On the heels (but not too closely on the heels) of Monday’s call by GLAAD that CNN analyst Roland Martin be fired for tweets he made during Sunday’s Super Bowl, the network has announced that Martin has been suspended. Martin initially explained the tweets, which GLAAD said encouraged violence against gay people, as tweaking soccer fans, but the network disagrees. In a statement released minutes ago, CNN says “Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive.

Poor Maria Menounos. Not only are her eyes seared by Mario Lopez‘s blinding smile on a nearly daily basis, but she also lost a Super Bowl bet. And, somehow, that meant standing in the middle of Times Square in a bikini.

Apparently, that’s a claim that can be challenged, says Ford.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has called out columnist and CNN contributor Roland Martin for a Tweet he made during last night’s Super Bowl.

It’s the day after Super Bowl Sunday, so the media is busy wringing every last drop of hype out of its annual High Holy Day, dissecting ads, gasping at MIA‘s middle finger and Madonna‘s near-faceplant, and this: Gisele Bundchen, wife of losing Patriots QB Tom Brady, was caught on tape saying, through a barrage of Giants fans’ heckling, that “My husband cannot f**king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time!”

In a two-minute spot for Chrysler airing at halftime of the Super Bowl, actor Clint Eastwood spoke on behalf of Detroit and the American motor industry. “It’s halftime in America too,” Eastwood said, in an ad similar to Eminem’s Lose Yourself ad for GM last year. “People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback.”

Those of you who didn’t use Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance as an excuse to go out and buy another bag of Extreme Buffalo Chili Cheesesteak Pizza Doritos might have noticed that singer M.I.A. — one of the 812 performers who joined Madonna onstage for her medley — saw it fit to give viewers the middle finger during her performance.

President Obama’s traditional Super Bowl interview has come and gone, leaving barely two hours before the nation takes a forced respite from politics to watch the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots in what is growing to be a rivalry of several chapters. The President sat down with Matt Lauer this year in the White House and chatted about the likelihood of a good game tonight, but also answered questions about tension between Israel and Iran and made a pitch for why he deserves a second term.

People should be expecting a surprising number of political ads during the Super Bowl tonight. And one of them was played on today’s Meet the Press, when host David Gregory asked New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg about a gun control ad he made with Thomas Menino. In the ad, Bloomberg and Menino admit they don’t agree on much (including which team to back in tonight’s game), but they do see eye-to-eye on the issue of gun safety.

ARE YOU READY FOR SOME POLITICS? Today’s Super Bowl is set to be a pretty intense one between the Giants and the Patriots, but let’s face it, we’re also tuning in for the ads. And according to POLITICO, tonight we are going to be bombarded by a storm of political ads. One of the latest issues to become a political football (ba dum tsss) has been abortion, given the widespread controversy this week over Planned Parenthood and the Komen Foundation. And now the FCC has ruled that one station has the right to refuse to air an anti-abortion ad during tonight’s game.

In a revelation that will surprise no one who can recall a time (last month) when he was talked about on cable news at least once an hour, football star Tim Tebow tells the Golf Channel that running for office may be in his future. In an interview with the network’s Dave Feherty, Tebow notes that “if it’s something I care about, possibly” he could see himself as a politician.

Tim Tebow is a football player very well-known for his Christian beliefs. And recently, he has begun to get some flack in the media for silent prayers after scoring a touchdown and for other public displays of his faith. You’ll recall that he filmed an ad for Focus on the Family that took a very powerful stand against abortion that aired during the Super Bowl. On Reliable Sources today, Howard Kurtz examined media coverage of Tebow and how much of it was being influenced by religion as opposed to sports.

First Lady Michelle Obama appeared with Matt Lauer on The Today Show and addressed a wide range of issues from the situation in Egypt, to her Super Bowl Party menu to her husband’s successful effort to quit smoking. While she deftly demurred on Egypt saying “I’m not going to comment on his policy decisions,” she did discuss the “hate” towards her husband brought up in Bill O’Reilly in a pre-Super Bowl interview with the president.

As a recovering Countdown addict, I’ve found the blustery charms of fire-breather Ed Schultz growing on me.

On Monday night’s episode, Schultz demonstrated primo Fox-bashing form by laying Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem butchery at the network’s feet, and made me do a double-take by declaring, “There might not be a next Super Bowl!”
