There was some unrest on Real Time with Bill Maher tonight – both among the panelists and in the audience. Maher and guest Tavis Smiley couldn’t agree on the relative treatment of women in Muslim countries and America, leading to some spirited debate and some strong attacks on Muslim countries from Maher. That is, until one audience member interrupted the show with a shouting rant before getting kicked out.

During Wednesday night’s On the Record with Greta Van Susteren, former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin delivered a nonsensical rebuttal to President Obama‘s State of the Union address that has been a topic of conversation on cable news all week. While there are legitimate reasons to mock Palin’s response, the claim that she said the Soviet Union “won the space race,” repeated again on Friday night’s Real Time with Bill Maher, just isn’t true.

Because Real Time is on hiatus until January 14, Bill Maher has some time to kill. Before setting off on a nationwide comedy tour—which is taking him to cities like Peoria and Tulsa in the next few weeks—he stopped by Countdown tonight to trade barbs about Conservatives with Keith Olbermann.

In a bit of ingenious re-branding, Real Time with Bill Maher guest Michael Moore suggested that, as long as Democrats are using “gynecological terms” like stimulus, “Why not call it a clitoris? Here, we have a clitoris plan for you.”

While the suggestion got a big laugh, it has some merit. Find out why after the jump, and see Moore’s money quote.

This week on Real Time with Bill Maher, panelists Fareed Zakaria, Rep. Darrell Issa, Dana Gould, and Washington DC Mayor Adrian Fenty discussed the right wing “echo chamber” and the rapid spread of rumors about the cost of President Obama‘s trip to India. They also took aim at the blogosphere, criticizing blogs for spreading the rumors and criticizing politicians such as Rep. Michele Bachmann for believing things they read on the internet.

There’s something amazing abou Bill O’Reilly. He can go on the most “liberal” show around or have on the most “liberal” guest, but you will still see a large amount of respect passing back and forth. It happened between he and Jon Stewart (their meetings being an annual highlight) and, tonight, it happened on Bill Maher’s Real Time. The meeting was so well matched that O’Reilly managed to get a couple moments of applause out of the Real Time audience (even though he called them applauding “seals”).

Wow. It looks like Keith Olbermann isn’t the only big liberal star to have a problem with the message espoused by Jon Stewart and Stephen Colbert at last week’s rally. On tonight’s Real Time, Bill Maher also had a problem with the way Stewart seemed to equate the extremes on the Left with the extremes on the Right. During an extended (and sure to be debated) New Rule, Maher argued that he didn’t “need to pretend that both sides have a point here.”

Bill Maher showed up on CNN to talk about comments he made on Real Time regarding the ‘alarming’ number of baby Mohammeds in England. Maher told Wolf Blitzer that he felt no need to “apologize for being a proud Westerner,” or for being worried that “Muslim people in these [Western] societies are having babies” at a faster clip than non-Muslims.

Those who accuse the once libertarian Bill Maher of becoming too much of a liberal apologist might want to clean their ears. Maher made a Juan Williams-esque confession on his program when he apprehensively noted that Mohammed has just become the most popular baby name in Britain. “Am I a racist to feel alarmed by that?” Maher asked his panel. “Because I am. And it’s not because of the race, it’s because of the religion. I don’t have to apologize, do I, for not wanting the Western world to be taken over by Islam in 300 years?”

Here’s a question. When was the last time you heard this segue: “You use the condom the first couple of times because you don’t know each other. Then you say, ‘Hey, I just f**cked you. I know you pretty well.’ … So, let’s talk about your mayoral run.” What? You’ve heard that zero times? After a week of good behavior brought on by the presence of “Tea Party Person” Dana Loesch, Real Time with Bill Maher returned to “Teabagger”-baiting with a renewed gusto. Besides returning to the free and frequent use of the Liptonian metaphor, Real Time panelist Rob Reiner deployed a guest bogeyman that’s also popular with the Tea Party: Hitler.

Bill Maher may have already unveiled the most egregious archived clips of Senatorial candidate Christine O’Donnell during her appearances on his show Politically Incorrect from the 90s, but tonight he proved that he wasn’t done. After watching her opponent Chris Coons become exasperated with O’Donnell’s debate techniques, Maher and his producers thought to put together a montage of a number of guests that were also exasperated by O’Donnell’s method of debate.

One might expect Bill Maher to rush to the defense of Joy Behar and Whoopi Goldberg who walked out on Bill O’Reilly when he claimed that Muslims attacked us on 9/11. But no, one would be wrong, as one can see in the following clip from HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher.

In addition to having some fun at Rick Sanchez’ expense tonight Bill Maher took the time to present another Christine O’Donnell video from his Politically Incorrect days. This clip makes it clear that O’Donnell didn’t limit her “dabbling” to witchcraft.

So if you haven’t heard (and we really, really doubt you haven’t at this point), Rick Sanchez was fired from CNN today. The cause: this radio rant where he went off on Jon Stewart and made what could be (and indeed were) construed as untoward remarks about Jews. Several pundits spoke up on the matter later this evening, and let’s just say there’s not much mourning out there for Sanchez.

In a preview of Bill v. Bill on tonight’s The O’Reilly Factor, Bill Maher and Bill O’Reilly traded hot air over the state of American ideology. In less than a minute, Maher manages to say “the right moved into a mental institution,” claim there is no such thing as liberal extremism, and call Republicans “religious lunatics.”

Bill Maher is about to return to HBO this Friday for the ninth season of Real Time With Bill Maher. Last night he appeared on Larry King and certainly had a lot of scorching remarks to make about the state of the country including that “we’re not number one in most things.”

Glenn Beck – get your popcorn ready.

Maybe because he was “the Tea Party candidate,” somehow Rand Paul became an avatar for American politics this week. But his rather strict adherence to libertarian philosophy created lots of interesting news angles. Much has already been written about his interview with Rachel Maddow, as well as the coalesced support from the libertarian set. But tonight was Bill Maher‘s turn to have a go with Rand Paul, who decided to show how even the most hackneyed jokes will still elicit a forced laugh.

Bill Maher’s guests the other night, which included New Yorker editor David Remnick and journalist Laura Flanders, appeared to concur with Frank Rich’s take on what’s motivating the movement, concluding from the poll results that the Partiers are actually not that upset about government involvement or taxing (they like their medicare; social security), but are worried and angry that we have a black president.

Seth McFarlane was a guest on Real Time with Bill Maher and of course spoke about the recent controversy surrounding his alleged portrayal (satire?) of Sarah Palin’s child Trig (who has Down’s Syndrome.) McFarlane told host Bill Maher “I saved my Sarah Palin virginity for you” after Maher had shown a clip of Palin criticizing Family Guy. McFarlane and Maher laughed off the criticism and cited the actress who played the “retarded” character who had claimed that Palin “doesn’t have a sense of humor.” Video after the clip.

Bill Maher took some shots at Fox News host Glenn Beck last month, but on Friday’s Real Time the HBO host sounded a lot like the FNC star he knocked.

Just as Beck has warned against the dangers of the vaccination, especially relating to Swine Flu, Maher continued his path of medical conspiracy theory, to the annoyance of his guests and confusion of his audience.

Bill Maher‘s main “new rule” Friday night on Real Time was “Democrats must get in touch with their inner asshole.”

In his monologue and on a blog post on The Huffington Post, he explained his reasoning. And a lot of it related to Glenn Beck.
