Michele Bachmann’s appearance on last night’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon was primarily focused on her family life, Thanksgiving, and a ill-fated attempted to make “stale, rehearsed political humor.” It now seems, however, that her spot on the show was tainted from the very beginning thanks to a sly commentary from Fallon’s house band, The Roots. In case anyone watching the show was curious why Bachmann’s entrance music appeared to be a rocking Fishbone song, the song’s title, “Lyin’ Ass Bitch,” might explain things.

More information is being made available about the man who gave New York City a collective heart attack yesterday afternoon when he threatened to jump from the 70-story high observation deck of Rockefeller Center’s General Electric building. The man, Jorge Ruiz, was visiting New York from Las Vegas, and was apparently distraught that a book he’d written was not going to be published.

Employees within the building, watching the scene unfold from the observation deck’s surveillance cameras, and tourists down in the plaza alike were snapping photos and Tweeting up a storm, many urging the man not to jump.

But, while the actor Giovanni Ribisi does look like the bass player in The Roots, what made you go ahead and assume they were the same person?

Here’s a story with a happy ending: The Roots and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon drummer ?uestlove apologized for stirring the racial pot at the NBC cafeteria when he tweeted a photo of a Black History Month menu featuring fried chicken and collard greens. As a peacemaking offering, ?uesto presented the chef responsible with a spa gift certificate and shook his head at bloggers who blew up the issue.

So who at NBC thought it would be a good idea for the special today to be, among other things, fried chicken, “in honor of Black History Month”?

Because, spoiler alert – it wasn’t a good idea at all. And now NBCU employee Questlove is bringing it to the attention of his 1 million plus Twitter followers.
