It’s True: Rick Sanchez Returning To The Airwaves As A College Football Announcer

Picture 1

No matter what, you can bet Twitter will be involved. According to the Miami Herald, ex-CNN anchor Rick Sanchez will be back this fall–on the radio in South Florida–calling football games for the FIU Golden Panthers. “Huge name move for FIU,” write David Neal and Justin Azpiazu, wondering if the at times well over the top style of Sanchez might “inject…games with the almost campily dramatic seriousness he did to shoot ‘em up Miami of the late 1980s-early 1990s” when Sanchez was an anchor at Miami’s WSVN.

Mediaite Historical Society Presents: Rick Sanchez Mourns Lima The Zebra With Salsa Music

Picture 1 oldies but goodies

A long, long time ago, in March 2010, CNN used to air a program they called Rick’s List, hosted by Rick Sanchez, whose career was slightly completely derailed by a prickly appearance on the radio. That was a shame, since Rick’s List routinely provided the sort of pop culture “news you can use” infotainment that media blogger dreams are made of, like this celebration of the life and times of Lima the Zebra.

This Exists: Rick Sanchez Still On CNN–In The Lobby

Picture 18

As we saw last week with MSNBC, cable news execs can move very fast when it comes to talent changes. In an instant, a guy like Keith Olbermann‘s saying goodbye, and the lineup is being changed and distributed. Problem is, it takes a lot longer to get the star’s image off all the various places where a network plasters it.

That’s why Friday night, in the hour after Olbermann signed off, MSNBC was still running the dramatic “Lean Forward” promo featuring Olbermann writing one of his Special Comment segments. And just today, it was noted that the network’s graphics were still advising viewers as last as Monday to watch Countdown at 8 p.m.

Ex-CNN Anchor Rick Sanchez Has “Friends,” Would Very Much Like New Gig In 2011

rick-sanchez-01

Rick’s friends have had it, and they’re doing something about it. Bottom line: they want Rick Sanchez back on TV, like yesterday.

Sanchez, host of the now-gone CNN daytime show Rick’s List, lost his gig after calling Jon Stewart a “bigot” and suggesting that Jews control the media. Or, as Sanchez summed it all up to Mediaite last October, “I got greedy and I got mad and I got in trouble.”

Rick Sanchez’s Poignant Last Behind The Scenes Video Before Fateful Interview

sanchez video

Here’s something for the morbid out there. During his brief time as the host of Rick’s List, Rick Sanchez released a series of behind the scenes videos on Twitter that showed he and his team putting together the program. The last video, put together hours before the fateful interview that caused him to get fired, is a poignant reminder that, at the bottom of all of this, is the sad story of a man who said some stupid things and lost a job he clearly loved.

Rick Sanchez Names MSNBC, Olbermann, Maddow To “List U Don’t Want 2 Be On”

sanchez_9-30 video

On the heels of John King‘s MSNBC/FNC related segment last night, his colleague Rick Sanchez threw MSNBC on “The List U Don’t Want 2 Be On” today.

After reading Bill Burton‘s quote about MSNBC, Sanchez launched into his monologue about how he’s happy he’s not a White House friend or foe.

Abbie Boudreau Reveals Stunning Details of Failed James O’Keefe Prank

boudreau video

CNN correspondent Abbie Boudreau was interviewed by Rick Sanchez this afternoon regarding the now-dominant story of ACORN pimp James O’Keefe‘s attempt to lure her onto a boat “filled with sexually explicit props and then record the session,” a “prank” that even conservative media figure Brent Bozell called an “attempted assault.”

Everyone “Shut Up” And Get Out Of Rick Sanchez’s Way

sanchez_8-23 video

CNN’s Rick Sanchez has a new slogan, that he revealed on Twitter: “Shut up and watch TV!”

In a TwitVid today, you see his process for preparing to report on the Philippines hostage story. It’s very intense.

NBC’s Nightly News Led With Same Story Olbermann Found “Inexplicable” On CNN

lester_holt video

Last night, Countdown host Keith Olbermann criticized CNN’s Rick Sanchez mid-broadcast for opening his show with the Connecticut workplace shooting story. Olbermann opened with the Prop 8 ruling, and tweeted out “I happen to like Rick Sanchez, I worked with him. But how CNN could begin with the Connecticut shooting, bad as it was, is inexplicable.” Turns out that in a nearby studio in the same building, NBC News’ flagship program Nightly News also inexplicably led with the very same story.

Keith Olbermann Slams “Inexplicable” Way Rick Sanchez Started His Show Last Night

sanchez_8-5

Keith Olbermann kicked off Countdown on MSNBC last night with a segment about the anti-Prop 8 ruling in California, while CNN’s Rick Sanchez started Rick’s List at 8pmET discussing the latest in the Connecticut workplace shooting.

This was a decision Olbermann didn’t understand – which he expressed, on Twitter, while his show was still on air.

Rick Sanchez Jumps Into The Primetime Boxing Match By Going After Goldline

Sanchez Weiner video

On CNN’s Rick’s List tonight, Rick Sanchez invited on Congressman Anthony Weiner to discuss his continuing crusade against Goldline and their celebrity endorsers like Glenn Beck. Sanchez explained to his viewers that he was doing the segment because some of them may be “confused” by what their hearing about gold. One can’t help but wonder if the real reason though, was to try to stake out some territory in the fight against his new primetime rivals.

sanchez_7-27 video

CNN’s Rick Sanchez hosts Rick’s List from 3-5pmET weekdays on CNN and now is hosting an 8pmET prime time version of the program.

But is that really enough Rick Sanchez? For those who say ‘no’, Sanchez also puts out a couple minutes of TwitVid’s nearly every day as well.

Rick Sanchez: “Is [Sharron] Angle The Greatest Thing That Ever Happened To Harry Reid?”

sanchez_7-15 video

He announced the news today on Rick’s List.

Rick Sanchez Marvels At The ‘Reaganesque’ Style Of Sarah Palin’s ‘Mama Grizzlies’ Ad

Picture 8 video

It was only released yesterday, but Sarah Palin‘s “Mama Grizzlies” ad can already count one convert to the Palin Revolution: CNN’s Rick Sanchez, whose starry, flabbergasted awe at the video this afternoon sounded more like a recreation of “Double-Rainbow Guy” than a political analysis. That’s because the ad didn’t quite convert Sanchez to conservatism– he didn’t even seem to notice the political content of the ad. But have you seen the lighting?

Sen. Lindsey Graham Supports Obama While Slamming McChrystal And Staff

Graham_McChrystal_comment video

Now that President Obama has decided to accept General McChrystal‘s resignation (replacing him in command with General David Petraeus), the political fallout from this entire story is starting to reveal itself. And today’s emotional comment by Senator Lindsay Graham (R – SC) might be an indication that some on the right see this story as transcending traditional political tropes.

CNN’s Rick Sanchez Interviews Rolling Stone‘s Michael Hastings

hastings_on_cnn video

It’s beginning to look more likely that General Stanley McChrystal will have a hard time surviving the political blowback from his candid Rolling Stone interview that was so harshly critical of the Obama administration. But what’s more surprising than a decorated military official stepping down due to a lack of discipline with a Rolling Stone writer? That CNN’s Rick Sanchez was the first to interview Michael Hastings, the investigative journalist whose article has likely made an enormous impact on the Afghanistan War.

Rick Sanchez Corrects President Obama’s Twitter Spelling

sanchez_obama_tweet video

Earlier today we wrote about the Jon Stewart‘s aggressive critique of President Obama’s “complicated” response to the BP oil spill, and now we have another news anchor pointing out a presidential error. Though this time it’s CNN’s Rick Sanchez who corrected a misspelled word on the Presidential Twitter feed. Okay – maybe there is nothing similar about the two examples but its an odd video clip nonetheless.

Rick Sanchez Evokes Keith Olbermann In Stab Against Glenn Beck’s Malia Mockery

Picture 1 video

The bad blood between Glenn Beck and Rick Sanchez is nothing new and, given their fiery personalities, probably to be expected. But today, on Rick’s “List U Don’t Want 2 Be On,” his outrage toward Beck for making fun of Malia Obama (which Beck has apologized for) took another, familiar form, when Sanchez pointed out he thought Beck did the same thing he apologized for in the apology. Hm, where have we heard that before?

CNN’s Erick Erickson: Rand Paul Is What Happens When “Joe The Butcher” Runs For Office

Picture 2 video

The fallout from Rand Paul’s Civil Rights Act PR disaster keeps pouring down the cable news wires, and conservative pundits are being asked to explain what was going through Paul’s mind during that fateful interview with Rachel Maddow. Yesterday, Rick Sanchez asked RedState.com editor and CNN contributor Erick Erickson that very question, and Erickson remixed a 2008 meme to explain why people like Paul say the darnedest things: that’s what you get when Joe the Butcher runs for office.

CNN’s Rick Sanchez: “Up Next…Ad Lib…A Tease” (Seriously)

sanchez_5-4 wow

CNN’s Rick Sanchez channeled Ron Burgundy this afternoon.

No, he didn’t wrestle a bear. Or play the jazz flute. But he did read exactly what was on his teleprompter – to hilarious results.

Rick Sanchez Previews The New CNN-Atlanta HD Studio

Picture 1 video

Having been one of the first major cable news personalities to hop onto the Twitter bandwagon, it should come as no surprise that Rick Sanchez sent a special treat to his followers yesterday: a sneak preview of the new set of his show, Rick’s List.

Rick Sanchez, Envy Of Many Hairless Men, Reveals His Secret Bald Spot

Picture 3 video

Yesterday I praised Rick Sanchez for making a serious contribution to cable news by calling out a Tea Party leader who had made racist statements about Latin Americans and then blamed his racism on the Bee Gees. Today he follows up that performance by showing off his bald spot on air.

Bush Administration Catches Friendly Fire From Republican Darrell Issa

Picture 3 video

Republican Congressman Darrell Issa is still not taking Former Bush speechwriter David Frum seriously. He went on CNN’s Rick’s List earlier today to clarify comments he made to the Huffington Post yesterday suggesting that Frum’s advice to Republicans should be completely disregarded because of his former employer. And by clarify, we mean reinforce.

CNN Highlights Anti-Israel Tweets During Rick Sanchez Show

sanchez_3-17 video

CNN’s Rick Sanchez was an early Twitter adapter, and his new show Rick’s List is based around the growing social media platform.

But yesterday’s program highlighted the danger of Twitter unfiltered – some questionable anti-Israel tweets were highlighted in the lower third during a segment about the conflict in the Middle East.
