Breaking: Roland Martin Suspended By CNN For Offensive Super Bowl Tweets
On the heels (but not too closely on the heels) of Monday’s call by GLAAD that CNN analyst Roland Martin be fired for tweets he made during Sunday’s Super Bowl, the network has announced that Martin has been suspended. Martin initially explained the tweets, which GLAAD said encouraged violence against gay people, as tweaking soccer fans, but the network disagrees. In a statement released minutes ago, CNN says “Roland Martin’s tweets were regrettable and offensive.
Ice Cold: Maria Menounos Loses Super Bowl Bet, Wears Only A Bikini In Times Square
Poor Maria Menounos. Not only are her eyes seared by Mario Lopez‘s blinding smile on a nearly daily basis, but she also lost a Super Bowl bet. And, somehow, that meant standing in the middle of Times Square in a bikini.
Dana Perino Outraged That M.I.A., ‘Not Even An American,’ Performed At Super Bowl
It is the biggest secular holiday of the year, so naturally much of today’s The Five revolved around last night’s Super Bowl events. The crew particularly stopped on the first case of indecent conduct during the Halftime Show since Janet Jackson exposed her breast to America: British/Sri Lankan rapper M.I.A. giving the finger to the camera, as she does in the music video for the song being performed, “Give Me All Your Lovin’.” Most found it vulgar on its face, but Dana Perino objected not to the gesture but to M.I.A.’s presence at all: why would Madonna perform with a rapper who was “not even an American?”
Clint Eastwood: ‘I’m Not Politically Affiliated With Obama’, If He Wants To ‘Run With The Spirit Of That Ad, Go For It’
In the wake of his 2-minute commercial for Chrysler during yesterday’s Super Bowl, Clint Eastwood has come under fire from conservatives accusing him of ostensibly making a campaign ad for President Obama.
Silvera-D’oh! Ford Challenges Claims In Chevy’s Post-Apocalyptic Super Bowl Ad
While Clint Eastwood‘s stirring “Halftime In America” ad for General Motors has been the feel-good success story of the annual Super Bowl Look-At-Me Advertising Pageant (and Football Game)™, another car commercial is engendering more negative feelings. Chevrolet‘s post-Mayan Apocalypse entry “amusingly” posits that drivers of Chevy pickups stand a better chance of surviving such a catastrophe than Ford customers. Apparently, that’s a claim that can be challenged, says Ford.
GLAAD Demands CNN Fire Roland Martin Over David Beckham Tweet
The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) has called out columnist and CNN contributor Roland Martin for a Tweet he made during last night’s Super Bowl.
Tom Brady’s Wife Caught Cursing, Blaming Patriots Receivers For Super Bowl Loss
It’s the day after Super Bowl Sunday, so the media is busy wringing every last drop of hype out of its annual High Holy Day, dissecting ads, gasping at MIA‘s middle finger and Madonna‘s near-faceplant, and this: Gisele Bundchen, wife of losing Patriots QB Tom Brady, was caught on tape saying, through a barrage of Giants fans’ heckling, that “My husband cannot f**king throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time!”
Clint Eastwood Narrates ‘Halftime In America’ Super Bowl Ad
In a two-minute spot for Chrysler airing at halftime of the Super Bowl, actor Clint Eastwood spoke on behalf of Detroit and the American motor industry. “It’s halftime in America too,” Eastwood said, in an ad similar to Eminem’s Lose Yourself ad for GM last year. “People are out of work and they’re hurting. And they’re all wondering what they’re going to do to make a comeback.”
Gretchen Carlson Reacts To M.I.A. Giving The Finger: ‘Get A Life’
Those of you who didn’t use Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance as an excuse to go out and buy another bag of Extreme Buffalo Chili Cheesesteak Pizza Doritos might have noticed that singer M.I.A. — one of the 812 performers who joined Madonna onstage for her medley — saw it fit to give viewers the middle finger during her performance.
Was Rush Limbaugh Caught Picking His Nose At The Super Bowl? You Decide
An eagle-eyed Super Bowl viewer caught radio talk show host Rush Limbaugh allegedly mining for gold in New England Patriot’s Robert Kraft‘s luxury box during Sunday’s game.
Madonna Slips While Performing Hit Song “Music” During Super Bowl Halftime
There are so many different aspects of Madonna’s Super Bowl halftime performance that make it noteworthy: The fact that she looks as good in her 50′s as she did in her 20′s performing the same songs…
President Obama’s Super Bowl Interview With Matt Lauer: Jobs, Israel, And Tom Brady Posters
President Obama’s traditional Super Bowl interview has come and gone, leaving barely two hours before the nation takes a forced respite from politics to watch the New York Giants take on the New England Patriots in what is growing to be a rivalry of several chapters. The President sat down with Matt Lauer this year in the White House and chatted about the likelihood of a good game tonight, but also answered questions about tension between Israel and Iran and made a pitch for why he deserves a second term.
NBC Shows Come Together To Sing Epic Super Bowl Promo ‘Brotherhood Of Man’
It’s no secret that a number of us here at Mediaite have professed our love for NBC’s thursday night comedy block (which is currently suffering from a lack of Community), so naturally, the video below is chock-full of so many awesome people, places, and things, there are lit’rally (read in Rob Lowe‘s voice) no words to describe it.

Well, get out the chips and buffalo wings, find the most comfortable chair in your house, get relaxed, and enjoy watching the (Giants/Patriots) totally destroy the (Patriots/Giants)! Mayor Bloomberg: You’d Think Giffords Shooting Would Have Started National Dialogue On Gun Control
People should be expecting a surprising number of political ads during the Super Bowl tonight. And one of them was played on today’s Meet the Press, when host David Gregory asked New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg about a gun control ad he made with Thomas Menino. In the ad, Bloomberg and Menino admit they don’t agree on much (including which team to back in tonight’s game), but they do see eye-to-eye on the issue of gun safety.
FCC Rules Chicago TV Station Can Refuse To Air Anti-Abortion Super Bowl Ad
ARE YOU READY FOR SOME POLITICS? Today’s Super Bowl is set to be a pretty intense one between the Giants and the Patriots, but let’s face it, we’re also tuning in for the ads. And according to POLITICO, tonight we are going to be bombarded by a storm of political ads. One of the latest issues to become a political football (ba dum tsss) has been abortion, given the widespread controversy this week over Planned Parenthood and the Komen Foundation. And now the FCC has ruled that one station has the right to refuse to air an anti-abortion ad during tonight’s game.
Tim Tebow: Running For Office ‘Could Be Something In My Future’
In a revelation that will surprise no one who can recall a time (last month) when he was talked about on cable news at least once an hour, football star Tim Tebow tells the Golf Channel that running for office may be in his future. In an interview with the network’s Dave Feherty, Tebow notes that “if it’s something I care about, possibly” he could see himself as a politician.
CNN’s Howard Kurtz: Is Media Coverage Of Tim Tebow Too Focused On Religion?
Tim Tebow is a football player very well-known for his Christian beliefs. And recently, he has begun to get some flack in the media for silent prayers after scoring a touchdown and for other public displays of his faith. You’ll recall that he filmed an ad for Focus on the Family that took a very powerful stand against abortion that aired during the Super Bowl. On Reliable Sources today, Howard Kurtz examined media coverage of Tebow and how much of it was being influenced by religion as opposed to sports.
Michelle Obama Addresses Those Who ‘Hate’ The President With Matt Lauer
First Lady Michelle Obama appeared with Matt Lauer on The Today Show and addressed a wide range of issues from the situation in Egypt, to her Super Bowl Party menu to her husband’s successful effort to quit smoking. While she deftly demurred on Egypt saying “I’m not going to comment on his policy decisions,” she did discuss the “hate” towards her husband brought up in Bill O’Reilly in a pre-Super Bowl interview with the president.
Ed Schultz Blames Fox for Anthem Flub, Declares ‘There Might Not Be a Next Super Bowl’
As a recovering Countdown addict, I’ve found the blustery charms of fire-breather Ed Schultz growing on me.
On Monday night’s episode, Schultz demonstrated primo Fox-bashing form by laying Christina Aguilera’s National Anthem butchery at the network’s feet, and made me do a double-take by declaring, “There might not be a next Super Bowl!”
Hannity’s “Great American Panel” Recaps Super Bowl Ads, Balks At White House Tailgate Menu
Super Bowl Sunday may be the only time of the year where the media gets to dedicate significant air time to analyzing advertisements. Sean Hannity‘s Great American Panel took a look at their favorite Super Bowl ads and the , but not before criticizing the White House Super Bowl Party’s dinner menu for not serving enough arugula.
Joan Rivers ‘Feels Sorry’ For Obama But Blasts His ‘Stupid Mistakes’ On MSNBC
Who would have thought that the harshest critic of the Obama administration on MSNBC lately would be Joan Rivers? The entertainment icon was on The Last Word tonight to talk about her recent reemergence during the Super Bowl but took a detour to evaluate the President, and Rivers is not happy– though at least, apparently, sees the President himself as an object of pity.
Bill O’Reilly Invites Criticism Of Fox News In Overtime Interview With Obama
President Barack Obama‘s lively interview with Bill O’Reilly yesterday evening challenged him to answer many questions on some of the biggest issues on the minds of Americans– the crisis in Egypt, the domestic economic situation, and health care reform paramount in their chat. As promised, O’Reilly aired the half of the interview saved for Fox News tonight, and one thing’s for sure– from a media junkie’s perspective, he saved the best for last.
Super Bowl Super Blowhards
While it’s true sports analogies are cheap, Super Bowl 45 (pardon me: XLV) is irresistible as a metaphor for American politics even though it’s anything but cheap.
To a large degree it is another bauble for the charmed lives of the obscenely wealthy, who lord over the masses below in their owners’ boxes of luxury. They are handed anything they want. Just look at Alex Rodriguez and Cameron “Feedy Bird” Diaz as so many millions already have
Glenn Beck “Offended” That Super Bowl Players Didn’t Respect The National Anthem
Last night, during one of the worst three (out of three) musical performances at the Super Bowl, Christina Aguilera flubbed a few of the lines in the National Anthem. However, she wasn’t the only one insulting our nation during that song. Apparently a few of the football players weren’t showing enough deference to “The Star-Spangled Banner”. Fortunatley, Glenn Beck is here to take them to task.
