On Thursday’s Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough defended his criticism of Newt Gingrich from angry tweets coming from angry pro-Gingrich Twitterers, and gave a frank observation that the former Speaker of the House was not fit to be president. “Last night I went on Twitter at the end of the day, just for a few minutes, and a lot of anger, outrage from Newt supporters. And they kept saying: why do you hate Newt? Why is it so personal? I don’t hate Newt. I don’t really, I never even got to know Newt.

“Time for the traditional, true story of Thanksgiving,” Rush Limbaugh announced. “Written by me!” In other words: TIME FOR A MOTHERF$%#ING TREAT!

Limbaugh recounted the story of religious separatists who journeyed to the New World in search of the freedom to worship as they saw fit without fear of persecution. They faced many challenges and hardships in their new home, but eventually benefited from agricultural practices shared by local Indians.

Senator Jim DeMint paid a visit to On The Record last night, and had some pretty strong words for President Barack Obama. In fact, he told host Greta Van Susteren that the President is practicing “venture socialism,” and offered to work with him on some alternatives for creating jobs and pumping energy into the economy.

Last Friday, Bill Maher dedicated his “New Rules” segment to fighting socialism’s status as a four-letter word in America. For some who have had hands-on experience with socialist states, this was probably a rather naive stance. But self-avowed socialist Lawrence O’Donnell replayed the segment as a “guest Rewrite,” explaining that he was not a socialist exclusively (perhaps unlike Maher’s definition), but found it bizarre that many refused to accept that all governments were “mixes” of socialism and capitalism.

Last night, a monologue on the virtues of socialism and the shame of not openly embracing it was received with hearty applause, exuberant cheers and the kind of laughter so loud it makes you wonder if its source producing it at gunpoint. I wish I could tell you it’s from Hugo Chavez‘s weekly variety hour Aló, Presidente. It’s not. It’s Bill Maher‘s “New Rules” segment, where he attempts to convince Americans they’re actually really into this socialism thing, whether they know it or not.

Lawrence O’Donnell dedicated his “Rewrite” segment tonight to socialism– no, not to extolling its virtues per se, but to teaching Republican candidates what his definition of socialism is and how, no matter how hard they try, Tim Pawlenty and Rep. Michele Bachmann are socialists if they are eager to rake in farm subsidies to keep Minnesota agriculture afloat. But in calling said subsidies “the worst kind of socialism,” O’Donnell reveals he has no idea what socialism is, either.

Liberal activist and filmmaker Michael Moore sure knows how to stir the pot. Yesterday in response to interviewer Laura Flanders asking Moore what should Republican Governor Walker do to address the state of Wisconsin’s budget deficit, Moore didn’t hold back with what he thought should be a simple solution: it’s time to share the wealth.

During President Obama’s January State of the Union address, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA 10) tweeted “Mr. President, you don’t believe in the Constitution. You believe in socialism.”

Broun became embroiled in another controversy when, at a Tuesday town hall meeting, he was asked “who is going to shoot Obama?” and responded with stunning nonchalance.

President Obama spoke to the Chamber of Commerce earlier today, and encouraged the business community to work with him towards creating more opportunities for the middle class, while also arguing that some common sense regulations often do make sense in order to safeguard the economy. His speech today at the Chamber marked a fresh start for Obama, who in the past often viewed the Chamber as an opponent of many of his domestic policy goals.

During Tuesday night’s State of the Union address, Rep. Paul Broun (R-GA 10) became the closest thing to a “You lie!” moment, tweeting during the address “Mr. President, you don’t believe in the Constitution. Congresswoman Michele Bachmann always knows how to deliver an eye-catching sound bite and today on the floor of the House of Representatives she did not disappoint by declaring that “Obamacare as we know it is the crown jewel of socialism – it is socialized medicine.” Bachmann also attempted to argue that taking steps towards repeal is not merely a symbolic act.

No one suggested debating Sean Hannity would be easy or intellectually stimulating, but it at least seems fun as Hannity guest Imogen Lloyd Webber, political commentator and daughter of famous composer Andrew Lloyd Webber, found out last night. First Hannity read off a litany of generic complaints with the British healthcare system, all of which was dismissed pretty convincingly by Webber’s more concrete statistic that “life expectancy is longer in the UK than [in the US].” From there the two could not agree on facts or even on what issue they were going to debate, which led to an exhausted Webber making a visibly disgruntled face to Hannity’s amusement.

It seems that an excess of time zone-shifting may have addled President Obama’s brain after his latest trip to Lisbon. On Twitter, reporters Mark Knoller of CBS and Ed Henry of CNN both wrote that as Air Force One was flying back to Washington on Friday, Obama stopped by the press cabin and joked about having the plane stop in South America so that he could pay a visit to Hugo Chavez.

Here’s something you won’t see every day: A man declaring himself an avowed socialist and calling for revolution, a la Latin America, after calling for a revolt against “racist white people”– on Fox News. The man is Santee High School teacher Ron Gochez, and he is an Arizona schoolteacher accused of inciting armed rebellion. As a response to the bad press, Fox News’ Griff Jenkins gave him an extensive interview to clear up his name and ideology.

These days it seems like you can’t go anywhere without hearing people claim that President Obama is a socialist. Hell, even former SNL stars are saying it in song (beware, that video makes It’s Pat seem entertaining). But, is he? While one side of the argument just takes it as a given that he is and the other just takes it as a given that he isn’t, no one seems to be that knowledgeable of the facts. Well, the good folks at CNN have found some people who are: actual socialists.

Forgotten former New York mayor and failed non-candidate to every possible public office in New York State (and President) Rudy Giuliani, KBE appeared on Fox and Friends this morning to analyze the passing of the Democrats’ health care bill. For what it’s worth, he thinks the bill will be, at the very least, a “disaster for New York.” Also, what is up with all these terrorists living such great lives in Gitmo, and other concerns from 2003.

When Fox’s Geraldo Rivera tried to veer Rev. Al Sharpton into using the S-word to describe the passing of the health care bill last night, the activist didn’t shy away from using the label facetiously to make his point. If this is socialism, “than the American public overwhelmingly voted for socialism when they voted for Barack Obama,” Sharpton shot back. We know how this sounds out of context, so maybe it’s better if you just watched the clip for yourself.

It seems that when Sarah Palin criticized the current socialized Canadian health care system last fall, she knew what she was talking about. Palin, who during her attack on the similar system proposed in the United States coined the term “death panels,” admitted to a crowd of supporters in Calgary, Alberta that in her youth she and her family would sneak into Canada from their remote Alaskan town for health care.

A rather important online debate is beginning to brew over what was said (or not said) on Hannity last night. And no, this debate isn’t over the definitions of socialism or marxism, nor is it over reconciliation versus a super-majority. People are beginning to weigh on what exactly delightfully curmudgeonly guest Bob Beckel said in response to a question from Sean Hannity. “Are you guys tired of this ____?” Watch the video after the jump, and weigh-in on what you hear.

Speaking of conservative in-fighting: tonight Bill O’Reilly responded to the gauntlet thrown by Rush Limbaugh on the conservative pundit’s radio show Friday, in which Limbaugh did an impression of The Factor host, saying “We need to give socialism a fair shake…we here at The Factor are going to give socialism, even communism a fair shake!” Harsh words, Rush. See O’Reilly’s surprising response is below.

“Hyper-partisan, painfully ignorant, pathologically dishonest, chronically unethical, intellectually unconscious, and jaw-droppingly stupid.” Yes, once in a while these words apply uncannily to the radical liberals over at Daily Kos, but today, they’re proof of why the blog commands so much influence in the political sphere despite their occasional flubs.

Watching a few hours of Fox News these days amounts to a non-stop infomercial opposing the Obama Administration’s effort to reform Health Care. While there is always room for a healthy debate on the issues, please don’t look to FNC for a measured discourse – they rarely, if ever, present a constructive solution to the current health care problems (though there is the occasional admission that there is need for reform.) No single entity seems more entrenched in the opposition to the health care reform than Fox News.

Each week, we’ll be stamping our passport in The Fox Nation, checking out the goings on over on the Fox News-run community/opinion site. The storylines may not exactly be unpredictable, but it doesn’t make it any less entertaining. What’s happening today in the Nation? A clear choice: are you a fan of socialism…or freedom?
