Fox News’ The Five topped all of their competition combined on Friday in both demo and total viewership. Scoring 352,000 in the demo and 1,639,000 in total viewing audience, the powerhouse quintet of Eric Bolling, Greg Gutfeld, Andrea Tantaros, Bob Beckel and Dana Perino dominated their 5pm timeslot for yet another night.

Ed Schultz‘s The Ed Show put up some impressive numbers Thursday, topping both CNN and HLN combined in the demo. Schultz averaged 230,000 viewers more than Anderson Cooper and Nancy Grace‘s respective programs put together. Schultz has been a tour-de-force at the network with his steadily strong 8pm slot ratings performance for MSNBC over the past couple of months.

Sometimes, trying to wring a few quick sentences out of these ratings every day is like trying to write episodic recaps of a test signal. It never ever changes. So, on a night like last night, where shows that do well all did well and shows that do less well all did less well, you have to get creative. Which is why, after staring at these numbers for 20 minutes, I finally noticed that Shepard Smith beat all of his 7pm competitors combined in the demo.

On Tuesday night, MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell topped his network’s entire primetime lineup in the demo. With an impressive 288,000 average demo viewers — O’Donnell bested all of his fellow colleagues for the night.

On Monday night, Fox News’ Shepard Smith beat out MSNBC’s Chris Matthews and CNN’s Erin Burnett in both demo and total viewers. The highest ratings of the night at Fox and CNN went to Bill O’Reilly and Anderson Cooper, respectively.

ABC’s Good Morning America edged out NBC’s The Today Show for the first time since December 1995, the New York Times‘ Brian Stelter reports.

According to preliminary Nielsen ratings for the week of April 9, ABC averaged 5,147,000 viewers — 13,000 more than NBC’s 5,134,000. That said, Today continues to lead GMA in viewers within the key age 25-54 demo.

On Thursday night, MSNBC beat CNN in every primetime slot in both demo and total viewers. Erin Burnett edged out her CNN colleagues in total viewers. Over at MSNBC, Rachel Maddow took the top spot in both demo and total viewers.

Last night, Fox News’ The O’Reilly Factor beat NBC’s Rock Center for the 5th consecutive week and the 6th time in 2012. Last night was the largest gap between the two programs — the #1 shows in cable and network TV, respectively — with host Bill O’Reilly achieving a 19 percent advantage over Brian Williams.

On Monday night, Rachel Maddow topped the rest of MSNBC’s primetime lineup. Fox News beat its competitors in every primetime slot — with Sean Hannity edging out Bill O’Reilly.

Three months ago, CBS This Morning re-launched as a “newsier” early morning talk show starring veteran interviewer Charlie Rose and radio host / television personality Gayle King, pouring $40 million into canceling the show’s predecessor and hiring former Morning Joe executive producer Chris Licht in hope of creating some early morning TV magic.

Greta Van Susteren‘s On The Record had a strong performance on Wednesday, topping her Fox News colleague Sean Hannity show in both demo (527,000 to 474,000) and total viewers (2,270,000 to 2,250,000).

Yesterday, as a tornado ripped through parts of the country, CNN showed again that they do particularly well when covering a large, unexpected event. Boosted by impressive footage of the storm, the network’s prime time shows were all helped by storm coverage, particularly John King, USA which, despite its host being out for the night, got a large hike in the demo.

Monday night saw CNN’s Wolf Blitzer beating out MSNBC Hardball host Chris Matthews in demo in the 5 pm hour — but just barely. Matthews went on to top CNN among overall viewers. In a move that’s sure to delight some people, shock others, and confuse the rest, NBC has booked none other than Sarah Palin to guest-host Tuesday’s edition of the TODAY Show. The network’s decision comes on the heels of ABC’s announcement that Katie Couric will be guest-hosting Good Morning America this week, whom Palin has an infamous media connection to.
