In celebration of Gay Pride Month and in honor of this important anniversary, Mediaite contributor Robert Newman arranged a series of magazine covers – each “featuring an artist, personality, historical event, or publication of significance in gay history” – and released one per day throughout the month of June on his Newmanology facebook page. Here are some of the highlights from the collection:

April 4 is Major League Baseball’s opening day, with the World Champion New York Yankees playing the always dangerous Boston Red Sox at 8p in Fenway Park. The New York Mets open the following day, with a home game against the Florida Marlins. On Sunday the NCAA announced the 65 teams that will play for college basketball’s championship, affording some teams the opportunity of a lifetime while bitterly disappointing others. In recent years, to celebrate the occasion of one of America’s most beloved sporting events, Sports Illustrated has produced annual March-Madness-themed covers that cram in pictures of at least one person from every team in the tournament. A beautifully-designed Valentine’s Day cover used to be an annual event for many magazines, but today, Valentine’s Day has almost disappeared from the newsstands – except for the New Yorker. Last week Fortune magazine picked Apple’s Steve Jobs as the CEO of the decade, and ran this cool cover. Jobs has been the go-to tech dude for business mags and newsweeklies for over 20 years, and it got us thinking about all the covers that he has appeared on. Feast your eyes on these beauties!

Today marks the 20th anniversary of the fall of the Berlin Wall, an event that represented a very specific period of media coverage. The Wall holds an iconic place in photographs and in the magazines of the mid-20th century, and inside we’ve collected a few of the defining magazine covers of the era, from the Berlin Wall’s beginnings in 1961 to its fall in 1989.

BusinessWeek started publishing in 1929. Its covers have had many variations over the years, including, most notably, the many years when it ran a Business Indicator thermometer along the side. Thanks to current BW art director Andrew Horton, we’ve got a distinguished collection of covers.
